I understand what your saying, Chief. Going higher alone won't attract a larger demographic. It will, however, increase the likelihood of people coming in who might otherwise only go every few years. It would also make people go more than once a season.
About TTD - I think that many people aren't interested in increasing their frequency of trips based on TTD. Its barely a roller coaster. It rolls on wheels, and coasts (very briefly), but beyond that, its more of a thrill ride. When many people think of roller coasters, they envision a lift hill, followed by more hills, turns and maybe some loops. To the casual observer, TTD might look like a gimmick. I love the ride, but to wait in line for 2 hours just for a few seconds of entertainment could seem absolutely silly to some. I also would much rather ride Maggie or MF.
I feel that CP will be putting more of an emphasis on family-friendly rides in the future, but they cannot forget that the park is the pinnacle of coaster parks. Besides, any plans they have for '07 have probably been in the works for a few years by now.

Really dosen't matter to me because I have never gotton around to riding it. Really should of this season.......... Oh well.

101 on Magnum and counting...
I hope that Dave is right. Among the three water rides back there, I've been on Thunder Canyon once (the year it opened) and to date I've still never been on Snake River Falls. White Water Landing I've been on probably a couple of times a year. It's the only ride that gets you "refreshingly wet" and not soaked. It would be a bummer to see it replaced by anything other than something similar.

One thing will be really funny...
When they finally decide to tear down DT, I'm sure we're going to see similar threads.
That will be funny, because almost everyone says (and I agree) that DT is a monstrosity and needs to go...but when it's finally torn down in the year 2123 people will be saying "that was a good family ride. It's a shame they're removing it."
:-)
I personally have not rode WWL in a long time (maybe 3+ years now). But I too liked it based on you weren't soaking wet when you got off. Just enough to "get you by" and then we would all run over to Wave Swinger to "air dry".
I hate to see it go, but just like the loss of Mill Race, something AWESOME was put in its place! Lets hope for the same with this new attraction, whatever it may be!
Cedar Point, Americas rip- rockin', high flyin', sky defyin', record breakin' roller coast
boo. im a sucker for log flumes and this was always one of my favorites. i rode it every trip.
I rode WWL for the first and only time in May of 2004, on a very cold day I might add. The park wasn't busy at all so 2 friends and I hit up all three water rides. So, I've ridden each water ride once and have no intentions of riding SRF or Thunder Canyon again. WWL I will ride for one last time when I'm a the park next weekend. I trust Cedar Point's judgement, they will treat us right.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
I think WWL should stay. It's nice to go on it to cool down and not get totally soaked and have to walk around all day with it. There is only one other park I know of in the midwest/east that doesn't have a flume ride - Conneaut Lake Park. All of the parks we have been to have flume rides. I think CP should concentrate on putting more family attractions instead of taking popular ones out. Get rid of the Mine Ride if you have to! Popular but not as fun as WWL. They always say they're not good at theming (e.g. Avalanche Run), but put some Snoopy themed attractions in. Snoopy's uber cool. They should also look into putting in maybe a dark ride. (Bring back the Pirate Ride - updated for 2006). Even one where you shoot targets like Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin at Disney, Scooby Doo and the Haunted House at PKI and Treasure Hunt at The Pavilion in Myrtle Beach, SC. They also all have excellent flume rides!!!! It isn't always about having the tallest/fastest stuff. And please CP quit cutting down the trees!

I can't think of one good reason why CP would consider building a 500' coaster anywhere in the next 7-10 besides the record
We all have our opinions and sources, hopefully mine wont let me down.

