Stupid Things?

I have heard alot of stuff while waiting in line for coasters. When i was at Halloweekends 06 me and my cousin was on the train going past Maverick and heard these dudes say that Maverick was based on the movie Top Gun and the name was the name of a plane from the movie. I also heard a lady say that Force was at one time red and had a loop. Alot talk about Wicked Twisters track and beams moving and i say its pose to cause if they dont move they will break. I also saw and heard in the office just inside of the gates where you go to to make a complant or to check on stuff a guy griping that Top Thrill was broke down. The lady said that we are sorry its down but we cant help that and we have 15 other coasters that are working that you can ride. I have nothing against people who make a complant about something very important or about a safety thing but when you complan about a coaster being down i kinda wonder about that person.

SIGH...

One of the major reasons I stopped renewing my ACE membership was because of the constant bashing, and/or looking down upon people who may be misinformed.

People are excited to be at the park. They share that excitement with there friends. So what if they have incorrect facts? Really. At the end of the day, what does it matter?

We have all been quilty of stating incorrect facts in every aspect of our lives. I would venture to say that EVERY coaster enthusiast has stated an incorrect "fact" based on rumor, or has mispoke at least once in their coaster riding career. (I am sure Jeff and Walt would openly admit to this).

Personally, I think that this thread title, "Stupid things" is quite demeaning. It has an aura of egotism and ignorance, which is proven by many of you in your posts.

Well, whaddya know. There is a Candy Mountain.

Heck, as other posters here will attest, I generate one or two screwups a day. Incorrect memories, bad facts, with a sprinkling of bald-faced lies just to spice things up. ;)

Heard on the lift for Millenium Force: "I didn't think we were that close to the Atlantic Ocean."

Oh, another one of these "stupid GP" threads... Sigh...

Who cares what other people say amongst themselves. They didn't invite you into their conversation, and it's just creepy if you listen in and then speak up to correct them.

It's one thing to overhear someone's conversation and say something to them in passing about it - but it's totally another thing to listen to what someone's saying intently, compile their facts for them, and butt right in.

I've been at CP and intentionally talked loudly about mis-guided information and just noticed the ears perking up around me. I've even had a guy following me, hiding around corners and listening in on what my friend and I were saying. That's creepy as hell.

Wow, I'm surprised to hear opposition to this thread. But what we need to remember is that we aren't forced to read these threads. These threads are merely a person's opinion or experience. And while we may agree or disagree with one another's posts, we need to respect that they felt the information they were posting was interesting enough to share.

I'm surprised everyone missed Jeff's post above where he noted the original poster complained about stupid people, but spelled enthusiast, "enthusiest."

^ Oh, I didn't miss it. I just chose not to make him feel bad twice. :)

Well ive heard people say some weird things about CedarPoint, but not all people are cedarpoint fanatics and enthusiests, so just because someone says something stupid about it doesnt mean u should post a comment about it in threads, just maybe there not obsessed

Huh? This is the Internet, you don't post things and not expect people to question what you have to say.

People who "know better" annoy the crap out of me. Seriously, who cares? What do you gain by correcting some complete stranger about something as unimportant as the correct height of a ride?

For me atleast, it's not laughing at "that stupid average guy." I would never correct someone anyway.

I don't see how it's that wrong to laugh at things that common sense would tell you. (i.e. which is higher Corkscrew or Dragster)

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

I don't correct people, never will, but it's just funny to hear something like MF used to be red and have a loop..or when did they move Magnum and paint it blue? :)

Yeah, I didn't mean I really wanted to hit her, I was just saying it for dramatic effect. I know not everyone are coaster freaks like us but It is quite humurous.

^ Dramatic effect or not, it still made you sound like a tool.

I don't understand what the big brouhaha is about. If somebody says something loud enough for me to hear, when I'm not intentionally eavesdropping and they're aware of my presence, the words they utter go out into the air and into my brain. There they become my property, and I can do with them whatsoever I please. I bet the people condemning this thread never went home to their wife or girlfriend and said, "Hon, you'd never believe what this idiot said today."

It's not like we're identifying the people in question. (The ones making the stupid comments, that is.) Nobody gets hurt, no lawsuits are filed, and we get to share a little laugh. And of course it's a bit smug, and we get to feel superior for a second. So what. We're human.

Let me offer a counter-example. Say I go into a garage. Now I know less than nothing about car engines; I admit it freely and I don't care. It's the thing under the hood that gets me where I need to go. But say I explain to my mechanic what the problem is, and I use laughably wrong terms or point to the wrong piece of hardware. And say a third person happens to be present, and he overhears my idiocy, whereupon he promptly gets on the Internet and has a good laugh with his buddies on carbuzz.com. Do I care? No. Does it impact my life? Is anybody hurt? No. Am I beginning to sound like Donald Rumsfeld? Yes.

So I don't feel guilty about this little bit of sport we're indulging in.

^And yes mechanics do get a little laugh out of those that are not car "savy" on occasion.

When he typed his post, did he whine about stupidity and then promptly misspell "customer?"

A car geek (or Star Wars, or Disney, or computer, etc.) going online and doing this is just as lame as when coaster enthusiasts do it. I mean, you're essentially laughing at people for not being big enough nerds. HA HA HA - you thought Top Thrill Dragster was still the tallest coaster in the world - HA HA HA. Why is that funny?

"Hon, you'd never believe what this idiot said today."

I do that all the time, but not over meaningless amusement park trivia. If I got home from the park and told her that someone in line didn't know how fast Raptor's top speed was, she would laugh at me. Now, if I told her something like JuggaLotus' "1/4 hour = 25 minutes" story, then we'd both get a chuckle.
