mean streak

What about a "CGI" ?(I think that's what they call it) coaster like Valleyfair.

It is GCI, as in Great Coasters International. A GCI at CP would be amazing, but I am not going to hold my breath.

MS is not that bad. Last time I rode it, I wanted to ride it again right afterwards. So, everyone has their opinions. If you don't like it, don't ride it. Shorter lines for me.:)

Apparently Blue Streak is a historic landmark now, so they can't tear it down. I haven't heard this confirmed yet though. Anyone know for sure?

You can tear down landmarks. Hotel Breakers used to be a historic landmark too - that is until CP altered it so much it lost it's status.

Well, I think Blue Streak is an excellent coaster given it's age, and MS is a piece of ..... I rode MS this past week, and could not wait to get off of it. I think the addition of Maverick will actually hurt MS ridership. Even as a walk-on, it's time that's better spent waiting for Maverick (which rocks btw).

And I for one would be thrilled to see an Intamin woodie added to CP's lineup, especially if it's of the quality of El Toro.

A CGI would be hard to ride, considering its computer generated. ;)

Tom, I agree on your point about hurting MS ridership, but I still disagree with Intamin. Their track record at CP is far from perfect, and I think it would do CP good to try a different company this time around.

From the Q&A session at Coastermania, Dick Kinzel made it pretty clear that we're not going to see an Intamin woodie at CP anytime soon. As in, when someone directly asked if CP would buy an Intamin Plug and Play coaster, he said, "No".

I also enjoy Blue Streak considerably more than Mean Streak. I'd be glad to see them replace MS with something else, even if it's not another wood coaster.

Why in the world would they tear down Blue Streak? That ride is a hidden gem at CP, everytime I ride it it just gets better and better.

Also DT, despite the higher ups opinion of it constantly gets lines that are second only to Maverick, TTD, MF a two train cycle Magnum and Raptor. Clearly the public loves that ride.

No, they don't love the ride, they love its air conditioning on a hot day. The only people who love that ride tend to be younger kids.

I do love DT, I just hate the theming. The worst thing about the ride itself is that it's too short. I've never heard any regular rider bash it the way we all tend to do here. Most of them are pretty oblivious to the fact that the theming makes no sense, that it's somewhat of a mechanical nightmare, etc.

Of course, the air conditioning always helps.

IMHO, the only coaster at CP that deserves the melting pot/scrap yard is Mantis, or at least its trains, but I know that's not going to happen any time soon.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

I really wouldn't mind the trims on Mean Streak if they weren't on the drop. I guess it's one of the only places they can really put them since the drop's track is straight at some point, but it really ruins the...first impression I guess.

I had a great couple of rides on Blue Streak this year, the airtime was great, it wasn't bumpy, and none of that screeching that some wooden coasters make.
I don't know if I would call it "so tight you can barely breathe." I can still stand up in it, which is much more loose than any other wooden trains I've been in.
By the way, I don't stand up during the ride or anything. It's a security thing I do on every single ride before it starts. You should see me squirming on Skyhawk. ;)

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

Yeah, that really kills it for me, and the ride doesn't really seem to pick up any steam after that. On one ride this year the train seemed to creep around the next hill and I was wondering if the train would make it through the entire length of track! I enjoy Blue Streak considerably more.

Mean Streak won't provide the thrilling ride that Millennium Force or Dragster provides, but it is, however, a fun ride by the lake. I think Mean Streak provides one of the most asthetic rides in the park, especially during the second half. During the second half of the ride, you cruse back through the wood structure. I especially like the one turn, with the lake on the right, and the wood structure on the left.

I absolutely hate the Mean Streak! I have only ridden it once and will never ride it again. That ride is the jerkiest ride I have ever been on! That and Blue Streak. Both of those rides need torn down, but that won't happen any time soon because Blu Streak is a classic and Mean Streak is ranked top 10 in woodies...sooo my dreams are crushed! but i would say DT would be first to go!

-2007-
Trips- 2 (June 7) (August 24)
Maverick Rides- 5
Millenium Force Rides- 4
Top Thrill Dragster Rides- 3
*Top 5*
1)Maverick 2) Millenium Force 3) Magnum XL 200 4) Top Thrill Dragster 5) Raptor
Can't wait until '08!

Somebody on this board mentioned Predator. That has to be the most painful wooden roller coaster around, and if Darien Lake was to announce its removal I would be overjoyed. It makes MS feel smooth and comfortable.

I've said it once before about the trims on MS's first drop; there's nothing like being trimmed to a stop at about 140 feet above the ground while staring at the track below.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

Do you mean that as a good thing or a bad thing Jamie?

It's pathetic.

CPFreak,
One thing about wood coasters is that the ride can significantly from day to day, as opposed to a steel coaster where the ride is more uniform. On a wood coaster with PTC trains, the ride will vary depending on where you sit. For example, the front half of any car will be smoother than the back. On a ride like Mean Streak, you need to hold on to the grab bar, and keep your back off the seat. That will provide a much more enjoyable ride.

You know I wouldn't call Mean Streak that rough! I'm surprised by some of you on here and that no one has complained about the Son of Beast. After getting off that coaster, I thought I hurt my back, that ride hurt so much, but it was retracked this year so I don't know what it's like now, but I think Mean Streak is a much better woodie then the Son Of Beast.

Im also not sure how people complain about the "roughness" of Mean Streak.

Nothing moving that slow is that rough. You could take a nap.

Bad thing. I should have put a ;) after it, but for some reason I didn't.

Trims trims trims. That's all that separates this monster from being awesome and being total pus. Never bought into the roughness bit on MS, or any other coaster for that matter. Never did, never will. Sure, it's not the smoothest thing ever built, but I'm continually amazed at the sheer number of pussies there are out there riding roller coasters. The sin is that CP just refuses to let this ride perform to its potential. Yea yea I know. 6 full time carpenters always beating the track guage back into place. Retracking half the ride every time they turn around. All the big babies complaining about how it hurt their backs. That's just to name a few reasons why they won't turn it loose. Bulloney!! In the end it's all smoke-filled coffee house crap. I ride MS one time per visit and the line has to be less than 10 minutes at that. Love the ride, but hate how they've ruined it.

I was super before Superstew was cool! Get Some!!

Kevinj's avatar

Well Superstew, that's 99% of the problem for me as well. I remember the "mean" in mean streak, and its been castrated.

It's depressing, really.