Holding a world-record attraction is a pretty good marketing point
Got to agree with that. *** Edited 10/13/2005 7:50:50 PM UTC by ejh1701***
Trip Count 2003: 13 2004: 24 2005: 22 2006: 25 2007: 25
I can't say whether I'm upset about this or not at this point. I have to wait and see what is going in its place. If another non-soaking type flume is put in its place, it will be great, kind of like an updated WWL. On the other hand, if the rumored Screamin Swing is put in its place (which I doubt and hope isn't true), I'll be upset.
Cedar Point rocks my socks.
Ok. If they are taking out WWL, then it's a lock that we are getting a water coaster or flume ride in 06 or 07. They wouldnt take out a water ride that has good pph(people per hour) and that people have a lot of fun on. Water coaster is next I think. A record breaking one.
I don't care about records when it comes to family rides - just make the ride ENJOYABLE. Some nice, light theming and incorporate it nicely into the area.
And make the water change colors when I pee in it. ;)

I don't mind getting soaked by CLEAN water (ala Snake River Falls) but I'm not a big fan of smelling like Lake Erie Perch all day long ala Thunder Canyon.
If they did a couple more water attractions then I would be all for making that a bathing suit type area. I'd go in during the middle of a hot day, hit those attractions and get in some dry clothes to finish out my day in the park.

They could take out a few garbage cans, and people would still get upset.
"Crap! Now I have to walk a whole 10 feet farther down the midway to throw away my garbage! Thanks a lot, Cedar Point..." ;)
The water coaster might be a mistake unless they can figure out how to triple the capacity of the current ones. I rode Roller Soaker at Hershey when the line was pretty short ,yet it took over an hour. . I clocked Roller Soaker at about 300 PPH. It was so bad people were leaving line upset, and the line wasn't even that long!

WWL...you will be missed, one of the funniest rides at the park. I cant believe they are taking down thier most popular water ride. It was nice to get wet without having to be completely soaked!!! They better replace it with something GOOD...
This move is good. I too will miss White Water Landing, but we should look towards the future. I mean even if the Screaming Swing is built in WWL spot, you can still build something around it. There is like 30 acres or so that White Water Landing Sits on now, and I'm sure the Screaming Swing would probably take up 2 acres. If anyone has played Roller Coaster Tycoon before, you take out a ride that the people say I want to go on Something more thrilling for. Now you also have to look at, what will the guests want? In this case Cedar Point has never seen a Water Coaster and I still think we could see both a Screaming Swing and the water coaster come in 2006. We have to Trust Cedar Point in 2005 like we did in 1993. Raptor was built the next year and look how popular it is. Someone on page 2 said they would have to work at a unbelievable pace to build something like that in its place after this season. It can be done. Look at how fast Cedar Point put up Top Thrill Dragster. It took them maybe 2-3 months to build the whole structure. Monty Jasper always has a full construction crew when he is building something.
djDaemon said: Holding a world-record attraction is a pretty good marketing point(if done correctly - which CP didn't do with TTD), especially for CP.
True, but that does not meen there gonna keep going for the height and speed record, over and over again. Most likley whatever they build will hold some record, that is important at CP especially if it is a roller coaster. However I think it is silly to thnk they will go for the Height and Speed Record AGAIN. offer something new, they already have tall and fast rides. there are a lot more world records out there besides height and speed.
I don't mind getting soaked by CLEAN water (ala Snake River Falls) but I'm not a big fan of smelling like Lake Erie Perch all day long ala Thunder Canyon.
The trick to avoiding that smell all day is to ride TC first, then go ride SRF a time or two and stand on the bridge after. No fishy smell, just chlorine. ;)
It took them maybe 2-3 months to build the whole structure.
Uhm, try two years. The tower construction started in 2001, with the footers being built during the 2001-2002 off season. The tower itself started going up in Oct. 2002 if I remember my dates correctly.
If there is a new coaster in our future, they will probably follow the same pattern again.
And, in my opinion, I'm so over the record breaking thing. Build some fun stuff that is reliable. A coaster with lots more upside downs. We've got a good collection of out & backs, steel and wood, so that is why I'd rather have another ride with inversions.
Not that I have any say, but I'd love to see a spinning mouse similar to Primeval Whirl (AK at WDW) or a water coaster. Given CP's focus on bigger, faster, record breaking, etc. I'm probably not going to get my wish.

I laughed when I read this. The original speculation started out with WWL being removed, then 65 pages later was branched into Disaster Transport being removed to open into a lakefront resort with a Screamin Swing in the back =P
Oh well.
WWL...you will be missed, one of the funniest rides at the park. It was nice to get wet without having to be completely soaked!!! T
Pretty much sums it up. Getting wet but not soaked was great and amusing.
