Things that need to go...

Nothing lasts forever. Bottom line, if it has ridership and is not a maintenance nightmare, it will stay. If the lines are short , replacement parts are hard to get and/or it stands in the way of expansion, it could go.

I hate when people say CP will not take anything out. Really, and how do you know that? Well, they have removed rides and they will continue. Cedar Fair dismantled two major coasters this year in Hercules and Orient Express. Something big will eventually go at CP...your kidding yourself if you think that is not the case. It may be next year, it may be 10 years from now, but it's going to happen.

If they take out DT, or Mean Streak, or Mine Ride, or whatever, don't loss sleep over it because we know whatever they put in it's place will be better.

I'm not losing sleep over my thoughts. The topic asked for thoughts, I gave my thoughts. :)

As much as I would hate to see White Water Landing go, its kinda nice to ride it inthe middle of the day just to get a little wet, if it were removed that would free up a ton of land. A nice Floorless, or Flyer, or whatever type of coaster could go right in there.......

In regards of Magnum XL's post -

Never in a million years would I ever say take out Wicked Twister. The ride's location is one of the most unique locations for any ride I know of. Wicked Twister is a very fun and intense ride and fits in very well with the suroundings.

Disaster Transport on the other hand doesn't really fit in anywhere in the park. With it being said that CP will take out a major ride within the next years to come I see Disaster Transport or White Water Landing to be the one. Looking at some pictures of Disaster Transport, CP could easly fit a ride into that area. Imagine a ride like delerium in DT's spot. That would be a great location for a ride like that. It will give riders a view of the lake, parking lot, the rest of the park. It would be great.

Mean Streak shouldn't be removed unless they have another giant wooden coaster to replace it with. I haven't had a bad ride on Mean Streak yet. It still thrills many people. Now if the park could get a new giant Intamin wooden coaster or a new giant twisted GCI in there it would be great. But I would hate to see Mean Streak go for a new B&M or any other steel coaster.

I think people should start getting used to the fact that Iron Dragon is going to be red and yellow now. It was red and grey for 17 years so I think CP has it set for at least another 17.

I agree that the location of TTD required a lot of great landscaping to be destroyed but try looking at what we got. TTD is without a doubt better than looking at some trees. If you want trees go to the Frontier Trail, CP won't ever take trees out of that area. The lights for TTD look great as they are. You can't see them really unless you're on the ride anyway.

When Raptor was built it require a few rides to be taken down. Would you say that CP should have kept Mill Race and shouldn't have built Raptor. This is a great example of what Cedar Point does when they take rides down, they always replace them with nice new rides.

Lee - I'm with causewaycruiser on Peanuts Playground. It might "seem" like a boring-nothing-to-do place to people without kids, but my kids love going there to play in the sand and use all the little digger and pulley toys. The nice big trees give the area shade. It really is relaxing for the parents... a nice break in the busy day.

That's the sad thing with alot of people here. They DON'T have kids so pretty much anything that is kid oriented seems like a waste of space to them.

MagnumXL to respond to your post, I don't think that CP should get rid of DT. It is a good small beginner coaster that new thrill seeekers can ride. CP does, however need to do something about the attempted theming. When DT first came out in 1990 I believe, there was a talking robot and different scenes throughout the ride that added to the experience. Now, you have 3D paint and its pretty dark for the entire ride. Maybe they could remove the building and covering, bringing back the origional avalance run. With Wicked Twister there now, I think it would be fun to have the ride open again. There is barely any theming anymore, and the building is somewhat of an eyesore.

With the laser screen, yea the location isn't the best, but it works for all the people that show up to watch the show. I know some rides do shutdown for the show, but its just Iron Dragon, WildCat, Dodgem and Mantis?? There really isn't a better place to have the show, unless they could have it on the beach somehow.

As for the antique cars, turnpike cars and cad cars, I wouldn't lose any sleep if one of them were to be removed. To me it seems kinda pointless to have the same ride in three different places. If the antiques were to be removed, CP could re-locate wave swinger and the old frontier town carousel housing, and put in a nice wood coaster there. But thats just my opinion.

Lee: we also visit PP on a semi-regular basis. My son (2 last season) loves it there. My daugther (4 last season) enjoyed it, but perhaps not quite as much. It is a great place for my wife and I to relax while the kids continue to burn steam.

We'll see how they like it at 5 and 3. I'm guessing the 5 year old won't be as enthusiastic, but the three year old will be.

It is an awesome sight (and feeling) to be riding Mantis approaching the top of the lift hill when the fireworks start going off. Anyone ever been at the very top when the last 3 big ones go off? I have and I can tell you that it is absolutely amazing. Thank you CP for keeping Mantis open!

Thats cool...i'll have to try that...though it may be tough. I really thought that they did close mantis for the show. Oh well, you learn something new everyday.

You know Avalanche run might look a lot better there. However I can't see how the ride itself would be better. You really are not moving that fast, and being able to see the turns coming would make the ride really boring. I know this because my dad hated AR and yet enjoys DT a hell of a lot more. I can see WWL going but I actually really like that ride. It's one of only a few rides I can really enjoy with my family. I can see one of the car rides going or moving to a different park. This hopefully will allow for either a coaster or a new family area. With that said I can see Peanuts Playground moving and an L shaped wooden coaster go there. Taking out Ocean Motion. I like Peanuts playground and all but I think a coaster there with a new updated playground somewhere else would do really well. But only the future will tell!

Lisa!! Peanuts Playground MUST stay. . .it's a great spot for surveys!! ;)

Space Spiral shuts down for the laser show as well... the lasers bounce off the tower, and that's not good. People actually are disappointed though.... all 38 of them or so 'cause spiral at night is beautiful :)

I think the Laser Show is perfect where it's at. If it were to be relocated, I would want it to go where coasterz restraunt is right in front of where guests usually sit which means they would have to close the restuarant a little earlier like around nine oclock. This would be cool because then you would be able ride rides like Iron Dragon at night which by the way is really cool if you can ride it before they close it. Also you would have a nice really fun ride on the CP&LE railroad.

Why not remove the screen and just do a big fireworks show. They could put 3-5 barges around the point and have them all synced to be firing to music being played along all the midways. The laser show isn't what it once was and the screen is just the most god-awful ugly thing to have right in the middle of the midway.

John

Yes, JuggaLotus, I think that placing 3-5 barges around the point and firing synced pyrotechnics into the sky would be a viable option.

Because that's a LOT cheaper than a computerized laser show that is ran (presumably) by a handful of people with (presumably) a lot less regulation than a full-fledged fireworks show.

Hmmm, surveys...I hadn't thought about that, Lance, but you're absolutely right!

Those are pretty much the thoughts that I assumed would occur about Peanuts' Playground. I always see families in there, especially to ride the train (or to pitch tennis balls at the Peanuts characters in the baseball scene ^_^ ), but I wasn't sure if it was a very popular destination. I didn't want any opinions about it from non-parents because I figured the general opinion would be "tear it down and build another coaster!"

Rides need to quit being removed. We have the most in the world for a reason, lets keep it that way. And as far as removing White Water Landing....Hell no! That's a classic ride that looks great in the heavy woods and besides, its the only log flume in the park. Thunder Canyon is also definately a keeper. The only ride that I wouldn't mind getting rid of is DT. It would be nice to leave the Frontier Trail untouched and leave it WOODED.
Why can't they just roll down the screen like the smaller projection screens? I know that I'll have a bunch of scientific people come up on me, but still, that would be a good solution.
