Am I the only person who thinks at least75% of B&Ms to stand for Boring & monotonous? The only styles I really enjoy are their inverts (Raptor is one of the best), their Dive coasters, and about half of their hypers. They just seem too gentle, in my opinion. Most of their rides are pretty forceless and slow paced.
Couldn't agree more. It was after Diamondback that I realized how much more I loved Intamin. Diamondback gets such rave reviews, and I was SO excited about it...but after riding it, I (and the 2 friends I was with) thought it was kind of forgettable.
Don't get me wrong... it's a great addition to King's Island and one of the best there. But, I think Millenium, TTD, and Maverick have just spoiled me. They feel like coasters fit for 2010. Diamondback seemed like something that should have been built in the 90s. I think because B&M are 4 across with the wide track, it makes them feel sluggish. As a result, I much prefer Magnum over Diamondback.
I would have much preferred an Intamin Giga low to the ground through KI's forests & Beast-style tunnels. Could have called it the "Steel Beast." Man, a coaster like that would have made KI!
If you have been on one B&M, you have been on them all. Step outside your "safety" zone already! At least Intamin is willing to try some off the wall stuff, yes some have their problems, but at least they are different experiences.

I know what you mean JW.
B&M should be more extreme and force more of their riders to get facial piercings or leg amputations.

Lots of B&M bashing going on. I haven't been on many, but Diamondback, IMO, is a great ride. B&M has a few prototypes out now in the 230 ft range, it's not impossible that they are looking into going to the next level and getting up towards the 300 ft. and/or 100 mph range.
B&M, like Intamin, make excellent, crowd-pleasing coasters (generally speaking). The "forceless" "all the same" talk is pretty much just enthusiass nonsense, IMO.

We can't all be cool like you, John (or "Stumpy", as he's known by his friends). ;)

True words Brandon......unfortunately it's falling on deaf enthusiass ears.
And if I got "facial piercings" from Dragster or something else, I'd hang on to them and make ACTUAL piercings out of them.....solely as souvenirs. :)

I've not been on I305, so I can't speak to its grey-out abilities, but Diamondback remains the only coaster to ever make me see stars. The back seat of that thing is forceful as hell.
The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

I can't wait to get out to KD to ride 305, unfortunatly I just heard a rumor that they added trim brakes on the first drop.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Given what people have said about the ride, that may not be such a terrible thing. Would you be similarly disappointed if the ride were, say, 5 feet shorter?
Brandon
I would like to see some rides that the ENTIRE family can enjoy together! That includes lil baby at 36 inches and old shrinking grandma at 48 inches....
Wouldn't that be something???

Either get rid of the Mean Streak, or redo the rails on it and change them to the steel cylindrical rails like on the Gemini. I'm not sure if that's possible, but it would make the ride 100 times better. If they can't do it, just scrap it. It takes up too much room for how few people ride it these days.
If they did that, it wouldn't be a wooden coaster anymore, it would just be a steel coaster with wooden supports. I would prefer Mean Streak be left alone then have the Steel rails put in like Texas Giant in SFOT. I'm sure Cedar Point will eventually put a new wooden coaster back there, but for now we have to enjoy Mean Streak. I believe when Mean Streak was built, it was the tallest and fastest, but not the longest. Although on a couple pages back, I suggested they re-build Mean Streak like how Voyage was built. Steel structure with wooden track. You can do a lot with that.

That's fine by me. I love the look of wooden coasters, especially the Mean Streak, but love even more the smooth ride of steel coasters.
I know there's tons of evidence that the ride is going to be a flat or some kind of small coaster (Zacspin) that can fit nicely in Demon Drops spot, but CF has been throwing in a lot of sister B&M coasters lately. Behemoth, Diamondback, and Intimidator are all very similiar in height, length, trains, and layout and Cedar Fair added them in 2008, 2009, and 2010 respectively to different parks. Is there another one coming in 2011? Is Cedar Point adding a new coaster in 2011?
I'm just saying....
Those B&M's provide those parks with something they were previously lacking. Cedar Point does not lack a hyper or giga coaster. I can't imagine why they'd replicate something they already have, especially given the expense.

I think Diamondback would fill a similiar void that a coaster like Maverick does in that, on paper, no, there isn't much to point out, but the experience is much different. It would be much, much smoother and more aggresive than a coaster like Magnum, and be filled with different elements like 6 or 7 air time hills and something like the splash down effect (only different) that maybe isn't there with a coaster like Millennium.
Edit - please don't get me wrong, there's very little chance a coaster like that is going in. Just with the recent relationship and headliner at coastermania, there is some (small) hope.
oh, definitely not. It's just in my personal 'I want it so there's obviously a good chance that it's coming' file. :)
But really, anything that costs $22 million better be good, damn good.
I think CP should work on making improvements to existing areas such as.
1. Parking Lot- Either a parking tram or a safer designated walkway for guests to get to their car.
2. Queue line Shade- Maxair and Blue Streak could use some shade structures.
3. Queue line modifications- The queue for Maxair could be extended so it doesn't back up on the midway and Mean Streak could have queues removed. Raptor has a flaw in its queue section closest to the Blue Streak. There are no gaps in the queue, guests have to walk through each row , so when the line gets shorter most jump over or under the rails. Make some simple cuts and adding chains would be an easy fix.
4. Queue line music- Other queues should have the park music piped into it such as Power tower, Sky Hawk, Blue Streak, Corkscrew, and Mean Streak.
5. Longer Ride times on flat rides- I would rather wait longer and get a longer ride on flat rides such as Troika, Calypso, and Matterhorn. 60-70 Second ride times are way too short.
