i agree that mean streak is a pretty rough ride, but i wouldn't say it needs to be torn down. i think cedar point should make some improvements to this ride and it would be fine. remember wooden coasters are not supposed to smooth they are going to rough u up alittle. i still say the beast at kings island is the best wooden coaster that i have ever rode.
I have always agreed with what Jeff says about MS...rough or not, the ride is just boring. It never gets low to the ground, isn't fast, and has no airtime. All the retracking in the world will not save that ride.
CP prides itself on having the greatest coasters in the world and MS is simply pathetic when you compare it to basically any of the woodies in the top 30 of the Golden Tickets. After I rode the Voyage my first thought was WHY does CP not have a ride like this...it rivals all of CP's steel.
But who knows what CP will decide in terms of the best business decision. The biggest thing I took from the Q&A session was that the future of CP is still wide open and if we want to see a woodie we simply need to let the park know that GCI, TGG, and Intamin can all deliver insane wooden coasters.
IF they did decide to remove the Mean Streak, wouldn't it take a long time? I mean I say let it go for a couple more seasons and then do something. I think it would take a good 2 years to build another wooden coaster in Mean Streak's spot. Call me weird, but I still like Mean Streak, but if they ever decide to build another wooden coaster, I hope it's even better.
Why would it take two years to build something there? Hundreds of wooden coasters are built over one off-season.
i agree i wouldnt take 2 years to build a wooden coaster in mean streak's spot it would probably take 1 offseason. i still say why tear it down. just make several improvments to it. it can still be a very nice ride if several modifications were made 2 it.

I hear the title of "Only Looping Wooden Coaster" is available again..
..Al
Did they loosen up the trims a little? On sunday, it seemed to get over the 2nd and 3rd hills a little faster that it has in the past several years. Actually didn't feel like a rollback would happen.
I found this quote in the book The American Roller Coaster by Scott Rutherford.
The laminated wood rails on the mammoth wooden coasters built during the late 1980's and early 1990's have worn out much faster than on older coasters due to the combination of stress, weight, and higher speeds. Because of their sheer enormity, many of those large wooden rides have been re-profiled and tamed with braking to slow the wear and tear caused by the magnified forces. The general result of this butchering is a large but frankly mundane coaster.
To me, that perfectly explains the situation of MS.

Mean Streak is, as said before, boring. I will ride it once per vacation only to say I did on my trips to CP.
I have never had a smooth ride on MS. One of my original rides on MS, prob around 2002, I grimaced in pain through the photo section. The look on my face was priceless enough for me to take out the mini-loan required and purchase the picture.
As for woodies, I love El Toro (despise the park SFGA), but I believe it will rip itself apart in a few years. The track itself might survive, but the cross members underneath the track already show signs of stress. I love Lightning Racer at Hersheypark (ride this maybe 5 times each time I am there which is approx 3 days a week), thats a fun-FEELS fast wooden coaster that is smooth and has a few nice pops of airtime.
It has its goods and bad days. sometimes when I ride the front, it's as smooth as ever. I have noticed that if you sit in the 2nd row of any car, even the first car, it's bumpier there. but it's smoother in the first row of each car to me.
Have any of you been on it when it was brand spanking new? How was it? was it all around fun back then?
^ When it first opened, it was awesome. That's why a lot of people on here hate it so much now. We know what it was once like.
It has its goods and bad days
Which is exactly why it should be gone. Unfortunately, guests dont get a refund if a ride is having a "bad day". In terms of ride experience, for example, El Toro doesnt have a "bad day", it gives the same furious ride each time out.
In this era, amusement parks cannot afford the luxury of building rides that have "bad days". Guests pay for, and therefore deserve, a top notch performance by the staff and the rides at a place like Cedar Point. Yea, if you happen to ride Mean Streak on a "good day", you'll walk away thinking it was a geat ride. If you happen to catch it as most people do, however, you'll walk away disappointed. Look at the ridership. It sucks, to be polite.
Lets review:
Ridership? Horrible
The ride? Boring, unless you catch it on a "good day"
The "fix": Ruined the ride experience. Putting the trims on Mean Streak is like taking out the corkscrews in the Corkscrew, and still calling it the Crokscrew.
The support? About 25 fan-boys of the ride, who claim to love it for some god-forsaken reason.
The solution?: Bye bye, Mean Streak.
I cannot think of one good, logically-based reason to keep it in the park. Can you?
Other than..."but dude I LOVE this ride and so does my neighbor BOB..."
Promoter of fog.
I rode Mean Steak opening season too, and was NOT impressed at all. It can't hold a candle to Maggie or Raptor and was a complete disapointment since we had to wait close to 2 hours for one ride. Granted it was faster back then - but still a great source of wood for the world's biggest bonfire.
My first trip to CP was last June. I had a decent time on Mean Streak. This past winter I watched the POV about a million times and could not figure out why this was not one of the best rides in the park. It looks absolutely awesome...but its not. We rode it again this year (twice)and while not horrible (in comparison to the Psyclone at Magic Mountain) it just isnt a really good ride. How the greatest park in the world can only have this and Blue Streak as its woodies is beyond me. I believe an Intamin prefab is in the future. I was personally hoping that was what was going to be in Maverick's place. CP has the best steel coasters on the planet...two of the top 3.......3 of the top 10 and 4 in the top 15......but they need a nigh ranking woodie. Just an opinion.

I love how everyone lately has this huge sense of entitlement about themselves. "OMG, I paid for every single ride in the park to be operating just for me and if I don't absolutely love my experience on each ride, you owe me a refund!!!"
You're paying Cedar Point for the use of their facilities. In no way does that guarantee you will have a good time, all the rides will be open, you'll love all the food, and every ride will be your favorite ride in the whole wide world. That's just not how it works.
If you don't like one ride at Cedar Point, don't ride it. News flash: they have sixty eight other rides you might enjoy. If that one ride destroys your entire day, you probably hate just about everything else in life too. So, there's just no pleasing you.
I don't ride Disaster Transport or Corkscrew on my trips to Cedar Point. Does that mean I "deserve" money back for my admission? Uh, no. I have an amazing time without them and most other people do too.

Actually, I think the guests are entitled to feel....well, entitled, especially in this case. Cedar Point is well aware that the ride is a piece of crap. You're right, I dont (and wont) have to ride it, but they lie to people with their B.S. "top 10 woodie" poster...to me thats blatant misrepresentation.
I was not being serious when I mentioned a "refund", what I meant was that it is very disappointing that the issues of Mean Streak, which have a LONG history, go unadressed year after year after year.
But believe me, this issue isnt just with this ride, Disaster Transport is in the same ballpark, but at LEAST the ridership on DT is high. Mean Streak doesnt even have that. And then theres the old Pirate Ride still not cleaned up...it's the same issue.
But, youre right, I dont have to ride it, thank the Lord, and I wont. :)
Dont you think CP owes it to its loyal customers to do something about Mean Streak? I sure have for a long time. It's very diappointing. If I ran the park it would drive me NUTS that such a huge coaster delivers such a horrible ride, and it would be on a priority list somewhere.
Promoter of fog.
Dont expect it to be demolished any time soon. They spend way too much money building it.I just dont ride it any more.Just too painful.
