I know that if an engineer makes a catastrophic failure such as this, people could die, and his job should be in limbo, rightly so.
How do you know that it is an "catastrophic" failure?
Maybe it has something to do with the computer system. We just don't know.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Except he didn't make a catstrophic failure.
A catastrophic failure would have been opening the ride despite testing having failed.
Instead, his testing has adequate and caught a problem (something that happens very regularly in engineering) before release of the product.
They have missed their deadline, something that I'm sure is hitting them both in the pocket book and public perception.
All in all, the engineering is going exactly how I would expect engineering for a one-off product to go.

The wrong boats does not equal a computer system failure. It equals a lack of discipline and work ethic of the engineers.

I'm glad another one of your over exaggerations came right after it was made fun of. Seems like thats all you do...someone says "Man this stinks" and you come in going "OH BOY! Better call the SWAT team".
No, I agree it stinks.
I disagree that many people are actually going to care or that there will be thousands of lawsuits or that, in the big scheme of things, it is really that big a deal.
That is where I and irrational idiots differ.
I never said anything about there being lawsuits filed by people (CP on the other hand...).
Just keep going with the over exaggerations and dismissing it as not a big deal because no one in here has engineered a ride.
No, that doesn't count. ;)

Who said I was talking about you? Quite an ego you have there.

I'm just saying Juggs, people have a right to be pissed with the 2 week delay. They have more so of a right to be pissed if it gets delayed again. Are there more important things in the world, certainly. It's not necessary to dismiss it because it's not, literally, the end of the world.
No...the end of the world is in 2012 ;)

Maybe someone can call the park and just ask if the ride will be operating.;)
That would be too easy ...I'm getting a good laugh out of this thread. Man a few of you would be really angry at Magic Mountain right now if you lived in the LA area they delayed there kiddie coaster for this summer till next year.
And I have the right to call that "pissiness" silly and inane. Most of the general public isn't going to know it was supposed to open, nor are most of them there to ride StR or do you forget the huge wave of anticipointment when it was announced?
Most people are going to walk by and go, "Oh, there's the new ride. Guess its not open yet" and continue on walking to Maverick, Millennium or any of the other 15 coasters.
They won't be angry, they won't be pissy, they'll be indifferent, like they are the rest of the time.

We have watched ride after ride from Intamin have issues, we are watching the birth of another maintenance whore, and we can't be upset?
Oh, you're certainly allowed to be upset. But that doesn't mean you can pigeonhole anyone that isn't as "homers". That's a personal insult to others, in case you're not aware.

I'm telling you, refunds and lawsuits will be galore tomorrow.

Who is in charge of keeping the project up to snuff at Cedar Point? That man needs to be fired. Along with any and all Intamin engineers.
Well, at least you're not overreacting or anything.

Actually, the PE would lose his professional license, and his job. But, since you know everything about everything, I'm sure you already knew that.

The Kansas City Hyatt disaster is a good example of a catastrophic engineering failure. Little amusement boats being the wrong size to properly go around a log flume course? Not so much.
The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

I kept telling them I have experience in NL and to let me help, but they wouldn't listen!!;)

I think that most of this "anger" doesn't necessarily come from the fact that the ride is not opening, but more so because we have been kept so out of the loop. The blog has been really silent about things this week, which leads me to believe that the park knew the ride was not going to open this weekend for some time.
I think most people are disappointed because we are constantly being thrown around. First it was opening weekend, then May 29th, and now who knows. Announcements continue to be made at the last second which is just getting annoying.
CP: just be honest with us and keep us updated on the ride's progress, don't wait until the last minute for updates.

I have been reading this message board since the beginning of PointBuzz but never posted, but this topic has be one of the funniest threads ever and is just too hard to pass up. It's funny to think that when StR was announced there was disappointment and now some weird rage that it's not opening exactly when CP thought it would. Wow, it will eventually open a couple weeks behind schedule, how will I survive.
A season has somewhere around 140 operating days, the useful life of a ride is probably around 40 years, which gives everyone around 5,600 days to ride. It's hard to believe that 20 days or so of the 5,600 days will create the sky to fall. If Raptor rules the sky at CP, then Shoot the Rapids slogan should be, "Shoot the Rapids, creates the sky to fall at CP."
It's absolutely pointless for people to get so wrapped up in something that's really not that big of a deal, to the point where it takes away from the fun. The ride will eventually open just as the sun will rise again tomorrow. If you don't believe this you can call 1-800-273-TALK, a free, 24-hour hotline available to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. Never be afraid or ashamed to seek help.
With posts like that. It's a shame you waited over 10 years to make your first one. Welcome aboard. :)
