^ - exactly. The best stories are the ones that are stupid people who HAPPEN to be at an amusement park.

I do that all the time, but not over meaningless amusement park trivia. If I got home from the park and told her that someone in line didn't know how fast Raptor's top speed was, she would laugh at me. Now, if I told her something like JuggaLotus' "1/4 hour = 25 minutes" story, then we'd both get a chuckle.
Eh, I don't know. I think we're belaboring the point. I agree that general idiocy is a lot funnier than mere ignorance of amusement parks. But by the same token, somebody thinking Cedar Point is next to an ocean is pretty freakin' funny.
My author website: mgrantroberts.com.
I don't think the Lake Erie = Ocean piece counts as not being nerdy enough. That one does fall into the short-bus category

You know, in this thread only one person critisized (sp?) someone for not knowing exactly how high a ride was, and that was the first person.
In the meanwhile, sit back and laugh at the multiple stories that are funny. :)
Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~
I'll flat out tell people on rides that Lake Erie is not the ocean. I agree with John. If you don't know what body of water you've traveled to visit, you've got bigger issues than me mocking you on a ride. LOL!!

JuggaLotus' is correct when he says that's not being nerdy enough. That falls into the other side, one of general stupidity. :) Laugh away at that. But if someone doesn't identify a coaster by its proper name, who cares?

If you read the thread again, you'll see non-stat examples that fall under the enthusiast category.
What's in this thread isn't the issue. This isn't the worst "stupid GP" thread we've had, but the point is that it's far from the first. It doesn't get any less lame with time.
I know Mark will vouch for me about a certian someone that was in Dragsters station on closing day that wasnt just stupid, but annoying. While he was an enthusiast (and a former employee of CP's sister park), he acted more like an enthusiass. It was funny just trying to avoid talking to him the whole day.
Sorry you had to sit next to him on the last train Mark.:)

That's not stupidity, that's the truth. Have you ever *seen* some of the executives' houses??

A couple of years ago, I was waiting in line for Wicked Twister. (the diving show was taking place). And I am sure a lot of you know you can see bits and pieces of the diving show from the line. Well a member of a family that was ahead of me asked "what are they doing in there" and another member of the family responded "that is the dolphin show". The rest of the family agreed.
I got stuck on gemini one paticular day. The trim breaks stopped my train. The young adults in front of me were trading stories about the park (all of them were false) they began talking about all of the people that have died at the park. If I recall correctly someone died on magnum, and someone died while riding TTD because they broke there neck when it launched.
Last year my wife and I were watching the Maverick construction. We were over by Mean Streak. Standing by the fence with the signs. A gentleman with a little girl pointed at maverick and said "do you know where the entrance for that ride is". I was not trying to be mean but I laughed at him. Then, simply told him it was not built yet.
Peace, Mikey
^ Clearly, you were wrong. The ride *was* obviously built, because it was in front of them. It just wasn't finished/operating yet.

Don't forget that both Demon Drop and Power Tower have scalped people.
And you should have pointed him toward the WWL queue (I think it was outside the fence). Or around next to Frontier Inn where the WWL station is.

I was in line for MF and one of the girls in front of me was bragging to her friends about how last time she came to CP she met some employees on their day off and hung out with them. She claimed they spent the whole day skipping the lines and getting directly on the rides. Then that night at 3:00 AM they went back into the park, fired up the rides and had their own private ride time.

Cedar Point did indeed used to have a dolphin show. I can understand why those who have not been to the park in quite a while could make this mistake. After all, the dolphin show was in the same area of the park before it was destroyed to make way WT and that midway area.

Are you sure he was not simply asking where the entrance was going to be? I have asked, and been asked this question several times while at the park. Even if his question was a described, it does not mean he was oblivious to the ride not being open.
Well, whaddya know. There is a Candy Mountain.
One time I was talking to my friend about Dragsters tower and how, if you look at it closely, you can see it sway. Well I told him it's suppose to do that and no sooner I said that a group of teenagers were behind us looking up and said "Man I can see it!! They better fix it before it falls down?" I laughed a little inside and went on my way.
While I find people that say things like that funny, I don’t find the people who crowd the stations funny. While Dragsters can’t really be helped if there's no one at the entrance, I refuse to stand by and watch Millenniums station go to heck. So whenever I'm in line and the station gets crowded because there's nobody manning the flow, I'll stop at the turnstile and allow the station to clear a little bit or until whoever was at the turnstile gets back from whatever they were doing. And if anyone gives my any lip, I just tell them I was told by a ride op to stop. I like seeing an organized station.:)

Well yea, i'm not saying they're not rich, but really, even since "Paramount" is in the name of the park, it's not like you're going to have a big, well known theme park and not have a lot of money. And a few minutes later, she was telling her friends that none of the rides there have brakes...you can't tell me thats not stupid :)
^ See, that still doesn't do anything for me. If something has "Paramount" in the name, not everyone relates "Paramount" to the movies. That is if anyone even cares to notice that part of the name.
I see what you're saying, but again it's probably something that only someone who is into amusement parks would pick up on.
