Rougarou teaser video

Rumor has it that the trim on the first drop was added to make hitting dispatch interval easier when the ride had three trains. Doesn't explain why they chose to keep it on after three-train operation ended. If they wanted to add a few extra seconds to each cycle, it seems like the most obvious and cost effective solution would have just been to slow the lift down a bit.

I think it's pretty apparent that the trim was added because the ride was just too darn intense on the feet and legs when the train was allowed to run all out. A problem that doesn't exist with floorless trains! I expect the trim to be gone when Rougarou opens in the spring :)

It's not intimidating, it is extremely annoying and loud enough standing next to the bottom of the first drop that drowns out everything else in the area.

Then don't stand next to the first drop if it is too loud for you. I mean, common sense my friend.

What is in that area that you need complete silence? The bottom of Mantis' first drop is in it's own location. If I'm over by Millennium Force, I can have a perfectly clear conversation with whoever I'm with while Mantis is still going in the background. Even standing at the railroad tracks when the gates are down due to a train crossing, a Mantis train only passes the first drop and loop (which are its loudest sections), which is not that deafening to drown out that much sound. That is just an over dramatic statement

If you can't bare the noise, then stay out of those areas and think of a detour then. Heck, if it is noise you don't like, let's also tell Cedar Point to think of a less quieter ride than Wicked Twister. Have you ever tried having a conversation with somebody on the platform as the LIMs are being loud and the train is flying in and out of the station? Give me a break.

When the noise of the ride even makes it difficult to carry on a conversation sometimes when sitting on the Dragon's Inn patio than it is too loud. I get that for some reason you think it is cool to have an obnoxiously loud roller coaster. I don't, and I think it would be great if the park toned it down. Gatekeeper is perfect, if it is structurally possible to add sound deadening material to the track and the park does it, then I'm really liking the Mantis renovation even though I thought the stand-up trains were just fine.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Obnoxiously loud? Another over dramatic statement. The sound fades once the train leaves the dive loop. I don't think the B&M roar is going to ruin anybody's over priced lunch.

You also already know Cedar Point can't cater to everybody. Especially since you're in the minority of who likes the stand up gimmick.

I actually do agree that it is obnoxiously loud. However I do like it for whatever reason why I don't know, I just like the annoyingly loud sound going by. I would not be sad at all though if it was dulled down slightly.

It's definitely obnoxiously loud. You're obnoxiously oblivious if you think otherwise. If you can handle it, great! But it sucks for people who have overly sensitive hearing.... like me. It's not fun having a constant ringing in your ears after passing by one coaster.

But I guess I'm just being overly dramatic as well.

The stupidity has already started..but I have to say I figured this would happen, after seeing how people reacted to Bat this season down @ KI..Sigh.

Hmmm lets see...Dominator, Steel Venom/Voodoo/Possessed, Thunderhawk, Xflight/Firehawk..etc. All marketed as NEW coasters. In reality it is a new coaster, something CP doesn't have.

I've had to stop mid conversation many times when walking past it trying to talk over it. So yes, it is obnoxiously loud.

TTD120, there's a difference between loud noises causing an affect on your ears vs. the noise just being obnoxious or annoying. But I'm not going to argue with you about it. It is something that has been at the park for 18 years, but why all of a sudden is it such a nuisance to pass by?

coasterJay, oh the horror!!1!

Wait, who said that it was suddenly obnoxious? The B&M Roar™ has been obnoxiously loud ever since I first heard it about a decade ago. When you are on the phone nearby attempting to make a phone call and you have to pause for 5-10 seconds, that's obnoxious. When, as has been pointed out, you're standing at Dragon's Inn and have to pause your order until a Mantis train passes, that's obnoxious.

People may have been more accepting of it in its earlier years, but the B&M Roar™ has always been obnoxious. Luckily, it has been replaced by the B&M Whisper™ in recent years through the usage of sound dampening material.

Look at it this way. Your old-school car doesn't have much in terms of sound dampening. It's pretty annoying, but it's what you're used to, so it is what it is. Would you shun a new car with various foams and other materials that hush the road noise? That's effectively what this is, except most vehicles don't have road noise anywhere near as loud as the B&M Roar™.

Considering in 2013 when a majority of users and enthusiasts were hoping Gatekeeper had the infamous B&M roar...I haven't ever seen anybody complain about the noise Mantis produces until now.

I wish they would tone down some of the obnoxiously loud speakers at various points along the midway. I find them to be more annoying than Mantis.

I don't recall "a majority" hoping for that.

Furthermore, the fact that most new coasters have sound deadening when built is a pretty strong indicator that most people do not like the obnoxiously loud roar. Parks tend not to spend money without a good reason.

Brandon

Raptor's pretty loud also. No complaints here from either that or Mantis, because I'm entitled, and I love me my loud roller coasters.

Please go back to 2013 forums and rewatch the announcement video at the front gate. Listen to all of the "awww" when they said Gatekeeper wouldn't have the same loud roar like Raptor and Mantis. Not to mention, I'm pretty sure location plays a major role in whether they use sound deadening, and not by popular demand from the GP.

Do you honestly think that the masses do not complain about the B&M Roar™? Or do you think that the park just ignores them until they want to put in sound dampening?

What does that have to do with anything? It's not as if that group is necessarily representative of the majority of enthusiasts.

What's the last coaster built that didn't have sound deadening?

It could also be a safety issue. I'd be interested to see the dB measured directly beneath Raptor's loop. It wouldn't surprise me if that level of noise is close to being damaging.

A few coaster enthusiasts wishing for something silly does not make it a majority of park guests.

Like Brandon said, they would not spend money on something if it wouldn't add to the functionality or quality of the ride. The front gate is a gathering place for people, who wants their hearing blasted while waiting to purchase tickets or get into the park? That doesn't make the midway any less important.

Like Adam, I've had ringing in my ears after spending 1/2 hour eating some chicken fingers and trying to have a conversation on the Dragon's Inn patio. I would rather have a pleasant experience being in the vicinity of the ride rather than listening to the noise. The B&M roar, which thankfully they have engineered out of new rides with the sound deadening, makes the ride sound cheap and low quality IMHO.

Agreed. I much prefer Eve's wail on Banshee to the B&M Roar™. :)
