White Water Landing: Gone!

What I meant to say Raptorgrl is that it took them 2-3 months to see the whole tower rise. I should've been more specific...oh well.

What if we saw a Floorless come in with lots of inversions? It doesn't have to break records, if it does maybe 2, tallest and most inversions ever on a Floorless.

I am sad to see wwl go because it is the perfect family ride. My dad is terrified of heights, and coasters. When we went to SFWoA, there were not many rides that he wanted to go on. I could not believe it when HE dragged us on their ride similar to wwl. Besides for the first drop (which wasn't that big lol), he loved it.

He has only been to CP once. He thinks that it is a waste of his time because of the fact that there are so many big coasters and that he really doesn't ride anything...besides for a few things. Such as wwl. Now that is gone, and he will have barely anything to ride.

I am sure that this will be the same for a lot of other people that don't like coasters. They go to CP for the atmosphere and the few things that they can ride, and now it is taken away from them. So I reallllly hope that they put in something for people like my dad. Sorry for the rambling.

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

I remember being upset when Shoot the Rapids was removed and replaced by White Water Landing. We rode WWL on opening day, and I thought it was such a shame- Cedar Point had gone for a record by installing the world's longest hydro flume. They had cleared a lot of land, and the new ride sat in a mud pit with very little landscaping.

Fast forward to year 2000, or so, when I came to notice how nice WWL was. It was a fun ride, not too wet, and the landscaping had developed over the years turning that area of the park into a downright picturesque spot. WWL finally looks like it has been there forever, and C.P. has plans to remove it. Here we go again!

As for the replacement, maybe it will be the Screamin Swing. Maybe a spinning raft ride (hello, Astroworld?) Maybe it will be Silver Bullet, a huge B&M floorless. Whatever it is it, for me it will take some getting used to.

When I go next weekend I will be sure to ride.

I'm the oldest one here. CP emp '73-'74

All I would like to say is that stinks!!! Even though I like the thought of a new ride...... or so to speak "future improvements" *wink*

I have a question. What is a flume ride?

I'm wondering what the plan is in terms of razing the station, etc. The building itself was of a moderate size, I wonder if they will re-engineer any of it.

Hopefully this footprint of land will remain "frontier style" in theming regardless of what goes in next. The location of the loading platform was really nice with a direct view into the loading area from the path just behind the antique car ride. Maybe they'll use it. Although the unique platform wouldn't be much good for anything but another flume would it?

I'll really miss White Water Landing. I'd have rather seen Snake River Falls or Tunder Canyon go than see it go. It was a good ride because you could ride it without actually getting all that wet. It's one of my favorite (if not my favorite) non-coaster rides.

Does anyone know what was in WWL area before it was built? Pictures, if they are any would be cool too.

Sorry about that. I just looked at a couple of post and found out it was shoot the rapids. Does anyone have pics of it.

I agree with Shawn on this. This pretty much says that something else besides the swing is coming. Most likely the water coaster. I also agree that if a water coaster is coming, it would follow the same route as WWL. The water coaster would probably have something for the whole family and not be a tallest, fastest type of ride. No?

Jesz, a flume ride is what White Water Landing is. The Mill Race and Shoot the Rapids were also flume rides. The "track" that the boats on WWL travel on is a flume filled with water.

Prior to WWL, the aformentioned Shoot the Rapids occupied that space. It had a double-track drop.

A picture of the Mill Race can been seen here:

I just hope Frontier Town stays Frontier Town. It's the most (and basically only) themed part of the park. I love the trees and the old-time feel. Putting in a steel coaster of any kind, I think, would destroy that atmosphere.

I would love to see them put in a half dark/half outside state of the art flume ride. Perhaps the boats could travel inside for a while with some great inside animatronics and then drop out into the light of day. Make it the tallest flume ride "on the planet". Lots of seasoned wood, plants, waterfalls, etc. Maybe you'd ride through a haunted old western town or something. Something that would fit Frontier Town. I would hate to see a bright colored steel coaster or a swing ride there. Save that for the space they'll have when they sell Demon Drop and rip up some parking lot at the front of the park.

I wonder what they'll do with that cool looking model in the Town Hall Museum? ;)

I am extremely sad to see this ride go. I can't say any more about the ride itself, because I'll be upset.

But I _do_ echo the comments of other folks in this thread--please try to keep the trees and atmosphere--too many trees (and too much shade) have been removed throughout the rest of the park already.

(Oh my beloved Western Cruise......)

I disagree with the folks who say Cedar Point doesn't do theming well. Sure, DT and Magnum's unmaintained effect tunnels are an issue, but look at Frontier Town, the Mean Streak, the Mine Ride, and Frontier Trail. Those are still themed well, and CP worked hard to maintain what they could of the Trail when MF went in. WWL's station (and rock cave, when it still existed) fit in well with the area's look.

I most definitely hope that whatever goes back there preserves the well-themed, quiet, and family-friendly look of Frontier Town. *** Edited 10/14/2005 1:36:59 AM UTC by Western Cruiser***

I have to agree with Shawn; I really doubt they'd be clearing out WWL just for a Screamin' Swing. something bigger is going in as well, maybe not necessarily in '06, maybe '07. I really do hope it's a water coaster.

The water coaster might be a mistake unless they can figure out how to triple the capacity of the current ones. I rode Roller Soaker at Hershey when the line was pretty short ,yet it took over an hour. . I clocked Roller Soaker at about 300 PPH. It was so bad people were leaving line upset, and the line wasn't even that long!

Most water coasters are not of the same design as that low capacity ride. Europa park in Germany has a pair of Mack water coasters that can handle much more than that:

http://www.rcdb.com/id1891.htm

They both look like very nice rides, and if they have two, obviously people like them! (Besides the fact that the park is OWNED by Mack, of course.)

I always thought a neat little "ghost town" themed attraction would be nice back there. It would compliment the skeletons on the train ride (and boat ride).

Once the theming/tunnels on WWL were removed, I knew this ride was history. CP would never spend the cash to add new theming to it. I too will miss WWL, but out with the old and in with the new. I can't wait to see what CP does with such a large area, an area that WWL didn't even fully take up. There was a lot of space between the ride. There will be more there than just a Screaming Swing. The wait begins.

I don't think CP has to replace it with a water coaster. Raptor replaced the Mill Race and I wouldn't call Raptor a family coaster. Plus, don't you get soaked on a water coaster? Sorta like SRF, but just a longer track?

Btw, the one guy that said a steel coaster would destroy the look and feel of Fronteirtown must not know that the Mine Ride is a steel coaster. LOL!!

Since they removed the tunnels on WWL a while back, I'm sure something large than a swing is in the works here. But, like was also said, it can't be too huge, because the amount of work that would need to be done still is not really feasible for 06. Hell, SF Georgia is open way longer than CP and they're already building for 06.

The track is steel on the Mine Ride. The supports are wood. Just like the Gemini. (o:

I want to say more about what I said earlier. I think if we don't see a water coaster come in 2006, we'll probably see another Flume ride. Maybe something more up-to-date. For all we know, Cedar Point could just be doing this because the ride could be having some mechanical problems. Who knows, but I'm still sticking with what I said though that we could also see a water coaster with the screaming swing in 2006.
