hope you are reading this tony! you should have gotten A COASTER Like most of us wanted!
I'm not Tony, but no problem--cough up the extra $15m needed and they can switch to Maverick 2.

No but I feel that it will be a big FLOP Think It will be too cold to ride it for a GOOD 2 months of out of the season and not to mention that if we have a mild summer, then what? Ridership is not going to be that high unless we have a real good HOT summer and/or for the few people who want to ride it in the chillier months and risk getting sick.
Just like WWL was a flop for 20+ years and SRF is a flop now. Besides, if they install a valve or 2 on the waterfalls they can they can turn off the soaking on cold days.

I just dont get this ride. I dont think this can compare to WWL. How long was that ride? Longer than three minutes. It seemed a little more personal too. Four people to a boat, just floating along. To me, this ride looks like SRF with a second drop.
Did anyone else notice that? This ride makes SRF redundant. Any bets on what will replace SRF in a couple of years? I think the only coaster they could shoehorn onto SRF's footprint is a Dive Machine.
Off on a tangent--How does an aquatrax differ from the 2nd half of Maverick?

now that CP has their new shiny water ride, do they do major (or even minor) renovations on the Mean Streak? Rumor has it that GCI people were sighted by the coaster. Do you think CP will actually go through with making it better now that they aren't building a coaster?
Depends on what the ROR is. I would vote to replace it with the Big Dipper or Raging Wolf Bobs from GL, (or, if it hadn't already been scrapped, Villain) but that would have crap ROR, even though all are better coasters to ride.

CGA will probably sell , but MIA definately ,DEFINATELY will not be sold . It has seen steady increases in attendance and revenue and has tremendous potential
Not really. The population near MiA is limited, which will limit attendance. Although I doubt CF will ever sell it.

^ I see what you are saying with Michagans Adventure but does anyone think they MIGHT get a B&M hyper for 2011? It is really lacking a steel coaster unlike Cedar Point who is lacking a wooden coaster.
No. MiA draws 500,000 or so per year. A $20m+ coaster doesn't work economically. If CF had not closed Geauga Lake, MiA would not have an invert. As of the year before the acquistion of PP, CF reported that MiA had revenue of $19m.(Cash Flow would be less)
Cedar Point $210 mil
Knott's Berry Farm $186 mil
Dorney Park $56 mil
Valley Fair $36 mil
Worlds of Fun $35 mil
Geauga Lake $26 mil
Michigan's Adventure $19 mil
King's Island $108 mil
Canada's Wonderland $93 mil
King's Dominion $81 mil
Great America (CA) $63 mil
Carowinds $60 mil

To all the kids who feel cheated that CP is getting a flume instead of a coaster, what are you going to do if in 2011 CP gets a..... GASP ...... dark ride?
CP is an amusement park/resort for the entire family, not a "coaster park". Shoot The Rapids is exactly the kind of ride they should put in. I've noticed a lot of people calling the park a "coaster park" in recent years, which tells me they lost their way a bit in the rides they installed. STR is a great step in fixing that perception.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I don't get how so many can not like the ride...without even riding it yet. It's like saying you don't like a certain food without tasting it first..or saying a movie is bad based on previews alone when the movie can be actually really good. I personally have no opinion on the ride at all...I'm waiting to ride to see if I like it or do not. I'm going to give it a chance before I decide if I will ride again.
11 years.
This look's like a fun ride. I was never expecting a roller coaster and was actually hoping for a WWL replacement. However, I do not feel this is a WWL replacement or a log flume replacement of any sort.
At every amusement park my family travels to, we always ride the log flume together. What a blast we had this year when my youngest daughter hit the 36 inch height mark and she could join us too!
The entire family together on a ride that's fun for everyone. Dad in the back of the boat with Mom and the 2 daughters (5 & 3) in front. That's it, no other people in the boat with us. Relaxing through the course of the ride, climbing the lift, relaxing more while the kids are anticipating the drop that's about to come. Then..."weeeeee!" We're all laughing and had a great time.
This is where I say: "Huh?" to calling it a Flume. This appears to me to be Snake River Falls x 2. If the ride height requirement for this ride is 48" I will be scratching my head till it's bald.

