Bon Aire section and other exterior changes to Hotel Breakers

I'm up for a full bar with a large craft beer selection IMO.

I've never heard of a hotel that doesn't let you in or use the restaurant or bar unless you were a guest. I don't see why you find it odd that anyone can enter the Breakers or the resort area. I really doubt a nightclub being mobbed by park goers is an issue. And if it is, they would simply make it bigger, why throw away business?

Where did I say I thought it was odd? And a venue geared toward attracting people to stay at a resort which then becomes inaccessible due to folks visiting the park staying well beyond closing is precisely how and why it could get mobbed.

Don't miss my point here. The idea has very real merit and what I'm focused on relates to how it would work in practical terms. I think they want the resorts to have clear value to those paying the prices to stay in them. They also don't want pricey venues to underachieve because they fail to leverage all the possible patrons they can get. Yet the current open, friendly and almost communal level of access all people coming to Cedar Point enjoy could find itself at the start of a slippery slope that changes it forever.

A nightclub that stays open until 2 a.m. creates new and slightly different issues to be addressed. Mostly in how park visitors are managed, not the hotel guests.

That said, I'm sure they can figure something out that works well overall. They key is making sure you don't have rouge visitors trying to sneak into the park.

As for locations, I keep coming back to the Grand Pavilion. Near to the Breakers complex, also open to the park at large.

I can't see a nightclub fitting in with the historic theme of Breakers. That'd be like a nightclub opening up in the basement of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac*.

* He write fully confident that there is no nightclub in the basement of the Grand Hotel, but 10-1 it'll turn out there is indeed a nightclub in the basement of the Grand Hotel.

I have wondered why they don't utilize Bubbles bar as a gauge for how much of a demand there is for a nightclub. Its already built, add an entrance on the trail side, promote it as a nightclub with a DJ, cue the music with Luminosity to start the night.

-Low risk on investment.
-Low risk of annoying hotel guests with club noise in a hotel.
-Easier to manage people coming and going, especially in the hotel hallways, make them show room key to access hotel.
-They could always expand if it's successful.

just my two cents

I'm hearing a lot of opinions from a lot of people who have clearly never tried to get a drink at Friday's on an evening in July.

The only historical part of the hotel is the center rotunda section. I don't see how a night club would ruin the atmosphere. I sometimes thought the Breakwater Cafe would make a nice "after park hours" venue.

I haven't, can't get a bank loan that late at night.

But which direction are you going with that? That you can't get in because it is crowded, or that it is easy because nobody is there?

I'm not convinced that a night club in any way aligns with the type of guests staying at CP resorts, nor that that's the type of guests CP resorts want to attract.

Now, a couple nice bars are a different story, in my opinion.

A nightclub wouldn't interest me at all, but something like Mizner's at the Grand Floridian? With a view of Lake Erie and the beach. That would be delightful.

I never thought of the Breakwater Café as a nightclub. That would be a perfect spot. Nice view, late night dinner and drinks, someone at the piano or a small combo. Great idea Kylepark!

It doesn't have to be a night club persay, just some place open bar hours. I'm thinking of one of the pubs I went to in England where it was pretty much a family type establishment during the day and divided into two halves at night time:

One half had the historic wooden bar and the tables and was for the more laid back set, divided by the hallway to the hotel section, with the other half being for the younger folks with the darker lighting, more contemporary bar, and dance area. It's doable.

A lot of times though, I feel like people that have never actually been to a nightclub have this skewed image of what actually goes on at a nightclub compared to any other bar.

Breakwater Café? A nightclub? Sorry, I guess it sounds like a fun idea, but I just couldn't resist laughing at that. I guess this is what happens when we have nothing about 2015 to talk about. haha

BC is a great place for breakfast (especially now that I think it comes free with a night's stay at Sandcastle Suites) so I would hate to see anything about it change.

What advantage would a nightclub have when there is already Luminosity? From what I've noticed since Luminosity's debut, most of you (on PointBuzz) just complain about it anyway.

Also, why does everyone want more places that serve alcohol? To be honest, I don't think Cedar Point has never had as many places to get booze as it does in these most recent years (at least in my time).

That's not a night club, at least as far as I've ever heard anyone define it. That sounds like a bar.

I've been to plenty of night clubs, in various regions of the US (Detroit, Twin Cities, San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose). They all have a similar vibe - single, college-aged and young professional clientele, high-energy dance music played by a DJ, etc. I just don't see how that fits at an amusement park resort in the Midwest that's trying to appeal to families.

And I've also spent probably far too much time in contemporary bars in those and other areas. They're simply a totally different atmosphere.

Because when I'm bored of coasters and rides, or after the park is closed, I want something to do. And perhaps it makes me a heathen (it doesn't), but when I'm on vacation, I usually want to drink. We end up spending money at Thirsty Pony (or wherever) that should really be ending up in CF's pocket.

Yeah, an actual Dance Club on the property is not something I would see myself going to very often. What I would love to see is something leveraging the beach and lake front location. Build a tiki bar type place right on the beach with food, drinks and bring in some entertainment every afternoon and night to play some music. Have beach access from the bar and set the mood with the same type of torch lights and fire pits on the beach that they had for Beach Blast. I guess kind of like a Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville right on the beach. That would be a place I would go to often.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I could also go for a whoopee spot, where the gin is cold but the piano's hot.

You know, just a noisy hall where there's a nightly brawl....

:)

Pete, you keep repeating that idea and I'll keep echoing it; and for only 10% of the cost of TTD, such a bargain.

Girl: "l want to ride that yellow one again... Twisted Wicker"
Me: "It's a roller coaster, not a broken clothes hamper."

Your idea Pete, it's what makes sense. I'm 100% on board with that idea.

Pete proposes a perfect place. I'd go there.

I checked it out last month in Pigeon Forge, TN. Very nice. Now if we can just one built on CP's property, haha.

Yes, perfect. And the CP version can be a single level that would look great on the beach.
