smoking and littering problem

Yea, The smoking is out of control.

It's almost like six flags and cedarpoint have switched places the last year.

When at cedarpoint, I am constantly dodging smokers on the midway and in the lines. The employies do nothing to enforce the rule.

I was walking right next to a smoker the last time I was at the park, and when he walked right in front of a superviser/manager, they did nothing.

I also noticed that there has been more litter than normal around the park this year.

Six flags even has there security guards walking around with the trash picker up thingies. I was totaly impressed and blown away at how clean six flags was this year compared to cedarpoint. This was not the case a few years ago.

Even the smoking at six flags was at a minimum.

It seems that cedarpoint is realy laxed in inforcing the polices in the park.

CP seemed the same as usual as far as cleanliness this year compared to any other year. Smoking is out of control and need to be enforced better, but what I don't understand is your constant complaining. All I see in your posts is complain, complain, complain.

That's probably because they laid off their sweeps.

I said it when Cedar Point announced the smoking areas. They should concentrate first on enforcing the rules they have (no smoking in line) before they start adding new ones. Once you get smoking in line handled, then push it to smoking areas.

It's easy to handle too. Get caught smoking in line, get tossed from the park. A few well publicized cases and people will learn not to smoke in line.

What?

I can't complain about something I see wrong? I am glad you pay that much attention to my posts. I like the park, but I am not gonna kiss it's ass all day long like some people on here do. If I see something wrong, I am going to point it out. If I see something nice, I will point that out too. Latley I have seen a lot more negative at the park than positive.

Fact is that smoking and litter is bad this year.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.

Smoking. Yes

Litter. No

I actually noticed more sweeps than usual at the park this year than any other year. I think CP was very clean this year. The only thing at CP that I think cosists of litter is the Maverick pond.

I spent yesterday at King's Island and now have a new appreciation for Cedar Point and the Sweeps.

Please remain in your seat until the ride comes to a complete and final stop.

"That's probably because they laid off their sweeps."

That was not the case at the six flags parks I have been to this year. I saw several sweeps walking around the parks in addition to the security guards and park management all picking up trash.

I have also seen managment at cedarpoint picking up trash as well, but not the security.

I have been to over 30 parks this year, and cedarfair parks are maybe in the middle of the pack when it comes to clean midways and empty garbage cans...here is just on of the examples i am talking about...

http://coasterbuzz.com/Forums/Thread/56090.aspx?id=779925

Busch, Disney, seaworld, holiday world, and yes....even six flags, have been cleaner then cedarfair parks have been this year. And of all the parks I have been to, cedarpoint and indiana beach are the worst when it comes to smoking.

When you actualy get out and visit as lots of other parks, you will see that cedarfair is not as great as some of you want to believe. Not saying it's a bad park chain, I am just saying that it is not the best of the best.

I have to agree with the smoking issue being completely out of hand. Was at park yesterday and can remember seeing at least 10 people smoking where they shouldnt.
I personally think CP needs to post clear and exact signs advising guests no smoking in the park and exactly where smoking is allowed. I also suggest they make random annoucements during the day advising of the no smoking rule, advising exactly where you can smoke and advising of possible eviction out of the park if they are smoking where they shouldnt,

Six Flags MM made this exact annoucement through out the day last week and I saw a bare minimum number of idiots still smoking elsewhere in the park. I was completely impressed--obviousely those work!

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

I doubt it's true, but when at six flags great america last week, they kept announcing that they were the "cleanest amusement park". The park is very clean, but I don't know where they get that claim from.

They were also making announcements about the no smoking policy, and it seemed to work because we did not see many people smoking outside of the smoking areas. A lot less than what we see at cedarpoint on any givin day.

thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts with me on this topic. i'm happy to know that i'm not the only one who noticed this smoking and littering problem at cedar point. i do think cedar point really needs to addres ths smoking problem as soon as possible and start enforcing their rules better.

my fav. rides:
1) Top Thrill Dragster
1) M-Force
1) Maverick

IMO, Cedar Point is not doing a good job making it known to the public about it's non-smoking policy. Some poeple may not even know about the policy. There's just not enough smoking areas, and some of the ones they do have are kind of 'hidden', making it hard for people to find or take notice of the smoking areas. I'm a smoker myself, and I like my right to smoke at an amusement park, I follow the posted rules, and do my part in keeping the smoking areas clean.

As for smoking in lines, those poeple should at least be kicked out of line when they get caught, no warning, no second chances. They should be told to put it out and get out.

My one and only trip to CP this year I did notice it wasn't as clean as it was in years past, and it wasn't that busy of a day. There seemed to be a lack of care by some employees.

I do think the smoking policy could be advertised to guests a little better than it has been. The signage for it is minimal, so I could see how it would be easy to miss. I can also understand why most seasonal employees are reluctant to enforce the policy. Most give up early in the year after a couple of nasty, threatening reactions from guests. I do agree with what was said a few posts ago, that people caught smoking in lines should be tossed out of the park. A few high publicity cases of this happening (you know the people thrown out would run and complain to the news stations) would go a long way in curbing it.

In regards to security people at Six Flags walking around with "butt pickers", I've seen similar things at other CF parks. At Carowinds last summer their security and maintenance people all carried butt pickers around the park with them. Supervisors and managers at CP usually carried them around last summer as well, although I haven't noticed it at all this year.

Saturday night just before closing my wife and me were sitting at a table outside of Raptor's entrance whating for our son when a man sits down at the same table, fine. A minute later he lights up a cigarette not 3 feet from my wife. There were a number of unoccupied tables he could have sat at instead, not to mention it was a non-smoking area. I wanted to say go to the smoking area, but we just got up. We were leaving the park in a minute anyway and the man didn't look like the type that would take too kindly to my advice. Not wanting to end a fine day on a sour note I just wimped out.

As far as cleanliness goes, I think the park is very clean as a whole. To me the cigarette butts are the biggest problem along with people leaving their garbage on the table after eating and a stray empty cup.

I just got back from Kings Island. Cedar Point has a lot to do.

Smoking announcements were made what seemed like every 20 minutes. They were loud and clear over the park P.A. system. The smoking areas are everywhere and most were shaded. We counted on the map last night and there are 12 not including the water park compared to the Point's 7? They also had much better cigarette butt collectors that I saw being emptied often.

Sweeps were all over the place and litter was nil. Kings Island in my opinion is way better than the Point when it comes to smoking and litter control.

Also, I enjoyed the atmosphere there much more than I do CP. But I can't blame CP, the terrain at Kings Island leaves a lot more to work with than the Point.

But does CP have a park-wide PA system? I guess they could add a no-smoking track to the audio loop, but does that hit all parts of the park?

They do have that, John, for emergency purposes. Go watch the Starlight Experience behind the scenes video.

Of course, CP's system sounds absolutely awful in many areas, so I'm not sure a "no smoking" announcement would even be worthwhile.

Haha, I was wondering the same thing when I went to Great American earlier this year...they had that announcement looping like every 15 minutes. And all the employees had shirts on boasting that the park was the cleanest amusement park as well...I have to say, going to Great America reminded me how much I love Cedar Point!

These announcements are all well and good, but I would quickly get tired of hearing that all day. What's up with our society that people actually need to be reminded of something every 15 minutes?

I will say that yesterday I saw a litter gitter go out of her way to approach a smoker on the midway and tell her she had to put it out. Somebody's trying to enforce the rules, at least.
