2008 New Employees

I guess it's the CP employee in me when I really wanted to tell the kid on the video to get down from the silver hand rail. :)

I remember reading somewhere that ride crews used be single gendered. I believe Magnum and Mantis were two of the female only rides.

I know Blue Streak used to be a guys only crew, mainly because of the skid brakes. Transferring on isn't all that easy, though. Those trains don't like to move up an incline easily, even with four people doing it. I find it funny how some of the guests can't believe what we just did when we transfer on and off. Its like we're superhuman or something. ;)

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

I forgot about Blue Streak's manual transfer track. I thought Corkscrew was bad. I'm guessing the MF and TTD are the same, but Maverick basically transfers on/off itself.

TTD can be a bit of a pain to transfer, just because it seems like the storage tracks were added as an afterthought. You have two storage tracks that each hold three trains. It's kinda dark down there at night, and hard to see anyway, so you need a spotter to tell you when a train is far enough down the storage track. This spotter then must remember to shut off the disconnects to the drive wheels under that train. Otherwise, that train'll start moving again when they try to put the next one one. All those fancy proxes along the storage track? Basically useless, they don't do anything. We have to eyeball the whole process.

It's kind of a tense process to judge it right, cause there's not a ton of extra room on the storage tracks...the trains have to be pretty close together. When it's been raining and the drive wheels are wet and slippery, it becomes a LOT more interesting.

You'll like Millennium's transfer track then... :)

I stand corrected. Just Maverick is easy to transfer. :)

Well as long as Raptor is easy to transfer that is all I care about!

Unlike Maverick, Millennium's transfer track and trains move at a tolerable rate. :) And actually, Millennium's and TTD's transfer systems are very different. And based on how Craig described TTD's process, I would say that Millennium's system is superior.

It's no Intamin, but it's not too bad... :)

^I had to do it in the pouring rain twice. Doug is right, while easy, it's not very quick.

I know Mean Streak still has a manual transfer, so does WildCat...those are bad.

B&M's have the easiest transfer systems of any coaster in my opinion. Everything is laid out very nicely, and it is very easy to understand and teach.

How many ride ops, security, and random workers to get a Wildcat car back on the transfer table? The world may never know. How many maintenance guys? One. :) Wildcat ride night anyone? ;)

Haha, you have to remember that there were about 5 or 6 maintenance guys over there, too...just one of them managed to get it back on the track. :)

How long does it usually take to get all your contract information after you have been hired in? I was told on Monday I got the job and I am now waiting for Background Checks to go through. I'm just getting anxious ;)

^ I called back a week after they said they were going to do a background check, and that was when I was told I was hired.

I was told that within the next 3 weeks (well, a little over 2 now) I would get my contract... I'm curious, too, though, as to when they usually show up.

Well I was told the background check takes 3-5 days to complete, I just wasn't sure how long after it would take to get my contract stuff.

I'm not sure if my background checks have gone though. Matt told me I should recieve my contract within several weeks.

2008- Magnum XL-200 Photo

I worked in ride photo for four seasons. Overall, I enjoyed it.

Basically, your responsibility is to sell photos to guests as they come off the ride. You also have to watch for any inappropriate photos and remove them from the display monitors. Another thing we did, I haven't really noticed if they do it anymore, was to spiel over a microphone as guests entered the booth. The spiel went something like this...

Welcome back Raptor riders! While you were riding, we took your picture, so come on in and check it out! It is important for you to know that your photo will only be available for the next few minutes and will not be available at anytime later today. If you would like to purchase this unique, one of a kind souvenir, step up to a cashier with your photo number, which is located in the top left hand corner of the screen. Thank you for riding the Raptor and enjoy the rest of your day here at Cedar Point, America's Roller Coast!

When your ride is down for mechanical reasons, weather, or whatever, you will spend some time cleaning in and around the photo booth. If the ride is down for an extended period of time, you'll usually be sent to another gift shop. That was a plus side of ride photo for me. I not only knew ride photo, but also learned all about working in gift shops.

Like pretty much all jobs at Cedar Point, you'll also have to answer a lot of guest questions. But, you also get to know your crew very well, not only in your photo booth, but all around the different photo locations.

Like I said, I did it for four seasons and really enjoyed it. If you have any other questions or want to know any other information, let me know and I hope you have a great summer!
