Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season

No, it will be a cold day on a water ride...

which is apparently even less likely to occur than a cold day in hell with this crew!

Hey all, I just wanted to say that if you go over to thepointol.com and look through their opening day pics you will see some test run photos of Shoot the Rapids. There is a picture of a boat landing in the water after the second hill and it looks as if the water splashes to the sides of the boat on the rocks rather than on you.

BTW, if they are testing, are those the new boats??

^They should be because the boats were larger before and got damaged when they went down the hills.

They're not getting new boats, just retrofitting the existing ones. Presumably, those are they.

Small note: I noticed that half of the 25 cent cannons are at the end of the ride, where we have seen and the other half are turned the other way and lined up aiming towards the portion of the ride right after it exits the tunnel at the start of the ride. Two times that chance to get 'bombed'.

Did you watch the video? One of the cannons is fired and the amount of water that comes out is laughable. Glad everyone was complaining about getting "blasted" by these.

I wish I would have known we could use the cannons while I was there, I would have thrown a quarter in and tried one. I thought, based on the blog, we had to 'wait' until the 29th.

One things for sure, the ride looks damn nice from the midway and the deck.

Is there any word on the height to ride?

Dear fans,
Please do a 2010 video from PWE (which IS allowed) or a video from the Mine Ride (which isnt) to capture the state of the themeing on that corner of the "river". the hillbillies have to be gone as there is no room for them... How do they preserve the feud theme in terms of the river and/or STR....Thanks,
a stranded in colorado fan....

and the boneville route as well please from the train.....

Last edited by jo linn,

I heard that some of the theming from PW was moved around. The only theming of Boneville that was interfered with was the skeletons playing the instruments and it may have been moved or may still be there. Not sure!

Hattfields and McGee's were moved up river before the turn to where Shoot the Rapids is now. Was Buck Skinner moved as well? Because I honestly don't remember seeing him on my one trip around. I think the StR area is very well done and fits into it better than what I originally thought it would. I'm sure the purists out there disagree. The beaver scene is gone as of now, the rest of the ride from Seville to the end are unchanged.

What I did notice is that none of the animatronics were working when we went (Sunday May 16th) on PWE. Even Delbert Fienstien wasn't running so I'm not sure what was up with that. Is that controlled by the PWE crew? Or were they simply not ready for the season?

Also on the train, "I've been working on the railroad" was moved ( I think) and working, the boneville scenes of the band that plays "When the Saints..." was moved and not working. The building next to Mantis was not working at all. So it was odd having a lot of the animatronics out at CP and made me realize exactly how many there are in the park.

Speaking of PWE, what do they say as they pass STR? Any new corny jokes?

STR looks amazing. The water blasters are fine and fun. Looks like it will be a great ride. Props to CP.

Our PWE captain said Buck Skinner is no longer there. The animatronics weren't working on Saturday either. On my ride there was more of a discussion about things around us than there were jokes because it took us a good 10 minutes to get around.

I did not see Buck Skinner. His old spot was vacant. Delbert Fienstien was not working and has not since late last summer. I didn't heard Muddy Rivers singing his song and I'm not sure if CeeMoeDee was painting.

Captain Steve was in good form Saturday. He had a funny back and forth going with this little girl that knew everything about CP. She finally got a fact wrong, she missed the height of STR's first hill by one foot. Captain Steve had fun with that.

Nothing worked on Paddle Wheel except the boat and the microphone. So we just got the usual run of jokes without the working scenes.

Shoot The Rapids looks amazing. They did a really good job with the themeing. I noticed the tunnel is not fully enclosed.

Is Buck Skinner the price of fur guy?

If so, they did show a pic of him in a blog post so he may still be there...

^There is mist in the tunnel though.
