Next Big Coaster

Tony usually wouldn't be the one to announce a new coaster.. That seems to be more a perk of being the GM. ;)

Several thoughts:

1) I don't get the dislike of CCMR. IMO, it's one of the most underrated coasters in the park. It's a fun coaster that the whole family can enjoy, and I even find it thrilling. I'd hate to see it torn down. I really do love it.

2) As much as I (and most of you) want a new dark ride, I feel like a new big project will be in the area by Cedar dorms before a new dark ride, unless this location is for a dark ride. Maybe I'm wrong but I see this area getting focused on next year, and maybe the year after.

3) Regarding the whole B&M giga/hyper coaster discussion...I think one would fit in perfectly, especially a hyper. Yes, the park has Millennium. Yes, the park has Magnum. But personally I find B&M hypers to be a COMPLETELY different ride experience from either of these existing coasters. I would absolutely love for the park to get a B&M hyper. It would be another much needed people eater and I find B&m hypers to be my favorite B&M coaster model.

DARK RIDE!!
Yes, the title is about next big coaster but, if CP has a "hole", it is not having a dark ride. Could they pull off a scarier version of the Haunted Mansion? That ride is an absolute classic. If CP wants to be the best amusement park in the world, IMO they need this.

One thing is for sure, whatever they add next should have overhead storage bins from the get go - just like they have on airplanes.

Perhaps this is the R&D that is already underway!

Will they have carry on bag fees for people who use the overhead storage bins? :)

After riding Diamondback for the first time a few weeks ago, i agree with what you said. What a great roller coaster! That was my favorite roller coaster at Kings Island! With those restraints, the airtime was crazy! I'd love for CP to put one in the park!

Maggie is way better than DB IMO..

I'll take ejector seat over any seat on DB that only gives floater air. Just remember though as I face it alot, repitition breeds content. KI used to be a great fun park that I went to maybe once or twice, now that I'm 45 min from there and 3hr away from CP, the roles are reversed.

I would absolutely love a Diamondback type ride. I love the nostalgia of Magnum and it's location but it's way too painful. The lap bars are borderline unbearable for me. The smoothness and the comfortability of Diamondback, Intimidator and Behemoth is second to known.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

So, based on all of the above comments, CP should have installed a hyper or giga instead of Gatekeeper?

It's not a both/and. Giga OR Dive machine. Giga OR new woodie. Giga OR [insert flavor of the year here]. A new giga or hyper means some type of coaster that is not built.

This Isn't A Hospital--It's An Insane Asylum!

So just because you build a giga or hyper means that you'll get nothing of the sort in the next 2 years, at the least? Well, I hate to say you're wrong, but you are. Look at Millie. Opened in 2000. Two years later, Wicked Twister; a hyper. A shuttle hyper, yes, but a hyper regardless. Then, the next year, Dragster, a strata. So, based on these 4 years alone, saying that the addition of GateKeeper eliminates the addition of any new large ride is completely false.

These discussions over arbitrary marketing terms are a little silly.

Jeff's right, as always.

Let's talk about what the coaster does specifically, instead of determining what Cedar Point is lacking based upon marketing terms conjured up to invoke a greater sense of scale and awe.

Why are we talking about Diamondback and Leviathan as if we don't have coasters that are similar right in our very own park?

Do they really give that much different of a ride experience to Magnum and Millennium to justify Cedar Point spending $25 million+ on it? I've been on Diamondback and I would venture to say no, not at all.

I hope people realize that 16 coasters is a ridiculous amount for one park. My wife and I about killed ourselves on opening day trying to get all 14 in in one day. That was something I was never able to do with my family growing up (even though we went all the time), and it was hard doing that in one day with just two.

My point is that I think we need to wait a few years before building a new one. I'd rather see a continued effort to spruce up the park and give it a bit of needed TLC. That would be money well spent, IMO.

As far as what I'd like to see as a new coaster at CP? I'd love to see CCMR removed for a newer, more maintenance-friendly version. A coaster that the entire family can ride with a similar "theme". Maybe a better version of Mystery Mine at Dollywood, or something like Goldstriker or Renegade; a tight, compact wooden coaster that the whole family can ride.

Dill, I'm sorry you stopped so soon. Let me continue:

Maverick 2007 (4 years after TTD)
Gatekeeper 2013 (6 years after Maverick)

Or some other numbers:

2003: 16 coasters in the park
2004: see above
2005: see above
2006: see above
2007: 17 coasters in the park
2008: see above
2009: see above
2010: see above
2011: see above
2012: 16 coasters in park, until DT closes, then 15
2013: back to 16
2014: see above

Based on the previous 10 years, it sure doesn't look like CP will be adding 3 coasters in 4 years. If CF spends $20m on a coaster at any park, that is $20m not being spent on another coaster.

Would you have preferred a Diamondback clone or Gatekeeper at CP? Because, based on the last 8 years CP would not build both--at least not within a 4-6 year period

Although they haven't in years, don't say it's impossible. They could do it again, and it's Cedar Point. Don't put anything past them.

Please be careful removing your overhead luggage as it may have shifted during the flight.

Flying coaster idea for B&M anybody?

Leave the hypercoaster alone

I'm expecting a dark ride/coaster similar to that in Canadas Wonderland. With Pipe Scream and ____ both marketed as fun coasters for the whole family, at America's Rockin' Roller Coast.

They should just enclose CCMR inside of a building. Ta Da! Dark ride.

I Don't in any way see how you could consider DiamondBack as your favorite ride at KI. Mine is Adventure Express. Nostalgia I guess. If you could still ride Racers backwards it would be my favorite. Even Vortex is different with all the inversions. Beast is the best ride there. Whatever their dark ride is called, that's fun. But Diamondback is lame compared to Magnum and Millenium.

There is no universe where Diamondback is lame.

Thank you.

Nor is there one where you can say Diamondback and Leviathan give identical ride experiences to Magnum or Millenium Force. Steel, tall, out and back-ish, ok, but there's enormous differences as well. I wouldn't complain if all four lived in my home park.
