And why pour concrete over a soon-to-be construction site? ;)

The longer the demon drop spot goes on without short term fixups the better. I'd hate to see them pouring benches, tables, fountains, etc. and planting trees. If they are, indeed, going to put a major attraction in it's place, they probably wouldn't waste money and time building and planting just to turn around and rip it all down a year later.

If it's 70 or above and sunny on opening day, I'm gonna give this new ride a whirl! Assuming STR doesn't have a delay!

Get To The Point

I think there will at least be grass put where Demon Drop used to be, even if they will be pouring footers in September. That area is right at the front of the park and is many peoples first sight as they enter. I'm sure the first thing people want to see is a large dirt area ... unless it has a wall around it with a sign posted "Cedar Point's building for the future. Look out for more on what's new in 2011"

Awesome update! I dig the use of the water canons. A big draw for onlookers at Maverick is watching/hearing the water canons, being able to fire them on STR should be even better.

I don't know if this has been asked before, but is the tunnel receiving a roof, or is it remaining open like that?

Given that there's lighting inside, I'd bet the roof is coming. Installing it earlier would have only slowed work inside the tunnel.

Looks like they're testing the 'spray' at the bottom of the final drop.

The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

Regarding Demon Drop's plot, I'm a bit surprised they didn't even throw down a few benches or tables, since it seems like a rather nice area. Though doing so would require concrete pouring...

I think they want it to look like a construction zone.

Whether they are planning something for 2011 or not (my guess is they are, otherwise why remove DD now?), it creates a buzz as people are entering and exiting the park.

^ Even more so when they hang the "Coming 2011: Son of Raptor" sign on the fence in mid September.

Why in the hell would they want it to look like a construction zone?

It has already been confirmed that there will be grass planted on the site. I can't imagine too many guests will be "buzzing" about some grass.

I beg to differ... last time I was there, it smelled like there were more than a few guests getting buzzed on some grass...

I don't think they will invest much in the area this year if they will be putting a major attraction in soon. Just how low that bar is set (no trees? no benches? no grass?!) who knows, but it can't hurt the budget too bad to throw down a little grass seed.

On that note, is the confimation you're referring to DJ where Tony said "grass" will be in it's place on the blog? I think he was halfway kidding. Surely there will be some grass, but I don't think he was implying there is going to be some huge landscaping investment into the grass/area.

My first point was basically what you just reiterated - grass (a low-cost investment) is a good indicator that there are plans for the area, even if it's "only" for a new restaurant or whatever.

My second point was that they will not leave the site as seen in the recent blog. They will plant grass, and no, I certainly never implied doing so was any "huge" investment.

...to promote that something is being constructed (if, of course, that's the plan).

According to their facebook they should have the height requirement "very soon".

"For a tiny fee, you'll be in control of your friends' water-logged destiny."

I assume it's 25 cents. I've seen these at Michigan's Adventure as well. Do other parks outside of the Cedar Fair chain charge for these things? I know that Dollywood and Disney use them, but I'm not sure if they charge. Any insight?

Never saw them at Disney, but Universal has them on Ripsaw Falls. You deposit 50 cents and get to spray a log as it floats by (timing is critical). It is fun to see people's reactions, BUT the riders can get very soaked. They can disable them on cold days I believe.

I noticed they have started testing the water effects on the rocks. Gotta say I hope the pump will put out more than I'm seein' in the cam. Currently looks more like a trickling stream than rapids. We had more rapids water effect than that on the old STR.
