Bon Aire section and other exterior changes to Hotel Breakers

Definitely. I hope we get some good coverage of the work throughout the off-season. It could make for an interesting series of blog posts.

I'm actually pretty interested in seeing them tear apart the rotunda pool. As sad as it is to see it leave, it'll look more fresh with the main pool amenities at Breakers East pool. I'm still wishing for a nice rock hot tub like the one at the rotunda pool, as well as a place to order drinks and appetizers. But I know the entire hotel will look nice when it's finished regardless.

The lawn in front of the Rotunda will look very nice, though I hope they can replace that nice jacuzzi somewhere.

For those of you that follow CP Rundown on Facebook, it shows that the rotunda pool has already been removed and filled in.

They aren't wasting any time. I was there Monday morning and everything was still there, they had just started to move all of the pool area furniture and umbrellas out of the way.

We tried to walk up the boardwalk Tuesday evening to see what was in the works and instead of the detour on the actual beach, we chose to go thru the hotel. Mistake. Major out of the way, and you can't go out by Friday's either, which is what we wanted to do. The whole side parking area between the hotel and Challenge golf is also fenced off already.

Great pictures Pete, thanks for sharing.

I wonder how the main section rooms are going to look. Aren't those pretty tiny?

The rotunda rooms are very tiny, most without baths I think. They will take out walls and combine rooms, add bathrooms, etc. to make modern rooms.

Thanks for posting those pictures Pete. Although I'm sad to see everything go, I'm looking forward to newer amenities.

For posterity's sake, I snapped some photos around the hotel in early August while I was there for my annual visit. It's pretty shocking to see how quickly things have progressed when comparing Pete's photos to these:
8/2 - 8/3/2014 Main Pool
Rotunda Interior 8/3/2014

As I posted earlier in this thread, I found some old photos that my family took in 1981 around the same areas of the hotel. For kicks, I attempted to recreate a few of them:

Breakers beach rental building. Prior to looking at these, I hadn't noticed how far Lake Erie has receded. The water is still quite a bit behind me in the 2014 photo, but my parents were standing in the water when they took the 1981 photo. There is so much more beach now.

Also, I took a picture of this early 1900's Hotel Breakers postcard in Town Hall Museum. Judging from the renovation preview video, it seems that they the former pool area will look similar to its original design.

Great old photos! I never knew that the beach rental building was called the Polynesian Hut.

The beach rental building, or Polynesian Hut, used to be a food stand back in the day and they had a wooden shack on the beach that served as the rental building.

Quote from CP website:

"After October 13, 2014 only rooms in Breakers East will be available. The main lobby, pools/spas and restaurants (excluding Poolside Deli) will be closed."

Looks like renovations in the tower and Rotunda will beginning mid October.

And it also looks like a lot of guests will be forced to stay off property because I'm sure sandcastle and Lighthouse will be all booked because of Breakers not having a lot of availability. No early entry for the potential families, couples and friends that could have stayed in the towers section = shorter lines for Maverick and Millennium Force early entry = a happy someone (me) :)

Fine by me. Either way, a short early entry line is still a short early entry line.

The outdoor pool area off the rotunda and Beachs n Cream were my favorite areas of the hotel. I had a feeling they would disturb them so I took several pictures. Lots of memories and great times were had there over the years. I'm probably going to cry when I go back and see the renovations. It doesn't surprise me either that a Starbucks is showing up. Lol! I understand the revenue it generates, but for me it's completely unoriginal and nothing I would look forward to getting at the hotel.

^but a Perkins and TGIFridays is so original?

New for 2024- Wicked Twister Plus

I just looked at the pics Pete posted of the demo of the outdoor pool. I'm really saddened. Especially if they are not putting a pool back in that area off the rotunda.
