Things that need to go...

The title says it all. What, in your opinion, are some things at the Point that you think need to be removed forever from the park?

My list-

1. Disaster Transport - Not worth the space nor the eyesore it gives. If Wicked Twister was never built, a nice little woodie would do the trick right there to enhance the Boardwalk theme.

2. The Laser Screen - What can I say? Its ugly and looks extremely unnatural and out of place and it blocks the nice train station when walking up the midway.

3. Wicked Twister - This should have never been built in the first place...refer back to #1 on the list.

4. TTD - this shouldn't be removed, but the landscaping could have been much better. The trees should have stayed, which would have made the ride seem even faster and the lagoon should have NEVER been tampered with. In my opinion, TTD kind of overwhelmed the beautiful skyline.

Comments, ect...?

Disaster Transport is, no doubt, an eyesore. I like the idea of an indoor, space-themed roller coaster, but Disaster Transport just isn't nearly up to par.

The Laser Screen is indeed positioned in a poor spot; a poor spot for atmosphere but an excellent spot for its purpose. That open midway is just about the only place I see as being adequate to hold an audience for the show.

I love Top Thrill Dragster where it is, but I really cannot agree with you enough. I miss the trees. I really do. :( Our *peninsula* has got to be running out of room to build without disrupting too much of the beautiful surrounding environment.

The trees did indeed provide a cozy ambiance to that side of the park. We just have to look at the trade-off that resulted from their removal - a world class roller coaster. Not to mention, as far as I know, fewer Red-winged Blackbird attacks. ;-)

What if a branch were to fall as you're launching? That could kill someone.. Also you have to remember there's no way they could have kept the trees with that huge crane they had to bring in. The area there is just not big enough to construct something like Dragster without clearing the entire area first. I do miss the trees and while I'm sure some of them could have been saved, I think removing them was almost necessary.

1. I agree, that the laser screen thing was put in a bad spot, but where would a better place be??

2. Disaster Transport should be removed and a nice floorless or flyer can go in it's place and into the near by parking lot. But then again we don't want to become a Six Flags park. lol

3. White Water Landing, I have never ridden it and it just doesn't look to appealing. Everytime i go to CP it doesn't look to buzy. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't it been there since the late 70s or early 80s.

4. Paint Iron Dragon old colors. Iron Dragon and TTD look like the same ride from a distance. What will they do next, paint Blue Streak green and pink.

I agree that DT is a terrible ride ( even though it's the only air conditioned building in the park), and takes up space. That should be removed but as for WT, it deserves to stay where it is. I've ridden it a couple times and it packs a pretty good punch.(dont forget that it's the 3rd tallest coaster at 215ft, barely beating Magnum by 10 feet) removing it would be pointless because it's a good coaster to go on when the other coasters are an hour wait. I like to go on it whenever I get the chance. But yeah DT should be demolished....... what goes there I will leave up to you to decide.

1. I think DT is going to be there for years to come. While it's not thrilling or pleasing to some people, it a good beginner coaster for the younger ones.

2. The Laser Screen did block a great view, but not now. I'm referring to when the Giant Wheel was behind the train station and disscussed in this thread: http://www.guidetothepoint.com/cpplace.aspx?mode=thread&TopicID=13953

Does anyone else here like Disaster Transport? It's a nice break from the long lines on a hot day.

* 14th annual CP trip: 6/16/04-6/19/04
* Started riding Magnum at 7 yrs old and 48 inches!

My first ride on it was surprisingly fun. I've been chasing that buzz ever since. Riding with my newly-46" daugther should recapture some of the hoot-n-holler.
I like Disaster Transport man. Don't remove that ride!! Don't you guys know that ride still gets good amounts of people? I've seen that queue full before on long July, August days. Don't Remove Disaster Transport. What I would want to see go though is the restuarants next to Disaster Transport go. Everytime I go over there, there is nobody in that area. The employees are beggin people to come over there. Take those out along with the parking lot behind it and use it for a coaster. Another ride I don't think should stay is White Water Landing. I've only seen that ride busy on weekends or something like that. Other than that though, it doesn't get enough attention and removing it would be great amount for a Floorless coaster.

The "parking lot" behind the Spiral Concessions is where the delivery trucks enter to drop off food to Johnny Rockets and bring in the stuff for games. It's also close to the break area. I doubt they'd use that for a new ride. If they did they'd have to remove that whole section of games

You haven't been to that concession during lunch... it's crazy. Maybe their lines aren't 20 people deep... but isn't that a GOOD thing?!?

Well all the rides in mention can stay as far as im concerned. Oh and white water landing was huge when i worked at the point. Would hate to see it go. Trying to think of what could go, maybe the food stand under the iron dragon lift hill, its too crowded there anyway.
Get ride of Antique cars. There are the Turnpike cars and Cadillac cars in the fron anyways, and cadillac is in the shade also. In place of the Antique cars, put the laser screen there. It's dark in that area of the park anyways, and all the rides can then remain open during the show. So long as the screen is on the Snake River/Wave Swinger/Thunder Canyon side of that area.

Someone mentioned putting trees around Dragster. I couldn't agree more. It can be done very safely. First of all in the weather conditions Dragster can run, it would be next to nothing for a limb to fall and seriously injure someone. Probably 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. BUt if that kind of safety is a concerned, plant somewhat compact but still shady trees on the inner part of the track. Secondly, remove that awful light field. The park is not landing an airplane. I think the tower may actually look a little more spectacular with the lights mounted inside it. On the ground and halfway up. Ala Power Tower.

For disaster transport, I would do something a little different. I would remove the covering over the lift hill, and the cube, and the tube that procedes out of the cube to the next building. Provide a drain before that building. I think this would actually be a cool effect. Probably provide some great headchopping illusions. Plus it will be better looking next to Giant Wheel and Wicked Twister.

Thats all.

This question is directed more toward people with small children that they bring to the park ... What is your opinion of Peanuts' Playground? Do you actually spend any time there with your children when you visit, or do you ignore it in favor of Kiddy Kingdom and Camp Snoopy? Do you love it, or would you even notice if it disappeared?

The Laser Screen - I just don't get it. The show is so cheesy and odd, I wish I understood the attraction (this "show" closes down certain rides?). Its current position in front of the train station is unfortunate, to move it anywhere else in the park would be equally unfortunate.
Well Lee in reponse to you question I have to say that we do spend time in the Peanuts playground. My son just loves the train that goes around and is happy just running around and not having to stand in the those dreaded lines.Plus it gives mom and me some time to sit back and relax while the kids run.Of couse we do hit the other areas as well that just makes it a place to rest the old feet and wish I can ride dragster just once.

The trees should have stayed, which would have made the ride seem even faster and the lagoon should have NEVER been tampered with.

Try looking at an areial shot of before and after. There is litterally no other place in the park to place such a monster and if you hadn't "tampered" with the lagoon. You wouldn't be able to build.

I'm really surprised at how much complaining people do about this and that. Don't think about your safety as you launch and get hit in the head by even a twig at 120 mph because you want trees.

Coasters get painted.. deal with it.. I have yet to see the person walk up to a ride and say "I don't like the colors, I'm not going to ride."

If you do.. you have deeper issues you need to deal with than where the paid professionals at the park are placing laser screens or chosing coaster colors.

Well said, Rob. (missed ya at the last MI GameWorks gathering...)

But, I'd think keeping the Antique cars is a good thing. Just get rid of the other two and place a tight flyer there. :)

I own you!

Couldn't make it.. work obligations..

GOnan try and hit it up sometime soon. Just a little more of a hassle living in Sandusky now.
