v6.0 Now testing

OK, it's not really "ready," but what the hell. You're now using an early beta of POP Forums v6.0. The first thing I should tell you is that it's a total rewrite... I mean there isn't a single line of recycled code because it's all written in .Net ("that's one degree of seperation," blah blah blah).

Because it has been rewritten from scratch, stuff just ain't gonna work. I appreciate your patience. First obvious thing is that the private messages, favs and e-mail notification don't work. I know. Signatures for IE users don't work. I know.

Have fun. :)

Oh, one thing that does work that I immediately find helpful, the "scroll to newest post" bounces you to the actual page that has the newest post. I like that feature already!

WOW! I like this Jeff. Very cool. I'm not sure if you saw this or not. Since you are still working on writing it. I noticed at the top it says "Favortie Toics."

It looks great. I'll have to break out Netscape for the signature then, that's ok. It'll be fun watching this develope. :)

Hmmm, well, I can't say whether I like or dislike it yet. It's different. The home page looks really different and will definitely take some time getting used to...dammit! no signature!...ok, guess i'll just have to make some thing up then.

I'm guessing the "Mark all as read" feature is on the way?

Private Messages?

Is that why the forums were off for a while this morning

Did you use VB.Net or C# for the new forums? Just a techie question...

It's already there, up in your tool bar.

Also... it is written in C#, not that you can see the code anyway because it's compiled. The favorite topics were in the old version, I just don't think anyone realized it. Private messages are those that only you (and the moderators) will be able to see.

Edit is broken when you fromat. I know. Most editing problems are on IE, so the others will be "safe."

Looks really good. Way to go, Jeff!

One thing I found missing, which I hope comes back, are the links next to the title on the main page to the individual pages for each topic, if the topic is more than one page long.

Yeah, they'll be there. Not to worry. ;)

Jeff.. am I the only person having a problem with Netscape remembering the login?

This is way faster then the previous version. Hope it's here to stay.

I just like the page numbers at the TOP of the page so i dont have to scroll all the way to the bottom to go to page 17 or whatever.

Cant wait for that one to make the jump to the 'Buzz....

So, Jeff, is the forum gonna stay "cpplace6" now or is it going to be "cpplace" again? I gotta decide whether I need to update my homepage or not... :)

Honestly, with the pending redesign, it won't be either one. ;)

Yes, this forum will be here to stay. The old one wasn't really slow, but this one is cranking out pages at 7/100th of a second. It's so damn fast that I might just add some of the things I wasn't going to for the sake of performance.

Microsoft haters (especially the Java people who have a problem with .Net) can kiss my white cheeks. I'm a believer at this point in the new platform.

Rob: It appears your problem is common with Netscape, but there doesn't appear to be any real solution. I explicitly instruct the browser to have the cookie persist, but if you look in Netscape 6.2's cookie manager, it says it will expire at the end of the session. Sounds like another outstanding coding effort by our friends at AOL.

Ok.. time to import my bookmarks to *gulp* IE and bite the bullet. This isn't the only site I'm on multiple times a day with constant problems. Be it remembering cookies or correct rendering. Thanks for the info..