Anyone think that "Whyte Lightning" was the original name and it was scrapped for some reason. Maybe they're saving it for a coaster or they didn't want a family ride with an alcohol-inspired name??
I wonder if they will incorporate the old mill (next to the grist mill) in their exit or entrance. It would be cheap "theme-ing" and may even teach people something in the process.
I'm really just kinda confused/ticked at the EXTREME lack of theming. Then again a wooden tunnel and a few rocks go a long way at cp.
My sn is really dumb. just call me torrey
Hmmm...I wanted to love this new ride, but I'm just disappointed.
As much as I love roller coasters, I was perfectly content with CP getting a new family water ride and felt it was sorely needed. However, there were better options from Intamin imo, which is what drives me nuts. This seems far too conventional...I feel like I've already ridden it. I love Intamin and flumes, so it feels like I won the lottery....but then found out my ticket was for the wrong day. So close!
I will reserve further judgement until next May, but why didn't CP opt for Intamin's Reversing Boat Ride or AquaTrax. Either of these would have created much more excitement for me all winter and I'm sure many others. I really wanted a new, exciting experience that would be bumped into my top 5 favorite rides.
And let me clarify, I'm not pissed at the ride but just feel indifferent. What makes me sad is that a chunk of nice land was used up, and that it's a big investment. Therefore, we may not see another coaster for a few more years. Come May, maybe something will win me over with this ride though...it definitely has to be something not pictured in the animation.
Jeff pretty much nailed it a page or 2 back. I can already tell the lack of attention I will be putting into this thread here on out (sorry Walt). The shear amount of complaining and bickering is just not what I want to read when I get home from work. The same people (I'm not pointing fingers but some of you know who I'm talking about) are just going to be repeating the same comments, the same arguments, and the same utter nonsense for the next few months and I just don't want to bother reading it.
When people don't want to listen to the regulars who are the ones trying to keep things sane but they still don't listen.....well then what's the use? I might be over reacting but the conversation switch from the 2010 construction thread to this hardly improved in just the FIRST DAY!! So it's unlikely that it'll get any better in the months to come. So here's one regular who has had enough of this merry go round and will be getting off before he hurls.
Boy oh boy I cant wait for the off season.:)

I was at the park today. There is a sign posted directly accross from the barn. There is a picture of the layout and talks about the ride. I think this is in the location where the entrance will be.

Truthfully though, CP does encourage people to take this view through their marketing. "America's Roller Coast". "The Coaster Capital of the World". And I don't think any of the "Ride Warriors" are referring to riding the Caddilac Cars or the Carousel.

Wait, what? This use of land is right up there in efficiency with Skyhawk. They're laying it out in such a way that its nicely tucked in right behind SRF, and I'm not sure how the layout could be improved.
One thing I've been wondering is if there is a reason for the first drop being taller than the second (since this seems to fly in the face of what a thrill ride should do). Looking at the layout, its clear that the 85' drop requires a substantial runway at its bottom, so that lift hill-drop-splash down is the longest straight line required by the ride. Could they have laid the ride out in such a way as to have the 85' drop come last?
After digesting the attraction for a day, I'm concerned about the rider height requirement. If this thing turns out to be 48"+, its a bust. STR is just not nearly thrilling enough to be a "world class" water ride for big kids. If it does turn out to be 42"+, then its a great investment.

And the Samantha Brown commercial isn't targeting thrill seekers. Different ads target different groups. That's been the strategy for a long time.
Dj, that's the only complaint I'm having with StR is the possibility of the height requirement being 48". If it is, it's not a family ride. When Maverick was announced, it was announced as a family ride with a 48" height requirement. Once it got testing the requirement mysteriously bumped up to 52". I'm not saying that Maverick was a bad idea (quite the opposite!), but they ended up trading in another ride that the whole family could ride for something that could be ridden by ages 10 and up.
We're just going to have to wait and see, but to be honest I'm not very optimistic about it. This ride is going to be a foot or two taller than Snake River Falls, with that under consideration I can't really see how the height requirement would be less than 48".

With Cedar Point's track record, the waterfall will probably only function the first few months of the season and will then disappear never to be seen again.
To funny! It has been a long time since I have posted. Well my three babies have been grown up, and they finally get a updated flume/hybrid type ride. My oldest is a Senior and still remembers WWL. I think this will be a great addition to the Family / water ride lineup.

I don't think that's the intent. If you look close at this picture you can see the entrance and exit path both converge at the same point before crossing the Railroad. (Railroad is not in the picture) Tony already said the entrance will be near the Kettle Corn stand seen here.

1 - we'll have to see. I think there's a lot more to be added to this that isn't in the animation or renderings.
2 - its not even the same as SRF, so why wouldn't they keep both?

While I was a little shocked by the announcement, with all the marketing for the new attraction, I am still the most suprised about how short the layout of the ride seems to be. I understand the need for a family attraction, but I wish this ride would have incorporated some type of new flume technology or a more exciting layout. From the pictures on the CP website it seems like WWL was longer and had a more exciting layout.
