HIGBIE!! :)
Intamin flume with Pilgrim's Plunge style boats and two drops, one in the 40's and the other in the 80's. Great looking ride.
I am very excited with Cedar Point's new ride as well. Yes it's not a coaster and I'll give you credit RaceRinger. I never doubted you, but never agreed that this would be a flume. So I apologize. I'm still very excited for Cedar Point, because they kinda needed another water ride in the line-up and this will be a good ride for them. :)
To those not calling it a flume, why is Cedar Point even calling it a flume? Anyway, I'm not looking for any credit or anything, since everyone hates me at this point. Can't wait to see the theming and stuff later on!
I Hope there is a little theming in that tunnel. I really like Kinzel. I think the only mistake he made was buying Geauga Lake. I think it is really stupid on how he wants to sell ValleyFair & Worlds of Fun. California's Great America & Michigans Adventure are two better choices to sell. He was always really generous to Cedar Point. Theming has gotten better at Cedar Point over the past three years. For 2011 i could see a boardwalk carnival theme where the Oceana Midway is.

I was really excited to learn about STR. I vaguely remember the original from when I was a kid, and this ride looks like an exciting new version of the log flume. The themes and imagery are pretty fitting for Frontier Town, just as they were for Maverick. I'm really pleased with how FT has been improving.
Now I have a hypothesis, and I haven't seen it mentioned yet. People have mentioned that the high price tag seems high. There have also been hints at theming and special effects that have yet to be announced, along with the emphasis on the "feuding" aspect. At first I thought "what, are they moving the old "feud" animatronics over from PWE?" But then I thought of something else...interaction. I remember seeing a water ride at some park that had water guns mounted in the cars. The riders could use them to spray people/targets along the path. Some of the people/targets shot back. Something like that could make this a more exciting and fun ride during the flat spots. It'd also be a new thing for CP.
Plus, it's called "Shoot" the Rapids...double entendre, anyone?
Anyone think this is a valid idea?
I hope that the water fall won't be like Maverick's, and end up being a fire hose spraying into nowhere.
I like the ride. I think that there is much more theming to come about and we (the real park lovers) will all be happy in the end.
Night everybody.

CGA will probably sell , but MIA definately ,DEFINATELY will not be sold . It has seen steady increases in attendance and revenue and has tremendous potential
^ I see what you are saying with Michagans Adventure but does anyone think they MIGHT get a B&M hyper for 2011? It is really lacking a steel coaster unlike Cedar Point who is lacking a wooden coaster.

That would be great but they might need to work the park up a little more first to make it worth while . I can see that park growing alot, but i suppose MIA discussion belongs on another site :-)
With an 85 ft, 45 degree drop, it should feel a little more intense than the Blue Streak. To me, that, along with getting somewhat wet will make it a very worthwhile ride.
I have an idea, how bout cedar point puts Shoot The Rapids in soak city and puts in a new flat ride or two in its place at cedar point? i mean soak city could use a new ride, it hasn't had one in like 20 years.

1) Maverick
^^Soak City could use a new slide, not a new ride. The new attraction at Cedar Point is just fine. I am looking forward to riding it. Aside from a quality dark ride, this is just what Cedar Point needed.
Oh and Soak City received a new attraction in 2004, so close to 20 years. Splash Zone has around 6 slides I think.
As long as Soak City continues to be crowded, I doubt they'll add anything to it. There's no reason to. It caters to resort guests and season pass holders.
I don't understand why it's so hard to believe the ride will cost what it does. Lots of excavation, lots of concrete and steel, the cost to modify wetlands (presumably), the ride system, water treatment and pumps, the buildings... all sounds right to me.
This announcement demonstrates more than ever that people (in the general sense) don't have the slightest understanding of how amusement parks make money or even fundamental business. I fear for our future. I thought the Internet would make the US smarter, but it appears to just give stupid people a louder voice.

Probably because the average person doesn't regularly contract out for massive engineering projects, concrete and steel construction and wetland modification. $10 million, $5 million, $20 million, they all sound plausible to me, and yet that's a pretty vast range of cost.
Ok that was not a serious suggestion. I just thought it was a funny idea, i mean it would go good in soak city since we mostly likely will be soaked on it. Plus soak city does need a new attraction. And Jeff i am not stupid. I understand how amusement parks run. I just really don't like this new attraction. I'm just voicing my displeasure.

I am a bit dissapointed that it is not a new coaster, but it still looks like a lot of fun! :) A good family ride is what Cedar Point needs right now, in my opinion.
"Shoot the Rapids is a water flume ride, not a roller coaster." Tony had said that over on the blog. So this is a flume, correct?

I do not understand why anyone would dislike this new ride so much. Sure be dissapointed, but why hate it? Everyone complained last year when Cedar Point didn't add any big rides. Now they add a ride and everyone complains.
There are still plenty of great coasters to ride at CP. Just because they didn't add a new one this year, doesn't mean the world is going to end.
If you don't like it, then don't ride it. The line will be shorter for the rest of us. :)
