Record-breaking Siren’s Curse tilt coaster to lure Cedar Point thrill seekers in 2025

birdman:

So right at the top of the day, you'd eliminated the longest lines, and everything else was gravy and we could move at a more relaxed pace. To use Ouimet's parlance, I had a number of "best day ever"s that began that way. [/wistful nostalgia]

I definitely would echo that these were better times. Some of my best CP memories have come either with early morning ERT or the last hour or two of the night when they stayed open until 11 and people started to clear out and the crewmembers would be racing to see who could get done first and many rides like Magnum, Gemini, Raptor, etc would be basically walk on. Now they usually close earlier and frequently take a train off before closing. I'm sure it saves a tiny bit of cost, but at what price in terms of guest satisfaction?

Seems like the opposite of nobody goes there any more, its too crowded. There are guest satisfaction concerns because they either close or run fewer trains during times when so few people were there that rides were walk-ups.

I never understand the not running all trains in a day. How much can that really save? CP has usually been good about running all trains. Often when I find myself saying “boy they could use another train” they end up doing just that and I get stuck waiting for it to move onto the track. Some parks are awful in the multi train dept and I just don’t get it.

I have to echo the above; there is zero logic in not running all trains at most CP coasters. Since they have figured out which ones can comfortably handle just the two, there is no reason for the ones with three to run any less. I can remember a morning a few seasons ago that had a 20 minute hold for MF at roughly 1030AM so they could transfer the third train onto the circuit; like, why? Did you not expect one of the most popular rides in the park would actually be popular on that particular Saturday? (not a maintenance thing either, yellow was just sitting there)

This has happened at Maggie, GK, Mav & even Gemini in the last few years; I understand the operational reasons for removing a train during slow periods, but if you know you will need full capacity that next day then why waste the time taking one off (more hours for the park to pay for) just to put it right back on (wasted time for the guest) a few hours into the next day?

I can understand if this was a Thursday evening in late October-when the rides are super cranky when they wake up, the weather is questionable along with the expected crowds-but this was a weekend in June. Unless there is a specific maintenance issue, everything should be in service every day in the summer; otherwise we might as well be Six Flags.

Girl: "l want to ride that yellow one again... Twisted Wicker"
Me: "It's a roller coaster, not a broken clothes hamper."

Well, we technically are Six Flags now. And as annoying as IROC is, I really hope we don't take any bad operational habits from legacy Six Flags.

Keep in mind that even a coaster running three trains/max # of trains from O-C day in and day out will require trains to be transferred off each night for routine inspection, to clear block zones and because SOP does not allow/encourage the ride to be powered down with all three trains parked on the circuit.

To be truthful, from the hours of 11AM until 8 or 9PM, the park felt the same level of busy then as it does today. It's just that you felt like you were getting so much more "value" out of your day because rides were ready to go in the morning at opening time (or even before when they used to open the gates early) and they kept running them efficiently up until close.

I agree that taking a train off can make sense if you are sending a bunch of empty seats with every cycle, but I won't agree that taking a working train off when the line is "only 30 minutes" or something like that is good customer service.

The only ride I ever see them regularly take a train off around 6-7pm (on a 10pm close) is Rougarou. And that's only if it's a day where they are sending half empty trains regularly.

They'll also do it for Magnum, taking it from three to two, when they don't have the extra platform staffing to keep all three on.

Coastermania (which takes place June 6) is listing Siren's Curse as one of the coasters with perks available... if it is open by then.

As of now, nobody knows when this ride will open. There are still too many what ifs at this point.

Unofficial Rule of Ride Removals

You must announce removals in advance so people can get their last rides in, unless a major incident or malfunction prevents the ride from doing so.

This applies to roller coasters, flat rides, water rides, and so on.

Exceptions to this rule include upcharge attractions, waterpark rides, and rides that are effectively redundant within a park.

I’m hoping they’re just putting that disclaimer as a just in case. I really hope it’s open by June 15th man.

Hopefully they are confident like 70/30.

It's reassuring to see TT2 listed on the CM itinerary, a couple weeks (presumably) into its inspection.

Siren's Curse with ERT slots both in morning and night for CM. I can't recall any ride being scheduled to be open for both ERT sessions in the past. Looks like a great itinerary.

You think that means they’re pretty confident in it too? Obviously aside from the asterisk next to it

I would take it to mean that so far they are on schedule to have it open according to their timeline.

I noticed in the renders and videos of Siren's Curse, the sky is always dark and seems gloomy. I will be interested to see how that works out when the ride opens.

Unlike most coasters, Sirens Curse only operates during extreme weather.

According to our friend Peninsula of Thrills instagram track work is complete.

I'm sure CP is happy they're past this scope of work prior to opening day

According to social media (peninsula of thrills) the track is now a complete circuit! I understand that the part where it goes under the bridge needs work and I have no idea about progress of the station itself.

When do you all think it’s reasonable to expect testing ?

If my engineering experience is any indicator, if someone hits the yellow button the train will start running immediately.

Hopefully it’s in that shape. Cedar point dropped a new sirens curse video but it just shows how the tilt mechanism works and the safety involved.

Don' worry, it's not a Mickey mouse operation. Our heroes always survive. Precision engineering.
