Anyone else predicting an opening delay of some kind? ;)
Well clearly because they cheaped out for 2010, we will see a 550 foot floorless, B&M wood coaster in 2011 that goes 145 mph, right? And now that I think of it, I think I seem to recall seeing that looked like footer like structures being dug/built near camper village when I was there a couple of weeks ago. Of course maybe that was just practice for the offseason work on Magnum to help keep it from sinking into the Lake. LOL
I agree that a dark ride would've been much more family friendly... maybe someday when ole Kinzel is gone and atleast a little bit of creativity is brought back....

Yes because clearly he has had no creativity at all during his tenure at Cedar Point....
You read my mind coasternerd
Speaking of Kinzel , i thought this was his last year ? He's not going out with a bang if you ask me .
Eric Cartman, Do Not Capitalize Every Word You Type. You Could Probably Type A Lot Faster If You Didn't Do It. Some spelling/grammar would be good too, but by the sound of it you are in middle/high school so i'll let that pass.
On a slightly different note, now that CP has their new shiny water ride, do they do major (or even minor) renovations on the Mean Streak? Rumor has it that GCI people were sighted by the coaster. Do you think CP will actually go through with making it better now that they aren't building a coaster?
Of course, it could always be MMP 2010.
Undomesticated equines could not remove me.
For so many people saying they love this ride, the Cedar Point facebook page doesn't show it. There is a lot of negativity on it, and there should be.
To be honest, no, I don't think Kinzel very creative. All he ever has done is take an existing roller coaster model and made it the tallest and fastest.... raise food prices on food that makes McDonald's look gourmet, and his latest decision is installing outdated characters at the 5 former paramount parks. This would probably explain why my recent visits to the park I have observed less and less senior citizens and families and more and more teenagers.
In the modern age of communication, digital media and its impact on society, Disney has positioned itself to provide a product that will continue to entice people to pay for its product... (I believe Six Flags sees this vision now, unfortunately the debt from previous managment keeps them from incorporating this vision)
Cedar Fair has clearly lost touch with their fanbase if they believe that people want PEANUTS over SPONGEBOB, and that Grandparents would rather ride a water ride with their grandkids, and walk around wet all day as opposed to engaging in an interacive dark ride (i.e. Scooby Doo Castle) or a 4D Movie Theater attraction (i.e. Philar Magic, etc).
^Well they did mention that people sugguested a family ride in the past years and they listened. I think that was in the press release. I think Kinzel has done a great job with the coaster selection. If you look at Millennium Force for example, a lot of people I've talked to rate Millennium Force as their #1 coaster; period!
As for Maverick, it was not the tallest, or fastest, but it was the first coaster to utilize the horseshoe roll. And it's unique because the second launch goes underneath the station.
Now I don't know how well people like Peanuts characters, but to me it's doing a good job. Honestly what kid doesn't like Charlie Brown and Snoopy?
Tilt-A-Whirl, do you really think that people are going to skip the trip to the amusement parks next year because instead of seeing Spongebob and Dora the Explorer, they'll see Snoopy and Charlie Brown? I don't. Rather than CF paying a good chunk of money to extend the contract with Nickelodeon, they go with Peanuts universally. I don't think a three year old is going to care at all what characters are there.
And as for the food prices, go to a Six Flags park, or a Disney park. You'll find that the prices at CP are at least comparable. So they're competitive in their market.
Shootie (I like that ;) ) isn't exactly something that all of the coaster enthusiasts are going to be giddy about. But it's a good addition that I personally think is much-needed in the CP line-up. A water ride that you might not come off sopping wet. Cheers to that.

So is it possible that the lift chain that was spotted near Gemini if for STR?
Unless the Gemini ride-ops were misinformed, they said the chains were for Gemini.

Not true. I don't see what the problem is, really. No matter what they add, someone is going to piss and moan about it. We saw this with Maverick because it wasn't the tallest and fastest. We saw this with Skyhawk because people thought it was similar to maXair. You simply can't win when you try to please everyone. If you don't like this new ride, then don't go on it; shorter lines for the rest of us. I respect your opinion, but don't say that everyone should be negative toward this ride and impose like that.
I saw announcement ,the animations and various pics on the new attraction. Its a nice choice of a ride for frontier trail and does round out the water ride selection. I have a few opinions .. maybe you'll agree , maybe not..
The Bad - I'm not thrilled with the over all design of STR. It seems alittle short , thought it could have been alittle longer . A double down on the first hill would have been really cool.. I don't mind getting a little wet but hopefully not drenched
The Good - The placement of the attraction , Its nicely placed among the other water rides. I'm excited that the use of the animatronics from PWE will be a part of this . Maybe, hopefully some new ones too ( I hope pig taking a bath will be near by )
These Aesthetics will carry over and enhance the PWE , MF, and CPLERR experiences, maybe the mine ride to a small extent. Looks like the RR track will be almost on top of it.
So far I rate it about a B - , Final grade will be given, when I get to ride it next year.
I have to say that I'm not 100% impressed with the decision Cedar Point made. I would've liked to see a coaster, but I think that STR will end up being a good ride afterall. I know I'll ride it but still... a coaster would've been great.
shoot the rapids 2010...
I really don't seem to like it... I mean, I am not a fan of water rides, so this really isn't exciting for me. I'm just glad the lines will be that much shorter everywhere else. I hope these "other unannounced things and ideas" rumors going around involve something sweet.
Thank you for reading this worthless manifesto.

I'm just going to through this out there even though it is completely ridiculous and highly unlikely to happen.
The ride has two hills and the first is much larger than the second.
The entire ride is definately not shown in the animation.
The ride is said to contain surprises several times in the press release and interviews.
What if this ride is actually one of Intamin's reversing flumes and goes down the second hill backwards for a climax. I know that it is not shown in the animation, but changing the direction of the boat in the animation probably wouldn't be all that difficult.
Anyway, as I said, it is a ridiculous idea, but I just couldn't get it out of my head, so I figured that I would post it.
...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!
Last time:
Keep the conversation civil or move on.
A couple of thoughts:
Who the hell cares when someone knows what is coming? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't opening day the same for everyone?
I think we need to take "flume" out of the conversation. As far as I can tell there is not a piece of flume on this ride. The pictures make it appear to be a concrete trough. That is relevant in my opinion because it is going to be easier from a maintenance perspective.
Cedar Point is screwed. The online community tends to be younger people and I they are going to be criticized anytime they build something that isn't a new coaster. But, that happens internally as well. I remember when the park decided to expand Breakers and all the Ops folks were upset that there wasn't going to be a new ride. So it goes.
