I think we should convert the entire peninsula into an arboretum.
Finally, someone's on the right track.
Coaster Nuts, the platform inside the station rotated, not the entire station itself.

It seems as though they did slaughter a lot of trees. I am not nature freak or save the trees junky, but I really did enjoy going back there during a hot summer day and seeing something other then concrete, pavement, and steel.
Hopefully cp does invest in some nice Mature trees.

Hopefully whatever the ride layout is they are planting more trees again. I like looking at the trees back there in the back of the park. Now we're going to be riding Mean Streak this year and see a huge plot of empty space. Hopefully they make that fence big enough where you don't notice it as much. I'm thinking since the station is there, they could be planning their water coaster that has been rumored over the years. And Yes Adam I think I'm going to say that this is going to be a water coaster again....lol:)
They sure planted a lot of trees around TTD after they build the ride...
I guess it was for good reason since the ride goes 120 MPH and trees = Bird Flight 101.
"Huge plot of empty space", Shawn Meyer? Are you suggesting they removed EVERY tree from that area?
I doubt that very much.

They'll take out whatever tree they need to in order to get in the necessary machinery and leave the ones that won't pose any obstacle for the construction.
That's the jist of it.

Go look at pictures from when WWL first opened, there were very few trees then. I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
Didn't you hear? They're ripping the trees out, sending em to a sawmill, and we're getting a 600' woodie!

Maybe with all that cleared space they could build a new and improved WWL incorperated the old station in and around a new Dueling Flyer. Then they can put all the trees back for the tree lovers to sit under while they sit out the ride. I have seen the trees slowly disaper since the 60;s but i love the coaster veiws much more. I can go to the forest for the trees.

I'm not going to CP anymore. They're tree killers. How dare them knock down trees to build a new coaster. Don't they have enough? :)

Good People...have a look at the pictures of the park at Windows Live Local

You may need to move the window around a bit to get to the area in question. It looks from the Blog entries as if the railroad has probably been moved to run almost parallel to the perimeter road. They must be trying to squeeze out every available inch of land for whatever they are building. If a turnaround was going to be down near MF (past Thunder Canyon), it doesn't seem to me that they would need to move the railway. It seems more likely to make room for a sweeping turn towards the old Swan Boats pond.
Now try this exercise: open two browser windows, and use one to look at the old WWL site, and the other to look at Raptor. Switch between the two, and compare the available land and the Raptor footprint. You can try Mantis too, or even Gemini.
Now, I know there are probably some scale issues between the various photographs, but there just does not seem to be enough space in there for a really big (500ft) coaster. If its a dueling/racing ride, it is going to be a tight fit or a short one.
Of course, there also is a biggish expanse of concrete midway North of WWL, next to the railroad station that might not be there in 2007.
I'd be extremely interested to see an up-to-date aerial shot. Anyone got a Predator handy?
The CP&LE ride is going to have such a wonderful atmosphere...the view to your left, ladies and gentlemen, is of a paved road and a polluted lake. Please excuse the dead fish.

While I completely agree, I like how it seems that every tree except around 6 located near UR Dade were going to be "in the way." :)
I'll I can say is that I hope when whatever "it" is is done, they do some nice landscaping that will hopefully make the area look nice. It won't be anything like it was before, nor will it ever be, but atleast it'll be a start. *** Edited 2/24/2006 4:01:41 AM UTC by DBCP***

Since it's a Microsoft product, you need to use Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 or higher.
The correct Link for WWL:

The URL doesn't change as you scroll around, however if you click on "permalink" and copy it then you get the link for the current page.

They're trees....trees don't keep the GP happy. New coasters or thrill rides do. Most of you people complaining about the trees will be right there when the new ride opens waiting for your turn to ride. I'm almost positive they will plant more trees. It's not like they are killing off a whole habitat for construction.

Wrong. I use Mozilla Suite 1.8 Alpha 2 under HP-UX 11 and it works just fine for me. I guess you really do jump to conclusions. :)

My first thought when I found out they were keeping the WWL station was "Could they possibly use the old station for a new log flume ride and then also build another new ride (maybe a coaster) on the same site?" I'm probably crazy, but what does anyone else think?
I've heard that the size of the old WWL site is about 5 acres. How does that compare to the amount of land needed for CP's other coasters?
