How hard is it to actually get a job at CedarPoint? I'm way uber excited to work there if i get the job. i've been looking forward to this next season for a LONG time.

Well as long as you meet the requirements getting a job at CP shouldn't be too much of a problem for you. What department are you looking to work in?

what are the requirements? i plan on being there hopefully from may until sept. I've had a passion for rollercoasters for as long as i can remember. some might even call it an obsession. :) so ride ops. but honestly, just working in the park would make me happy. but i do have some things i wouldn't be able to do, garden work and such.

Haha... you have to be able to breathe... and if you want to work in rides you have to be 18 (or turning 18 some time that you're working that season, I believe)... and you have to complete the application and give a somewhat decent interview. That's about it. They're not too picky. When you're hiring literally thousands of employees in a relatively very short amount of time, you can't be too picky :)

i'm 19, so i have no worries there. I'm not picky at all, but i can't stand little kids. I think that is my only limitation.

Well, you will be dealing with little kids at some point at any ride you work in the entire park, but if you wish to deal with them on a limited basis, choose a big ride. But, I think you will find that little kids aren't all that bad to deal with at an amusement park. They are so excited to be there it makes the days spent on the smaller rides very fun.

Coaster Count: 147

I am also assuming that you graduated high school, because you need to have done that in order to stay in Cedar Point housing. Other than that just keep a look out for the 2007 applications to come out.

yeah, i know i'll have to deal with little kids at some point, i'll get over it. lol. yeah, i graduated on 05' so i'm set on that! :) the days are slooowly counting down.....

Ah the irony... I want to go to go to an engineering school to learn to design and build roller coasters. (Kettering in Flint, MI, probably)

Problem being that I would be unable to work at CP in the summer - school all year. Well, okay, three months co-op, three months work, repeat.

Yeah, I'm 14, but I have to be looking forward if I wish to not end up like my mom... 43 and working at Wal-Mart :)

What am I to do!

^ Work at CP for at least one summer. You have the rest of your life to go to school and you're only young once... and you'll have the time of your life. If you can really only spare one summer in your life, I'd say wait till you're 18 and graduated so you can live in CP housing to get the full experience. But that's just me.

Cause I wasn't allowed to! I did ask once if I could be the one to go and they said no :(

I asked if I could work though my Split somewhere else and they said No. :(

I did get to work Millennium one Saturday and Chaos the last day, though.

How hot is it during the summer? and how humid? is it tolerable? i'm coming from seattle washington, and that is the one thing that is kinda making me hesitate. I mean, if i get hired, i'm going either way. but also, does the park provide free water for the employees? what about bathroom breaks, lol. and is it pretty easy to meet people and make friends? or does anyone really have time for that, it seems like it is constantly working all the time. can someone who worked there give us a "day in the life of a CP employee" just so we know what to expect? Thanks.

There will be days where it is between 90 and 100 degrees and dewpoints between 65 and 75. It will be downright unbearable. If you don't like heat, make sure you stay in Commons dorms.

wow. ok. thanks. how difficult is it to get into the commons dorms?

There will usually be at least one open spot pretty much at all times at Commons. Keep in mind that there are people getting hired and fired and quitting and just beginning EVERY day of the season, so spots open up all the time. If you don't get into Commons when you first arrive, you should be able to within a few days of arrival. About the heat: I worked at CP last summer, and I'm from California - land of dry heat. There were days that it was pretty bad, and there were really nice days. Really, you'll get used to it. It's not like you're just gonna break down and start crying on platform. You have to supply your own water bottle and each ride location has a water cooler to fill up at, or you ca fill up with water and ice on your breaks. If you work an O-C (open to close shift), you'll be there from about an hour before the park opens till about an hour after the park closes, and you get a 45-minute break, a 30-minute break and a 15-minute break. If you truly cannot handle the heat, it's not like you HAVE TO work on a ride. There's always the option to be asked to be transfered to merchandise and request an indoor location.

You'll have plenty of time to meet friends at CP. There is a vast amount of coaster geeks that work there, so you'll have plenty in common with a lot of people. If you like to party, then you're also in luck, because pretty much everyone at CP drinks and drinks and drinks. There's a bar called Louie's only a block away from Commons and you only have to be 19 years old to get in. You'll probably spend a lot of your free time there :) There are 5 very common shifts that you can expect too work every week: O-C, O-6, O-8, 1:30-C, 11:30-C (O=open, C=close). A day in my life over the summer? Wake up 10 minutes before I have to leave, find someone that I knew that had a car or take the bus to work, work my shift, and then either hang out at someone's room or go to Louie's that night. You'll be tired a lot, but it'll be a blast *** Edited 11/27/2006 9:21:06 AM UTC by southpuddle***

I'm WAAAY excited. I think that I'll be able to handle the heat, but here in seattle where it rains a LOT, at least 8 months out of the year.....oh well. WATER!

I've read a lot about this louie's place. 19 you say? is that just to get in? or is that to drink? how strict are they on drinking? can you drink in the dorm rooms?

also, the showers, on the CP site, it says common bathrooms. does that mean open area showering? like in a sports lockerroom? or are they private? if one has to deal, then one has to deal. but are these housing places pretty nice? there aren't any pics online.

People underage drink all the time, and get caught for it all the time. Many others get away with it.

The showers in Commons aren't bad, as they are individual stalls such as at a campground typically would be. The cedars, however, are more 'open' from what I hear.

19 to get into Louie's, 21 to drink. You'll get a hand stamp identifying your age when you enter. But everyone drinks at Louie's. Be careful and don't do anything stupid while walking back to Commons because there will be security guards there at the check-in gate. Alcohol is allowed in the dorm rooms. People do get caught for underage drinking all the time. Not sure exactly what the punishment is.

The housing? You get what you pay for... and you're not paying much. If you have clean roommates then your room can be really nice. I saw some pretty cool rooms that people decked out. My roommate and I came from California, so we couldn't bring much in terms of decorations. If you have messy roommates... *** Edited 11/27/2006 5:47:55 PM UTC by southpuddle***

Like others have said to get into Louies it's 19 to get in and 21 to drink. If your underage you get NO stamped, and BIYC if your of age. Everyone drinks there, so just be careful with your drinks. Like the person above me said, don't act stupid when walking back to Commons. I found even if your walking with a big group back, split up and you won't be bothered. But as long as you don't act stupid you'll be fine. I don't know really what happens when you get caught. I know your tag gets pulled and you have to go in the next day to get it back from your manager. Punishment wise, I *think* it's a two step...

Housing however, if your expecting the Ritz, its far from it. I lived in Commons because I need a/c after a long day. You can either as for specific roommates, like if you and a friend or going, or get put into a room. I lived in the 1400 building and had two other roommates. One was dirty so his side was always a mess. I was hardly in my room though besides when I slept so it didn't bother me as long as his stuff never touched mine.

Really just go into CP with an open mind. Your going to meet tons of different people and make a lot of great friends. Yea there's drama but thats to be expected when you see people everyday of the week basically. I would say avoid it but its hard at times. Remember that the ride your on doesn't decide what type of summer your gonna have, it's the crew and everyone you meet. It's not hard to have a great summer really, but it is what you make of it!
