What Would You (Realistically) Like To See @ Cedar Point in the Future

I don't know if there is a similar topic out there, but I am just curious what everyone would like to see at Ceadr Point (not a 500ft, double looping woodie), but realistically what you would like to see added. Here's is what I think:

1. I had always thought a Boardwalk themed area would be a great addition along the lakefront by Wicked Twister. Maybe build a nice wooden coaster on the beach and build a pier that would have smaller rides and a bunch of games.

2. Start a new section to the park by utilizing the land on Millennium Island. This may be harder now that STR has been built, but I still think there's enough room there (since they're still going to have terror island). They could put some place to eat back there and it would be a nice pathway to cut across to frontier trail. I don't know what rides could be put there, but always thought it would make for a nice addition.

3. Also, if Cedar Point ever needed more room to expand, they could start using sections of the parking lot. I always wondered if they would built some sort of parking garage away from the park (near breakers express, or castaway bay) and have a nice monorail that takes you to the park (or a shuttle bus, but a monorail sounds nicer and probably moves more people at once).

I personally believe that they have enough room to work with, but here's some of my greams for the park:

1. A B&M that snakes through the parking lot. Wouldn't it be cool to drive in and see a coaster going over your head? You can remove all lightpoles necessary and then put the footers there. Attach flood lights to the footers, and those lights are replaced. Then put those fancy B&M nets underneath every part that would go over a car, and metion that when you buy a parking pass, you sign off liability from the park!

2. This one is kind of drastic, but: Eliminate Soak City. Now I know what you are thinking, are you insane RW? No, I'm not. I think this would be one of the best moves CP could make. Now, while doing this, you would have to add on to the indoor section of Castaway Bay (kind of like Kalahari did) and then create an outdoor area too (not like Kalahari, a real one.) This way, you promote people to stay at Castaway Bay while at the same time creating more land for coasters, flats, shops, and resturants in the park. Plus, they can move the slides they want to keep and add newer slides!

3. 537 ft vertical cable lift hybrid double looping woodie. ;)

Please explain to me where on Castaway Bay's property you'd fit a Soak City-sized water park.

Eliminating Soak City would be a silly move because it is part of what makes Cedar Point a resort destination. Without Soak City, it would be harder to market Cedar Point as a multi-day vacation spot. They still could, but not as easily. I say they should put some money into it and give it a nice sprucing up.

It would have to be a very small park indeed.

I vote for a 540 ft. dueling, triple-looping, partially under water woodie. ;)

Seriously though, that's my vote...

Realistically, the only real niche left for a coaster is a modern woodie, something like a GCI twister, maybe around 100 feet. With Maverick, I think the idea was telegraphed that a moderately-sized coaster can deliver intense thrills, and such a coaster would build on that idea. Plus, after Son of Beast and the waning popularity of Mean Streak, I don't see Cedar Fair being too eager to break any records with wood.

The only other niche that's out there coaster-wise is a solid sit-down looper. I don't think is all that likely for two reasons, however: First, coasters with 6 loops or more seem to be on the decline, and certainly not as coveted as they were during the 80s and early 90s. Second, the park has four looping coasters, that, although none is a sit-down coaster with more than 3 inversions, nevertheless have nearly every type of looping element between them. If Corkscrew were ever to be removed, this could change, however.

The one thing I don't see in the near future is any coaster that emphasizes height. Between the three 200+ coasters in the park, it's hard to envision a new coaster that would fill a niche that's not already occupied.

As for non-coasters, the one glaring hole is a dark ride of some sort. However, since the park offers all the haunts during Halloweekends, I can imagine that management could easily conclude that the haunts fill this niche, albeit not year round.

The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

How about a new CEO?

Oh...you said REALISTICALLY. My bad.

I'd like to see another Gigacoaster taller than MF. MF is the new Magnum XL with it already 10 years old. It's still a great ride, but i'd like to see another ride taller, faster, and awesome. Where you ask? Possibly Where demon drop used to be, heading towards wicked twister near the beach and the resorts.

