Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season

madrid - probably the same way they do on countless flumes that don't have moving platforms (see MiAdv). Let them stack up and when the blockage is opened, they'll flow forward. There's a reason flume boats have giant bumpers on the fronts and backs.

fanatic - how do you know we're seeing the final edition? I would imagine there's more that will be there on opening day than what is being shown.

Eric - can you at least attempt to look like you respect the rules laid out for the community? Its not hard to use proper punctuation and capitalization. It will also lend credence to any argument you try to make because it won't sound like its coming from someone with a second grade education.

Or what John said....let em stack. I doubt these boats will work like other flumes though and brakes will be used to separate them.

eat. sleep. ride! - Coaster apparel and accessories!

Ride on, MrScott!

I try my best to do everything right !!!
Excuse me if my punctuation is not correct
Spell Check dose not do that for me!

Jugga, I agree that this project isn't finished yet and that there may be more to it. I just feel as though, I don't need 3 different ways to get soaking wet. Thats why I will like this ride if you don't get wet.

So is it possible that the lift chain that was spotted near Gemini if for STR?

It might have free flow gates to hold the boats in. since it will have some type of current flowing through to push the boats through the course to the lifts.
I just wonder how many times it will be shut down in a day,Intimin has that kind of track record!!!! Look at maverick and top thrill dragster! it just seems like Intimin has that kind of problem all the time i just wonder if any other parks have the same over break down issues?
And dose any other park Have this ride or anything similar?

To repeat the point CP didnt need a new coaster , sure it would have been nice , but they needed a ride everyone can enjoy . Look at it this way StR is a heck of a lot better than planet snoopy or starlight experience from a thrill seekers stand point ( not that i dont love SE )

I have a feeling even if we had got a b&m dive machine or a gci woodie there would still be people complaining it wasnt 500ft or it wasnt fast enough.

On a seperate note I know I'll enjoy this new ride but i dont get how its a "beverage unlike any other" . Seems pretty average to me

fanatic - and I disagree that this ride will get you soaking wet. It is nowhere near just a cross between TC and SRF. Its a replacement for WWL that will get you a similar amount of wet.

And to whoever said theming is just a way to cover up a mediocre ride should go check out Splash Mountain. Great theming and one of the best flume rides in the world.

Goodbye MrScott

Just for all of ya'll, I wonder what everyone thinks will be the BEST part of this new rapids ride! Besides the ride experience itself, of course!

I am glad CP went with this type of attraction. It lives up to being a family ride. The only thing that can be a drawback is that it may be a bit cold to ride in may or october. Perhaps to rent a wetsuit, just like in real white water rafting! I have been rafting in the new river gorge and plan to raft in the Gauley river this fall. These rivers are in west virginia. It's cool how a ride can be themed to that, just like Thunder canyon is!

I like how the ride still allows PWE to operate by going under the ride. I used to think they would have to build a bridge to the island or something, or a drawbridge that lifts up to let a boat pass! :)

I like the new ride. I think it fits nicely into the area and is nicely themed to enhance the trail. The ride looks really fun and I cannot wait to see it next year.

And Miss Maverick, I think the best part of the ride will be the rapids after the 2nd drop. Also, like others have mention think the rendering doesn't show the complete theming elements, and am looking forward to seeing the rides theming elements.

Visual Scan!
First Top Thrill Dragster train of 2011!
Rollbacks: 1st Triple Rollback of 2009!

If you want more coasters, open up RCT2 and built away to your hearts content.
I bet you'll get the "Worst Amusement Park In The Country" award though. ;)

^ ha ha!

I said that. And I am not a fan of flume rides. So having the best one in the world is at best a mediocre ride. You can add all the theming to it you want; in the end you will have a mediocre ride IMO. I would rather you put more money into the actual ride itself (making it actually better) rather than making it feel better with theming. But to the extent you are doing that with a water ride, you are totally wasting your money to me because I will never view a flume ride as a great ride.

Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. Different people will have different views of this new ride. So be it. Not sure I see the relevance of the RCT franchise to the discussion though.

