Today I noticed a bunch of families complaining about the 2016 announcements at Valleyfair. To the complete shock of anyone here, they wanted a new roller coaster. People on this forum make it seem like families don't like coasters.
Edit - I failed to read the last page, and there was some very thorough discussion about this topic. Cedar Point definitely lacks in rides the entire family can do together, but in a recent interview with the LA times (I believe), Matt Ouimet told the world that is a focal point for Cedar Fair.
As for family coasters - the days of Spinning Mad Mouses being the top dog are over. There have been some incredible looking family coasters recently, the most notable is Cheetah Hunt. A little more Busch Gardens wouldn't hurt Cedar Point. Better to copy off BG than that Six Flags in Gurnee (except Goliath, PLEASE COPY GOLIATH!)
Why do you consider Cheetah Hunt a family coaster? It has a 48" height requirement and seems to be much like Maverick.
I don't know if building a coaster for 42" or 44" tall kids would really bring a good return on investment. The only really good family coasters IMHO are the Big Thunder Mountain coasters at Disney. The theming and story line make it interesting for older kids and adults. CP wouldn't put that kind of money into theming.
The park would get a much better return on a dark ride and some different type of attractions in the style of Western Cruise. Not that much time passes between a kid being 44" and 48". Plus not all kids would be ready for even mild family coaster. Other types of rides may have more universal appeal for families with young kids.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
^ Because I'm an idiot and thought it had a lower height requirement, and I heard many people singing it's praises when I visited Kings Dominion this year. Even so, 48 is a start, and it would certainly fill a gap in the coaster lineup.
I can't think of any great family coasters, maybe a Laff Trakk...Most family coasters have abysmal capacity, which is my biggest concern at a park like Cedar Point.

I think I've mentioned it before, but a Gerstlauer spinner similar to the "Pandemonium" coasters at the Six Flags parks seem like a perfect fit. It has a 42 inch height requirement and I can honestly say that even as a thrill junkie it was a fun ride that everyone in my family enjoyed. It can also be built with a very small footprint if needed.
The most dangerous enemy is the one you don't know you have.
I wonder if people on Walt Disney World forums complain that the park doesn't have enough giga-coasters.
And yes, I think a real family coaster (a la Firechaser Express) would go a long way at Cedar Point.
Promoter of fog.

Probably still do even though they are busy enjoying the other 39.4 square miles they have above and beyond Cedar Point's 0.6 square miles. It is crazy how big that place is!
The WDW property size is big, including all of the resort hotels, water park and undeveloped property, but the individual theme parks are not unusually big in size, except for Animal Kingdom. Here is a size comparison with CP:
Magic Kingdom: 142 acres
Hollywood Studios: 150 acres
Epcot: 300 acres
Animal Kingdom: 500 acres
Cedar Point: 364 acres
So, CP is actually larger than any individual WDW park except for Animal Kingdom.

True, indeed.
Although I am always more tired walking out of Epcot than CP. Heck, it's right in the acronym: Every Person Comes Out Tired.
We always call it Schlepcot. Love the park; especially love the park during the Food & Wine Festival. But so much territory to cover...
I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

This applies to CP as well though. The peninsula is 364 acres, but the park is much, much smaller than that. Probably around ~ 150. The rest is parking, and resorts, and water park, and beach property. It's really quite impressive how well CP utilizes its space, able to fit 18 coasters and 72 rides in a really small park.
A very rough outline of the "rides" area gives just under 140 acres

Renegade, it's funny you mention people complaining about the 2016 attraction at Valley Fair. I noticed after Delirium was announced for Kings Dominion for 2016, people in the comments were upset because they want another roller coaster too. So who knows, maybe 2017 they'll get a roller-coaster.
In the age of social media you could give a dehydrated person a glass of water, and someone would complain; it wasn't big enough, cold enough, and so on. Like Bart Simpson quoted "You are damed if you do and damed if you don't"
Anyone else find it annoying that they moved the live cam as they were building foundations today? I don't want to see the entrance to Blood on the Bayou...
I was hoping they would place a cam that showed the area a little clearer but it doesn't appear they are going to. The live cams aren't very clear, especially for the station area. Yet, I realize that it is not something we enthusiasts are entitled to.