First time to Cedar Point was opening day 2009, 7 hours in line for TTD, 2 rollbacks =)

They tried building a taller coaster than MF, and they ended up with TTD. I think they learned their lesson.

I have to agree with dj here. We already have two great coasters over 300 feet. Albeit one of them is only 17 seconds long at least you have the option.

I would much rather see a modern twisting woodie going in up at the front of the park than anything else. If you start it where Demon Drop was and run it out on the beach a little really think it would add character to the skyline and not use up to much actual park area. Bonus is that it returns back to the old style rides that used to be on boardwalks and beaches.

I have to agree that statistics aren't the whole name of the game anymore (not saying I don't want a mammoth :)). I can remember being in college and hearing that Maverick was only 105 ft. People were saying it was going to be a kids coaster/lame/no big deal.

Yeah, right.

1. Blue Streak midway needs new life. Move the turnpike cars and do something with the old Pirate Ride building.

2. Soak City needs new attractions in the worst way. Too many to name...just look at the water rides that have come out over the last 5-10 years that Soak City does not have.

3. Tear down Mean Steak and the planning and development building, and use that space to expand. I'd like to see a new wooden coaster back there, similar to Thunderhead at Dollywood, and other rides added over time.

4. It would be nice to actually see the lake again while inside the park. I like the Boardwalk idea, but I think Wicked Twister ruined that view. Personally, I think Wicked Twister would have to be moved for a Boardwalk project to take shape. And, yes, Disaster Transport would need to go!

I think #1 and #2 are realistic, and I'll be curious if #3 has a chance if CP ever gets sick of investing in upkeeping MS. As for #4, we'll I've been dreaming for years for the warehouse to come down. :-)

1. Soak City definitely needs an upgrade of some sort. I'd agree with whomever suggested to remove it completely, but it's true that it doesn't make sense from a resort perspective.

2. Burn, demolish, or blow up Mean Streak. Not even on the busiest of days have I experienced for than a 10 minute wait. There are so many reasons to remove this thing; It sits right on the lake and another coaster could provide a better view (as well as experience), piss poor number of ridership, fun factor of zero, etc.

3. Disaster Transport 2.0. It be nice to see DT get a complete makeover; brand new effects, lighting, trains, track. Basically a whole new ride, but with the same theming and a building touch up. But then again, a whole new dark ride somewhere else in the park, would allow the DT/DD space to be used for an attraction that takes advantage of the coastline.

4. I've always been a fan of the parking garage idea, but if we are talking realistically, then I can see a modern woodie being in the near future. I'd love to see an El Toro type coaster at the park, possibly in the place of mean streak or DT/DD.

5. Unrealistically; a euro fighter, new height record, new speed record, and food worth my money.

Why not just move soak city off property? Cedar point owns a bunch of land near the Mc Donalds right outside the park. The waterpark would still be close enough to cp, that they could run shuttle busses if needed.

That would free up a bunch of land for future expansion of the park. Then thay could add a dark ride, wooden twister, sit down looper, and a few spin and pukes.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I'm guessing that the removal of Demon Drop was for Cedar Point's need of that space (as opposed to the other parks need for Demon Drop), and that, that space was needed for something more than just a new hot dog stand.

Furthermore I'm guessing it is indeed for the parks next big ride or coaster.

Was white water landings removal announced before the announcement of Maverick? How long before hand? and looking at past years and other parks (like the intimidators at Dominion and Carowinds) when do they generally start hinting at new attractions? I know announcements are generally made Septemberish.

I agree, Soak City is in need of something new and exciting. I am surprised there hasn't been a funnel slide installed or a water roller coaster. I like the water coasters that castaway bay and kalahari have, but think Cedar Point should get one and make it a longer experience like Schlitterbahn's.

A dark ride with some real planning would be great too (a mummy like experience like at Universal would be cool)

I want to see an El Toro coaster with prefab track from Intamin with tuns of air time.

Yes. Get rid of disaster transport and put in an awesome indoor coaster like the mummy.

Probably because there is no need. Attendance at Soak City seems to be just find for them. Why fix something that isn't broke? My guess would be that once attendance starts to slip, we will see a new addition.