"Ok,first off I apologize for posting the same thing repeatedly. Second, Ido not know of an announcement date, I've just heard on or around LaborDay.(which we already know.)Also, I do not know a lot of details of theride other than it will be an intamin flume, having roughly the sameboats as Pilgrim's Plunge, and the entrance will be somewhere onFrontier Trail, likely across the path from the petting zoo. That isall I know, and I do firmly believe it. You can choose to accept thatand believe it, or disagree and try to argue and tell me I am makingthis up for no reason? Either way, hope everyone is having a great day."

There you go. I wasn't flat out lying, I was telling you what I knew. Sorry.

No, I am not going to do the told you so bullcrap and stoop to other peoples levels. I'm personally not totally sold on the ride, but a good addition nonetheless. Good day!

Wow, I come out of GttP/PointBuzz retirement and into *this* thread.

I actually think it's an interesting ride concept. Will I ride it all the time? Probably not, but it will be a very popular ride during the peak summer months. I also missed WWL. It was nice to ride in the early evenings, after the crowds had dried-off and gone back to the front of the park. I usually found the upper trough part of the ride relaxing.

'EricCartman', 'Ty_Z', etc... Most of the other posters on here are right. Parks (all, not just CP) can't go and constantly drop $25-million-plus coasters in every year and expect to get that money back within a reasonable time. The Six Flags chain tried that in the late '90s, and look where it got them.

Also, look at what the industry as a whole has been adding the last several years: Water Attractions. If not water rides, it's been expansions to water parks, and many of these parks have the water park included with admission. So, this is not a "waste of $10.5-million" as someone else posted. It's a nice ride addition that's different from what we've been getting the past several years.

I, for one, look forward to it as a ride. I just think the name could have been more exciting.

</long rant>

P.S. -- As for the grammar thing, this has *always* been a community that expects/demands proper spelling and structure. Jeff has always had the policy of no AIM/chat/leet(l337) speak here.

I admit, I'm a bit disappointed, but still holding out for some kind of "surprise" theming when the ride opens.

1. What is with the announcement? Granted this isn't as big as Millennium, Maverick or TTD, but I had to dig from about 9:10-9:13 to find it. Later it finally appeared on the main page after the Starlight Experience banner. Out of the 5 or 6 times I have visited the park website it probably came up first one time. Not to mention the lack of animations (one) lack of a dedicated page ala Maverick, lack of a full stats page or 'cars' statistics. If I didn't know any better I would say this is a joke. After all the hype the park (yes, the park) made with the comic/bottle and repeated posts on facebook & twitter then the crossing off of ride design companies near the end, the announcment itself was pretty dissapointing.

2. The ride itself. I for one welcome a flume. But this one is a bit dissapointing in the sense that it doesn't spend any time in the air ala WWL, seems pretty short, lacks anything to look at (as far as we know) and will probably sit in a field of mud for its first year like Maverick did until the grass grows. I'm only speculating here, but I really hope a large amount of the budget is spent on themeing and then kept up. But lets be real, we are talking about Cedar Point. The water bombs on Maverick don't work half the time.

3. I am not dissapointed that this is not a coaster. I was one of the many bummed out when I found out WWL was going away. This is a nice addition. (yet it seems pretty pointless now to not spend the money on a WWL rehab 4 seasons ago)

4. I really hope this ride is 10x better than the half ass animation.

5. Cedar Fair. Please make up your mind about Cedar Point. This does not round out the attraction line up. It rounds out your water rides, but that is all. A dark ride would appeal more to a family than this. Most anyone I've shown this to with the textbook definiton of family has retty much given this a big old "meh!" and will probably keep their plans for vacation next year. I'm not saying a coaster would have made it better, but this isn't going to bring in any more families of 4 or more than the previous years.

Are you the coaster capital, Americas roller coast or a place where a kid can be a kid? Just wondering.

6. The line is probably going to be awesome. A nice walk in the woods... They need to be more inventive with their lines. I've noticed at Kings Island their lines were thought out well and then you get lines like Diamondback. Its evident Cedar Fair has been through there.

I'm looking forward to next years ride... Again, I hope its better than it looks.

So when does the 2011 thread start? =D I can't wait... (sarcasm)
