There is some enforcement. There needs to be more. There are some people who use the designated areas, but more need too.
1. The number of smoking areas at Cedar Point in comparison to the size of the park is disgraceful. SEVEN??? There should be twice as many. Kennywood - a park a quarter the size of CP - has more designated smoking areas.
2. I'm not a fan of PA announcements ruining the park atmosphere. I'm also definitely not for kicking guests out of the park no questions asked for smoking, but for God's sake, at least post signs inside the park. The three small signs at each entrance to the park aren't cutting it. Anyone who thinks each park guest reads through the entire park map to find the two-sentence blurb about the smoking policy is dead wrong.
When the park makes more of an effort to handle smokers, and fixes the two above mentioned points, the employees will make more of an effort to enforce the policy as well.

But does CP have a park-wide PA system? I guess they could add a no-smoking track to the audio loop, but does that hit all parts of the park?
I heard them use the PA several times during the day that Nick Wallenda walked the Sky Ride cable to remind people of the event. I assume it hits every part of the park, since I even heard it along the beach and in Challenge Park.

If that is posted on the signs, and is well explained that you WILL be booted for smoking in non-designated areas (or more appropriately, in line), then I see no problem.
The big one to me is lines. The midways to me aren't as big of a deal (is it an annoyance, sure, but if you don't like it you also have the option of moving away). Once in line though, there isn't much a person can do to get away from a smoker. I would rather see them really enforce no smoking in lines before they try enforcing the smoking areas, but I've been saying that since the poorly planned policy was put in place.

Maybe we need billions, with giant flashing signs that say "Insert trash here, please!"
Actually I thought the park was as clean as usual again this year. I do agree with everyone the smoking in line is a bigger problem and should really be handled.

This is just a thing where Cedar Fair just needs to enforce the rules, I see this at all parks I go to. Basically one person sees a person do it without getting in trouble, so then they do it too.
Six flags new england had a huge banner right above the main entrance when you walk in the park as seen here...

It says, "smoking outside of designated smoking areas, is couse for immediate ejection from the park without a refund! No warnings"
Needless to say, I ran into very few smokers that day.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
you know just for a post like this i am gonna litter and when i see all you non smokers i am gonna blow-it into your face!!!!!
Yeah, be an a-hole. That really helps the situation, or the image of all smokers being a-holes.
Goodbye MrScott
John
I'm glad I quit too. But the anti-smoking nazi's are bigger a-holes than the smokers they are trying to "help".

I feel the same way about smokers. Most (not all), could give two craps about other people around them.
I am sick of all the "It's my right to smoke" crap. Well it's my right to take in clean air also. The world does not revolve around smokers.
Fact of the matter is that there are more and more people that stop smoking everyday, and the number of non smokers vastley outnumbers the number of smokers these days.
<End rant>
Ok.....I am off to Jersey to hit some parks now.

Majority of people don't smoke (though my guess is that the percentage of visitors to CP who smoke is higher than the percentage of the poplulation at large though still not a majority). But CP wants to be as inclusive at possible. Turning away smokers isn't something they want to do unless not doing so will cost them business. My guess is that vast majority of people do not care enough about smokers to stay away from the park because of them. And until significant numbers of folks stay away because of the lax smoking policy, I wouldn't expect the park to make a change. They will enforce the rules when someone calls their attention to it but not too forcefully.
There is a littering problem because people don't use the trash cans. They walk right by them and throw their trash anywhere they want thats not a trash can. I see it all the time.

Employees don't enforce the smoking ban because there is no reason to enforce it. Best case scenario you get an angry look from the guest. No supervisor is going to reward you for pissing off guests.
2007,2008 Ripcord
Currently I am a smoker here, but on that note I am a very respectful smoker. When I do smoke outside of bars or restaurants I make sure I am no where close to patrons coming inside. Also when there is not a ashtray present I do snuff out the butt and either put it in my pocket or find ashtray. As it is a pet peeve of mine when I see smokers just toes there butts on the ground. When driving I always use my ashtray in my truck and never pitch them out the window.
Yes there are rude smokers but on the contrary there are more courteous smokers. The worst people I cant stand are the ones that give you a evil look for smoking in the first place, especially the ones that give you a nasty look when I am smoking in my own truck waiting at a red light.
I have never once smoked in line at any parks I have visited as I think it is about as rude as you can get.

That is pretty much the reason I never told anyone to stop smoking in my days at Cedar Point or Kennywood. I'm sorry, but I was just a regular ol' lil employee, I wasn't going to go up to a total stranger and tell them what to do. That should be saved for the managers and security guards. I wasn't going to risk getting an attitude from someone or having their aggrivation be directed at me.
Ok, I was a sweep this year and I tried my damdest to tell ppl.. But its very hard to tell 50 ppl at one time.If guests cant read or listen to us when we tell them then its there fault!!! Blame it on each other not us!!! The authorities have also told ppl... We tell ppl and get told off at the same time. It may be a lil redundant cuz we are outside but if u are walking beside someone who is smokin its a lil annoyin. Dont worry employees have our own break areas and spots in them where we have to smoke. If there are ppl smokin tell them to put out there cigs politly cuz there is designated areas or tell an employee . Its not like we can control this all the time.... So chill if u cant stand it either dont come to the park cuz u know what is going to happen or stay clear of them if u see them just stand there and breathe it in..
