smoking and littering problem

i don't know if anyone else noticed but when i was at the point this summer i noticed a major smoking and littering problem. cedar point had designated smoking areas, but i noticed people smoking everywhere, even in line for rides such as maverick. i stood in line for maverick for at least an hour each time i rode it having to smell cigarette smoke the entire time. i also noticed people throwing their trash into the pond the line for maverick goes around like it was no big deal. i think cedar point should consider going completely non smoking or at least enforce their designated smoking areas. i noticed employees watching people smoke in areas they weren't suppose to be smoking and they didn't do anything to stop it. i don't know about any of you, but i can't stand the smell of the smoke and i hate to see people littering like that. i think cedar point needs to beef up security or have their employees enforce the rules better. what does everyone else think of this topic? has anyone else noticed this problem?

my fav. rides:
1) Top Thrill Dragster
1) M-Force
1) Maverick

I've seen people put their cigarettes out and walk 10 feet away and light back up again. It gets really bad during Halloweekends when you find a dim orange glow in front of you in the fog. As much as you tell people to stop...it will happen. Same as down at Disney, they have areas but if you need a smoke now, they will smoke now instead of waiting to reach an area for them.

I always see a lot of people smoking in the designated area, and then there are a handful of rude, inconsiderate people who will lite up anywhere. Until those people learn to have some respect and manners, the smoking problem will always exist.

Yea, The smoking is out of control.

It's almost like six flags and cedarpoint have switched places the last year.

When at cedarpoint, I am constantly dodging smokers on the midway and in the lines. The employies do nothing to enforce the rule.

I was walking right next to a smoker the last time I was at the park, and when he walked right in front of a superviser/manager, they did nothing.

I also noticed that there has been more litter than normal around the park this year.

Six flags even has there security guards walking around with the trash picker up thingies. I was totaly impressed and blown away at how clean six flags was this year compared to cedarpoint. This was not the case a few years ago.

Even the smoking at six flags was at a minimum.

It seems that cedarpoint is realy laxed in inforcing the polices in the park.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I was at the park on Wednesday and there was only 1 time during the entire day that I saw anyone light up outside of a designated smoking area. We were walking through frontier country and a guy and girl lit up walking right along side of us. (Guy - no shirt, untied shoes, sagging jean shorts, and backwards baseball hat with the size sticker still on the unbent bill, Girl - shorts 3 sizes too small being nice, and enough stuff in her hair that shes lucky the cigarette didn't turn her into a tiki torch.) They sped up just enough to walk one body lenght in front of us and then slowed down, smoke blowing right in our faces. We ended up stopping and waiting to get some distance between us so we didn't have to deal with it. While I was annoyed at that instance I would say that the basketballs around the park are a far bigger issue than the smoking is right now.

I think a lot of that has to do with some highly publicized cases of people being thrown out of their parks for smoking outside of designated areas. If people know they WILL be thrown out for violating the rules, it's pretty unlikely that they will break them.

This has been discussed to death here. And there are tons of threads, most of them closed.

I'm A smoker myself, and i can understand that the non smoker can't stand the smell but as for me i think thay should put more places for us to light up cause i really don't like to have to walk a mile to just have a cigarette!.
As for in the line OK granted it is wrong!!!but everyone has rights in this world-you do and i do,as for me i follow the rules and use the areas i don't like where there located cause there a mile apart from each other, and there are not enough of them.and when I'm in line i have a back up plan i use spit less tobacco,so you really can't pin the problem on all us smokers cause of a few bad apples!if these people are around you them move away from them don't just sit there and keep breathing it in.I can see if you are in line i really don't have a solution for that problem, but if you are out on the midway just move away it is just that simple,i remember when you could smoke anywhere in the park just not in line cause you were out side.just be thankful people are not smoking OTHER things in line like thay use to back in the day!!!!
I'm not trying to start any war between smokers and non smokers this is just my opinion....

Personally, I'd prefer people smoke "OTHER things" in line than cigarettes. Smells much better, and the second-hand smoke less harmful... even beneficial, if you suffer from glaucoma. :)

Brandon

I see your point on that!!!That is a Good one and you would get so relaxed that you would even for get you are in line and how scary the ride is gonna be.
and it would make the ride so much funner but if you smoke OTHER things the cops with throw you out and prosecute you!!!Now these days but I see your point!!!

I've noticed more smoking around the park. Many do stay inside of the smoking areas, but they drift outside. It's really bad by Joe Cool outside Camp Snoopy and by Panda. There seems to be a lot of smokers hanging out across from the restrooms next to Red Garter and Raptor (on the non-smoking side).

The other day the girl working the counter at Odds and Ends told two people that they had to go to the designated area to smoke. Props to her. I've seen several CP policemen direct smokers to the smoking area behind Giant Wheel.

I watched as group of people were smoking in front of Max Air. A cop came over to them and they bent down to put them out the cop said and I quote "You don't have to put them out, but, there is a smoking area over there" and he pointed to the one by Wicked Twister. He walked away and they stayed.

The employees and the cops don't care. Hell, even Blue Shirts don't seem to care as I have seen them walk by smokers several times and for the record. The signs around the park are not exactly in your face. So a lot park goers who smoke outside of designated areas are ignorant to the fact that Cedar Point has a policy and are not being rude.

I have noticed more smoking and butts on the ground as well. I have never understood why smokers think it is perfectly acceptable to throw butts on the ground like they don't consider it to be litter or something.

I don't think it is a case of not caring, I think he informed them that smoking is only allowed in the designated area and let them walk over there with their cigarettes. As long as they walk over to the smoking area and stay there, why make them waste a cigarette? A little kindness goes a long way, and I think the cop was correct in how the situation was handled.

I like to drink beer, but if I walked around throwing empty beer cans on the sidewalk someone would object. However, smokers think it is perfectly acceptable to toss their butts on the sidewalk.

Excactly!

They didn't walk over there, Pete. He walked away and they remained in their spot smoking. I should have included that.

Well, that is just the wrong thing for the cop to do.
