Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season

Edit: Jugga, after my last ride on MS front seat, I'm leaning somewhat toward the believers' camp again.

For me it hasn't so much been roughness (although that's a bit of an issue, and I'll try front seat) as that with the first drop trims and MCBR it crawls.

At the point I'm hitting the MCBR I think the ride should be rapping up and yet there's still the whole second half.

What would be an interesting Coastermania addition would be Mean Streak run with no trim on the first hill and the MCBR wide open (barring its need to stop the train due to safety issues).

Tony: Thanks for the explanations. I'm not above being wrong once in a while. :)

It seems that slow progress was also a problem for Pilgrims Plunge. But when I watched a partial cycle last weekend it looked like Intamin had more or less fixed that problem. Granted the boats were moving at a speed that was more like "its a small world" than like "White Water Landing", but they were at least moving right along. Unlike Pilgrims Plunge, where the boats move kind of like the ones in the flumes in the original Roller Coaster Tycoon.

Still don't understand why if there is a complicated way to do anything, that's the method Intamin will try. Heck, even B&M are starting to use gravity to move trains around between station brakes...!

Anyone have questions I can answer?

When can we expect a 'Shoot the Rapids' POV?

I want a Space Spiral POV, only with the camera facing down. :)

^ I just took one. Not pointing straight down, more of an out and down. Straight down would be funny. We'd finally get to see what's in that pit. Not that we really want too. :)

I actually like that idea, Walt. Or maybe Frog Hopper.

Just you wait...

Shoot the Rapids POV is being edited and will be available soon.

I thought the trap door was in the TOP of the cabin. Looking down from a seat on Space Spiral would not be a very interesting show.

It would be if the camera was mounted outside the cabin, on the top rail.

OnPointTony, do you know if STR will be open for the scheduled ERT at CoasterMania? I'm really hoping to get my first ride this weekend, looking forward to the event!

For those of you not on CoasterBuzz regularly, I have posted a couple albums which include several photos of Shoot the Rapids, Paddlewheel excursions and much more. :)

Nah, Kite Eating Tree is much better. ;)

Anyone been to the park in the past two days or so to see if they are still testing? The ride was inspected on Tuesday wasn't it?

Once it's inspected can't they open?

^ I believe after the inspection there is an additional one week, mandatory, delay.

Any time line for an inspection has been pure speculation. There has not been any official information released on this. All we know for sure is that employees at the ride were saying last week that the state wouldn't come out to inspect because of the holiday weekend. We were all assuming that meant an inspection would happen on Tuesday. But, being in construction myself, I know how it is dealing with AHJ's (authorities having jurisdiction). They may have inspected. Or, if they have a busy schedule, they may have had to schedule for another time. No way to know until the park tells us.

As of an hour ago, there is no activity at the STR site at all.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

For what reason?

Once the State has issued the operating permit, the ride can carry paying customers. Period.

Some years ago, I was present at Kings Island when Scooby Doo's Ghoster Coaster opened. I shot video, I shot stills (still using film at the time) and I watched as the inspector attached the validation sticker to the brass plate. Ten minutes later, the ride was operating at the mind-blowing rate of 96 riders per hour.

That is definitely not correct.

It was a joke. Some bad intamin/delay humor, sorry.
