New ride... place your bets!

A racer would double capacity just like adding 4 seats across would.
Or you could put an a duel Impulse with four across seating! Now, that's high capacity! :)

I know that this is on the other side from where construction is now, but there is some good space over here too.  I just hope whatever comes doesn't ruin the beach area from someday having an out and back woodie on it.

I stand corrected on the coded message. It is hard to keep things straight on such a packed thread. But to confirm Nemesis' post earlier- my girlfriend works in Challenge Park and they were told that the kiddy kingdom rides, aquatic stadium and the stadium arcade would be removed this winter. There was also a RUMOR in park op- no official word yet- that there would be a wooden coaster and a steel coaster. Also, there have been rumors for about 4 years that there wpould be an over the lake/water coaster. The force was not that coaster. The wooden coaster is rumored to go from the kiddy kingdom area to the lake behind the giant wheel, around the aquatic stadium area and back. Again this is only a rumor. The other thing is that IF those cement pads are going to be an impulse coaster, it would change the skyline from rounded curves across the lake- this was a concern with Vertigo too. Howeer they decided that the vertigo was thin enough that it matched the Ripcord area and did not stick out. Also just a thought, it was rumored that both coasters would be put in that area. This may be park op employee speculation though- but a impulse or a thrust air coaster would fit with a classic style wooden coaster that might go out over the lake.
On a side note. I have heard definite plans to try to get better lighting for the main midway so that it is not a dark midway anymore. We'll have to see in May if this is true.
Okay Jeff..you said someone already guessed it...now you cant tell us what type of coaster it would be..but you could tell us what person was right in guessing it..right?  : )  LOL

Also..Doesnt screamscape mention that the coaster will be the tallest ride in the park? Which would mean...it would have to be taller then the space spiral...(if i recall its somewhere around 330..dont know the specifics)  Seems to me a superman type coaster still seems the best bet.

I just remembered this.  Does anyone know if they are going to do that stuff with the fountain that didn't happen last year?

Yes, that is what Screamscape said. They also said that no exact height has be set. I don't understand that comment...

Interesting Flisk...I worked in Park Ops this past summer. Never heard a thing about kiddy kingdom...it is a somewhat unpopular area..but a wooden coaster in that area just doesn't seem very likely. I ,however, knowing what coaster is going in on the beach/oceana area, believe that a woodie could come as a shocker....a good marketing tool if you ask me...2 for 2002..only at Cedar Point!

still a good point though on the wooden coaster..

:) Yeah I worked in Park Services (which is part of park op for those who don't know) so we don't see the offices at Park op very often.  My girlfriend worked Challenge Park - (park op also)the kiddy kingdom thing and the two coasters came from her TL.  They also hear a lot of.... interesting Vertigo reports. :) But we will all be surprised when they announce it- well, all of us but the very few people who know about it.

Forcedude..did you mean you didnt understand my comment or screamscapes comment?  If you meant my comment.....Let me clarify..Screamscape says sources have told them that this new coaster would be the tallest ride at CP.  Which would mean (if what they heard is true) that the coaster would have to be over 330 feet. (to be taller then the space spiral)  From what they heard..and from what an employee told me at Cedar Point months ago..I am sticking with my guess that the new coaster will be a superman over the 330 foot mark, dual tracks.

No tohot2se, I wasn't talking about your comment because yes that's what screamscape says.  I was talking about how screamscape said the height wasn't set.  I didn't see how you could not have the height set when you go to build a coaster...
Isn't Screamscape the site that has said... drum-roll please...

We have inside sources that say Cedar Point is getting, in 2002 a:

Intamin wood
B&M Floorless
Dual track Thrust Air

(do I need to continue???)

Great Pics..ShiveringTim!! Thanks!

What about a possible combo between superman..and batman and robin the chiller?  Non circut coaster...shoot you out..over 100mph..through a barrel role or something..down the other end..to go through the coaster again backwards?

This thread is like the Energizer Bunny(TM) it keeps going, and going, and going...

600 posts...if only the new ride were contained a foot of vertical track for every post.

I got post 601!

Seriously though.....although this Impulse sounds nice, I guess I was expecting a little more....I love S:UE, but for CP, I didn't think  they would just settle for one.

I know it's CP though, and they do everything with style, so maybe they'll "jazz" it up a bit.  I hope this new ride has extremely high capacity....I'm talking Gemini capacity,  but I don't know how that would be possible.

-----------------

I am guessing that the Impulse will come for 2002, then for 2003 or 4 they will put a CCI or Intamin woodie over there also.  It really does make sense.  Unless it's being used completely for a queue, there has to be another reason why the stadium is being razed...  But I don't think they have the time left to build a big woodie for 02 now, do they?

I am a Cedar Point rides employee, I asked my supervisor about the new ride coming in and this is what I was told, It is going to be a Superman style ride, like they have a six flags Ohio, 400+ feet it's rumored. It was originally going to be called ballistic twister but after the Sept. 11 attacks they changed the name, which is why the press release has been pushed back. Well that's all I know....

I had a crazy idea that popped into my head not too long ago this morning.  CP has not released anything yet, and we are all saying Impulse.  What if CP is not putting in an Intamin Impulse, but is waiting to see the reactions of X, and is planning on putting in an Arrow Impulse-type coaster that has same idea as X.  I think that would be awesome.  I know that is somewhat contridictory to what has been said prior to this post.  An X-type coaster that is an Impulse would crank things up a notch for coasters.
