1- I'm not exactly sure how the hiring is done...
2- You'll work AT LEAST 60 hours/week in rides. The MOST I ever worked last season was 75 hours, and I knew a few people that broke 80 hours in one week... no overtime. Make sure to put any time off far in advance. Your location will probably have a time-off-request book. But you'll only get one day off a week, so if you're going to be needing multiple days off in a week, you have to get it contracted off, which means going to your department office and filling out the appropriate paperwork and/or mentioning it in your interview/application.
3- You'll get a break when it's possible to give you a break. There's really no set time, but expect to work about 3-4 hours in-between breaks. If you work all day (O-C shift) you'll get a 45, 30 and 15-minute break. Your TL might allow you to simply take two 45-minute breaks instead.
4- Your best bet is to mention what ride(s) you would like to work on during your interview. Your interviewer will ask if you prefer a fast or a slow-paced work environment. If you want to be on a coaster, say you prefer a fast pace, and say that you're not afraid of heights when you're asked. Basically, they'll put you where you're needed when you get there, but they'll try to put you somewhere you'll fit according to the questions you answered. If you want to work at a lot of different rides, then make it known to your TLs and Supervisors that you're interested. They'll always be asking for volunteers to go to a different ride for the day or the week. Just be careful, because sometimes a "temporary" move may become permanent.
5- I love working rides. I think that rides people tend to become much closer to their crews than any other department. It's not too had to get switched from department to department - I knew a lot of people that did it. *** Edited 12/9/2006 10:50:06 PM UTC by southpuddle***

I really want to work in rides, the other departments don't impress me very much. So my question is if you put rides as your first choice are you pretty much garunteed to be placed in rides?
For those who were hired in rides in the past what were your top three choices? I beleive you have to make three choices am I correct?
Well even though it is not hard to get into rides, its not guaranteed. Yes you are right that you have to make three different choices, and those three choices are whatever you would want to do if the worst case happened and you didn't get into rides. Like I said, you should not have much of a problem getting into rides.

From my experience, this is the way the interview process works. Once you submit your application. Your application is only available to your first choice department. After an initial 2-3 weeks your application becomes available to 2nd and 3rd choice. If none of the departments are interested in you, they will forward your application to all park-wide departments.

Going back to the pay issue... It looks like we should know for sure soon. The "Pay & Benefits" section of the website has become just "Benefits" and the "pay" page is missing all together.

^^^ What's that about Evian water, Ben? :)
I'd love to work at CP, but currently I'm unsure as to what I'm doing so no idea if I'll be able to... But if I find a way, I'll take it!
How does a department know if they are interested in you if they have not even talked to you. Do they go by what you write down?
The base rate for park rides ops next year is 6.85
Rated the most attractive male crew member of TTD 2006...my life is complete
JPS, it's pretty safe to say, that one of your top 3 choice departments will be interested. However, the Hiring managers do look at your work history, and may check some references. ( I know this from personal experience). Usually, if none of your top 3 are interested, Housekeeping will jump on your application because they are always hard up for employees. (Who wants to work at Cedar Point in housekeeping?) Keep asking questions. I'm more than willing to answer them.
