White Water Landing: Gone!

I still can't believe they are removing this ride. There always seemed to be a long line to ride it. Even this year, it seemed to be quite popular. Doesn't make much sense to remove your only flume ride. These types of rides are popular with families and isn't it the consensus that CP needs to cater more to families? I only hope that whatever they have in store for that area is a family-oriented ride or attraction. I love a great coaster as much as the next guy but, as a CF unitholder, I would like CP to become a more well-rounded resort and not just a collection of high intensity thrill rides.

Not that I think this thread is warranted (see "T&T Teasing Us Again", or the new for '06 thread), I think CP can be trusted in its decision to remove WWL. They keep tabs on the ridership of all their rides, and have (lately) been responsive to customer opinion and perception. If they feel WWL would be missed to a large extent, then you can count on something with equal family-pleasing potential being added in the near future. I am a fan of WWL - haven't always ridden it on every trip, but thats just the American way of taking things for granted. ;) I'm sure CP will give us something new and fun for everyone when this is all said and done.

We'll keep the thread as a new discussion for those who want to talk about the ride and its removal.

Sad to see it go. This has been a recent favorite with our kids (now 4 & 5 years old) as we just able to get on it as a family this year. One ride that we were finally able to enjoy as a family. Quick on ride time, not soaking wet when you get off the ride.

Let's hope Cedar Point does not lose focus, again, on the smaller riders of the population and what makes the place a great family destination. Not everyone wants to see super-mega-giga-roller coasters.

Anyone else think that they will remove the Antique Cars as well?

Although I suspected WWL was history, I have to say it's the only water ride I actualy RIDE. It's the only one that will cool you off without soaking you, and even in cold weather is tolerable to ride. I don't recall the last time I rode SRF or Thunder Canyon, but I ride WWL on every trip.

I liked Mill Race and Shoot the Rapids for the same reasons.

I can say Frontier Town won't look the same with WWL gone. I certainly hope whatever they put in it's place fits the theme of the area.

This year has been a double blow to my kids. They were upset over losing Demon Drop and now WWL is going away as well. I am with the rest of you in hoping CP puts in another family attraction.

Sounds like they are preparing for that water-coaster that we didn't get this year. It would be stupid to remove White Water Landing unless they have another "wet but not too wet" attraction planned for the not-too-distant future.

Note that "not too distant future" doesn't necessarily mean 2006.

As a Cedar Fair employee, I'll watch what I say... but WWL is my favorite non-coaster ride at Cedar Point. I'm very sad to see it go!

Well, I think the lack of a water flume attraction leaves a serious void in an amusement park's lineup. This is actually one of the "family rides" that I think CP so sorely has little of.

So, what do they have up their sleeves? There are some great modern flume rides out there (Splash, Dudley Doo-Right) with new elements (backward fluming, rollercoaster like dips). Could Mr. Kinzel be going out next year with a one-two combo? Perhaps a water coaster intertwined with a new flume ride? I think there is enough space back there (and over Thunder Canyon) that something pretty significant can fill up.

Imagine an area of the park that is wet, wet, wet. A water coaster flying over Thunder Canyon (and riders soaking those in the rafts below). Water cannons placed along midways so non-riders can interact with riders. I think that an area like that (while only in my imagination) would be a blast for kids and adults of all ages and would be truly unique in the industry.

I feel disappointed with this news. When I did go for the first time at CP in 2003, I found WWL very enjoying and I ride it each time I am at the Point since that. It is one of the best flume ride (maybe with Great Escape's one which is partially indoor and includes some animatronics). Especially, I appreciate the length of this ride... more than 4 minutes, I believe. I know that WWL was not the first flume ride at Cedar Point. I believe that it was not the last, too.

Now, I am confident that Cedar Point takes this decision for a good reason. I guess that a new family and "wet but not too wet" ride is going to be built for 2006, a water roller coaster. It doesn't make sense to don't have a water roller coaster inside the Capital of roller coasters. And it would be easy to break a new world record in this category, since water roller coaster are not so numerous...

This hurts. I know its not a glamorous ride but it is part of the history of the backend of the park. I'm sure they will put something else in but I doubt it has the same charm (at least for me).

I do find it interesting that us "elder" members are sad about this news. I imagine the younger set is tickled to death to be rid of this stupid boring ride.

I agree with most everyone here, that Cedar Point needs some type of flume ride that doesn't soak the riders. Perhaps White Water Landing was just too much maintenance. If they were to put in a water coaster and a new flume ride (hopefully about the same lenth) that could be a really good combo. Although one feature I hope they have on a new one is the rotating floor.

If they put in a water coaster, I hope the ride can accomidate a large range of heights. That would be something that everone would enjoy.

I can't believe it. Come on now, build around it or something, don't totally take it down.

I loved everything about this ride, from its themeing to the final drop, and I am very sad to see it go. I think every park needs a log flume, and hopefully CP replaces it with something like a water coaster.

I always rode White Water Landing multiple times during each trip...it's so relaxing, and pretty unique -- a slow, up-high view of Frontiertown.

I didn't even think about the fact that it is the ONLY nice, family flume ride in the park...and it is sort of an "Amusement Park Staple," so I do think this will definitely leave a void unless it is improved upon in a replacement.

I am just glad that I am going to be at the park for five or six more days this season...and since I won't be riding Dragster, at least I can ride White Water Landing.

Hey, here's an idea...since it's White Water Landing's last year, and Dragster isn't going to be operating...open up WWL on Friday's! :) (I don't think it is...)

Are they crazy? This is the only water ride in the park that you can enjoy without having to wring out your clothes.

This is going to leave a big void in the park. I have lots of memories of this great ride, from working on the ride years ago.....to it being my favorate ride in the back of the park.

This is a type of ride that rounds out a parks attractions, and I dont think this is a very good move for the park. This is a ride that the whole family can enjoy together. Lets just hope the replace it with another flume ride.
