Imagine if the entire second half of the ride was covered in fog so think you couldn't see the track. Oh baby.

I'm not a big fan of the name. I'm kind of hoping history repeats itself.
I mean, if they want to call it a werewolf, why do so in French? I can understand why the Belgians did it (http://rcdb.com/1029.htm) but why Cedar Point? Can we get a pronounceable name for Rougarou:TCFKAM:TCFKAB?
I am looking forward to riding the thing again, something I have not been able to do since it hurt me about 16 years ago...

Because calling the ride werewolf is boring... Rougarou is a much better alternative and it isn't simply a werewolf. The stories and legends behind the Rougarou creature/spirit are numerous. You have to look deeper than the wikipedia page and you will find that the legend of the Rougarou spans cultures and languages. From the Bayou to Native American folklore. It can be a number of things depending on who you ask, I love that mystery and folklore aspect around the name.
As far as history repeating itself, I doubt they will re-name Rougarou The Dung Beetle next week, and then in 2022 build a stratacoaster at KI called Rougarou.
Have to admit that I was wrong too. The announcement came way before the new year. I wasn't really for or against Mantis's demise. I was in high school when they built it and love the nostalgia at CP. But in reality after so long everything there looks more and more like bird crap every year. What they are doing to the ride looks great. The old OTSR's aren't going to be those gigantic head bangers. And my wife will probably ride it. She always complained about her legs hurting. I would ride it if I could walk on while she waited but usually didn't ride it because she wouldn't. I don't think the ride experience will change much other than the extra train. At some point for safety reasons they started paying attention to whether or not you were positioned right in your seat causing delays that reduced it to 2 trains. When it opened they didn't care if you were sitting in the seat. Now with more people in line and smoother loading time the ride will be improved. I am glad to see they aren't scrapping 10 million dollars in steel.
Everything they are adding in 2015 are just improvements. Nothing "new". That is pretty much what they need to do. We've got a mature park that just needs to look and feel nicer to keep people coming back. I have been very impressed with the new lighting packages our rides are getting. The Gemini midway is impressive. We don't need a new ride to increase profits. They will never build anything that will get all those Japanese to come in flocks to the park with their cameras like MF did. CP is still a world destination but never to that extent.
I could see CP building a coaster next year but the other parks are still in need of the new stuff because it can improve their overall draw to their parks. Just watch what happens at Carowinds next year and you will see. Carowinds is just starting a multi-year expansion that won't end with the new 325 ft. coaster. There is a possibility to improve their attendance by 20-30 percent. That's what they need.
Someone brought up Mean Streak being redone for next year again today. Quit thinking about it. People still like riding wooden roller coasters. Mean Streak wouldn't be open on Fridays for Halloweekends if it still didn't get a draw from the parks visitors. It was the tallest wooden coaster when it opened and with all the larger ones being transformed into steel coasters its probably not going to happen. Plenty of people go to KI and CP to ride the Beast and Mean Streak.

I'm curious to know when and where this idea actually originated. It's obviously been talked about on PointBuzz for well over a decade. I wonder if it really was something discussed at the park going back that far.The teaser video seems to reference PointBuzz directly, which is really funny. Although it probably has been discussed other places, this topic has really been debated here for a long, long time.
Well... It does have the same color scheme as this site.
No complaints here. This would have been an "off" year anyway, with significant additions in 2013 and 2014.
It's a great marketing ploy, and will get people to come to the park. Marketing Rougarou and Breakers together is a great plan for 2015.
As stated before, the park is already dubbing this as their "New Floorless Coaster."
It's marketing genius really, they could possibly get a return close to what they get when they build a brand new roller coaster, for fractions of the cost.
I'm anxious to see the entire area. As Tony stated, don't take the rendering video at face value. I would suspect the whole area will be similar to what they did with Banshee. I'm hoping for a new station as well.
I still don't understand the complaints of the Mantis roar. It really gets heads turning and creates such an intimidating sound. Why would they put holes in the track just to fill with sand, and then fill it back up. Just as what was mentioned before, this is supposed to be a cheaper alternative to a new ride. Holes, sand, patching holes, etc. all seems unnecessary for this conversion.

Really? I'm loving it. It's nice to have something creative that makes it stick out. Plus right next door during Halloweekends they have had the Bayou-themed haunt, so perhaps there was some Cajun influence in the air recently.
How about a Po' Boy food stand next door?
Promoter of fog.
It looks like Screamscape was right again. I'm looking forward to the change, but agree that a different type of harness may lead to a better ride experience than the one in the pictures (which may change).

It's not intimidating, it is extremely annoying and loud enough standing next to the bottom of the first drop that drowns out everything else in the area. If I had to choose between new trains or sand in the track, I'd say keep the stand-up trains but please put some sound absorbing material in the track. That noise is the only thing I don't like about the ride, the standing position was fun for me.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I hope so, but judging from the comments on CP's facebook page, a good number of people aren't really on board with Rougarou as an exciting new attraction.
I have to say though that if they do the special effects right, like the fog and lights, this could turn out to be very cool, especially at night. The low part of the track, after the mid-course brake, could be made very eerie with the right amount of fog settling over the track.

All they did was post the same rumor that was being talked about here and everywhere else, along with lots of other speculation and questions (will Rougarou be a dark ride, is Mantis being named after King James). There's no credit due.
I like the loud sound of Mantis. I can see how it would be a bit obnoxious if you're trying to sit or stand next to the ride and have a conversation. But it's also kind of fun to hear the train come roaring down the track. Seems pretty fitting for a revamped ride themed after a monster.
Screamscape, like the members of this forum, tend to cover every possibility. If you do that, you can pretty much be right every time.

So I wonder what will happen with the trim on the drop. Why was it added in the first place anyways?

There comes a point when noise crosses the tolerable range and moves to an obnoxious nuisance. When the train comes down the drop, I can't even carry on a conversation with someone standing right next to me. (Even applies at the Dragon's Inn when ordering my meal). I personally don't even think TTD's launch sequence is that noisy! It just isn't pleasing.
That's why I previously mentioned that Millennium Force's roar is subtle yet loud enough to notice something huge is barreling down the track. A happy medium.
