Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season

Or we could use initials, since that's infinitely less dumb sounding (and in keeping with other attractions' PB/CB nicknames). :)

Good Afternoon all! A couple things about STR. First, I am happy for a nice family ride. My kids are starting to want to go on the water rides and I was all opposed because I am not liking the idea of getting totally drenched and than go walk around. The ride looks fun and I wish it luck. Now my Second thought was, is this ride going to be shut down in September because of cooler temps? The money investment seems rather high for a ride that could possibly lose alot of people in line in May and in the fall. What is everyones take on this?

WWL was open until end of October every year. Mostly because it was the one that got you least wet. If StR is along those lines, it'll have no problem running through the fall months. I'm hoping that's the plan too.

According to Jeff, this is something they're cognizant of, and the ride's wetness factor is adjustable.

I'm sure the park is aware that people smoke in line too, doesn't mean they are active at fixing that.

My only concern with the waterfall is that it seems to be "in line" with the trough. The one on WWL was "across" the trough. Of course, this could just be artistic license, so we'll have to see.

I'm actually hoping there's some new animatronics going in to fill in the flat parts of this ride. That would definitely fill in some of the story that was laid out by the ride description. I think there's a lot more yet to be added that is not in the renderings.

Yeah John, I thought the waterfall alignment was odd also. However, that may make it easier to lean toward the outside to avoid getting completely drenched.

For the record, I'm not a fan of nicknames. Maggie, Millie, Rappy, Turnpikey ... none of them.

And congratulations to the community. We've found a group even more ridiculous than our fanboys ... Facebook. :)

I didn't see anyone talk about what changing the look of the island will do for the riders on Millennium Force.

It would seem to add a little visual effect while riding MF now.

GATEKEEPER-I came, I rode, I was mildly disappointed; until a second ride (rear left) put GateKeeper back on the...it's a nice ride list.

I think the Terror Island set-up modified MF much more than this will. StR is outside the ride profile of MF and doesn't seem like there's much for interaction.

EDIT:

Forgot how close they were, but still don't think there's that much for interaction.

Speaking of Terror Island...how might this ride affect that?

The new ride looks like it will be fun! I hope we get a hotter summer next year than this year! I might have missed , but how fast will this go on the hills?

Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs

Oh god. I'm not even reading their comments any more after today. They feel betrayed cause they didnt get that 300ft woodie with a corkscrew. Of course half of them still think the IMAX theatre is still there too. I remember someone kept saying that the IMAX was still there and I couldnt help but laugh hysterically.

Stupid question. Are the boats on a "chain", if you will, the entire ride, or are they allowed to flow freely throughout the course?

The reason I ask is, because in the video Walt posted, the boat was constantly moving forward in the station while people were getting on it.

WWL wasn't connected to a chain and its boats were constantly moving forward in the station.

One thing I didn't notice on any of the ride info pages, and hopefully Tony can answer - will there be onride photo/video?

Both, attached to the chain (like any coaster) while climbing the hill as well as in the station like the video showed but floating free through the rest of the ride.

There will be on-ride photo. Station is dual-loading, non-moving platform, much like Maverick.

Cool. Thanks Tony. I cant wait to ride.

I am Really Bummed that it is not a new Coaster But the way it looks-it looks like snake river falls and thunder canyon got together and had a baby (This Ride) I'm just disappointed,Thay Really needed to get a really cool Different Coaster I think this ride is just a waist of money! but thay said thay wanted to add a FAMILY type ride,I just don't expect the line to be jammed packed Until mid to late June Cause it will be too cold until then and who is gonna ride it during hallowed weekends? if you want to risk getting Pneumonia go right ahead!
Dont get me wrong I might take a Spin On it If it like 80+ Degrees out but in all i have no interest,I'm really Bummed :(

JuggaLotus's avatar

You don't get pneumonia by getting a bit damp in the fall.
