That's hard to say. But I don't think it needed as much planning as it would to build an entirely new ride.

Tony did say the 5 year plan changed. Maybe they switched around some things, so that ride aimed for thrill seekers will come another year.
Uh oh we have a Rougarou in the chat I have got to watch out so I don't get bitten by the wolf.

There was no insult, but go ahead and continue to set a wonderful example :)
It may not have been an insult but it sure was a rude way to go about voicing your opinion.
Be the good example instead of suggesting other people abide by good example.

I don't bite, I have been domesticated ;)
Ha-ha that's funny well that's good to hear about your domestication.

I think this is the ride aimed at thrill seekers.
Rougarou was trademarked in June, and McClure was quoted in July with the "ride targeting thrill seekers". It's safe to assume this has been in the works for at least 6-9 months, and the thrill ride that was teased.
More than the how and why- I really am interested in hearing the "when" behind the conversion. When did they decide to do it, how it came up as a possibility and the conversations between CP and B&M. I'm sure these questions will all be answered in the future.
I would LOVE a tunnel on the S curve approaching the mid-course brake.
Tilt-a-Whirl,
Just wishful thinking, but it would be exciting to have the entire MCBR and the curved incline before it get enclosed into a "mountain." Similar to the tunnel on the Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens. Then exit the tunnel at the end of the MCBR.
Looking at the pov footage, the breaks on the first drop appear to be no more. Also, the ride seems to run faster than through the MCBR. Furthermore, the lift hill seems to be much faster. I know that the animated pov is not an accurate representation of the ride, but I really hope that the floorless trains fly through the course much faster.
^ Yes!!!! Jason... Tony... You listening? I love the howl at the end of the teaser video. Hopefully that gets included. Would also be cool to have swampy creature-like frog/cricket noises coming from the woods. Mantis obliterated the lagoon feel of the area. The second half is built over plain dirt. Hopefully they add more foliage to this area to make it feel more "swampy".
I know this sounds crazy, but does anyone else keep watching the ride animation videos over and over again? It's almost like I've never been on the ride and I'm looking at the whole thing as an entirely new coaster. My wife is over my obsession.
The new converted coaster looks great. I see discussion on the 'noise factor'. I remember being told recently(can't remember who) that the noise from Mantis(and Raptor) was heightened by the closely knit track, and a open area foundation(blank space). Any truth to that?
Keep passing the fun along!
My guess is that this (Rougarou) is the ride that McClure mentioned earlier this season, but what if there is something else to follow that gets announced closing day. That would be incredibly unexpected and throw Cedar Point over top all the other announcements to date. But even if they don't which is incredibly likely, Rougarou is better than any flat ride we could have gotten even if it is the same layout as Mantis.
I personally think the loudest noise in the park comes from the loudspeakers inside Raptor's station. Their amp must go to 11.
I hope they redo the station at Mantis. I remember being in their a couple of times and it doesnt look to good.
You're going to get your wish! But probably not in the way you expected. To make it a floorless, they are going to have to redo the station to make a floor that comes up after the train parks, and then goes away right before it leaves.
Loving Maverick since 2007!
I worked as a Ride Operator on Dominator back in the Geauga Lake days. I seem to remember the track being somewhat lower than the station platform. It will certainly be interesting to see how major or minor the station changes have to be.
ALSO- I would wager that since they have already begun painting that there will be no sound dampening added to the supports our track.
