New for 2015

Just at the park last night, and once the light sprinkle started, my friend and I were the only ones on Mantis. I noticed that the back of Mantis's seats (the bar that holds it in) is painted bright purple (like Raptor). It looked a bit like fresh paint to me. It may have only been the lighting or the train we were in, but it didn't match the ride's color scheme (dark blue, red, gold). Am I crazy or could they have started to repaint?

Also, behind the bleachers where Wildcat was, I saw a circular booth-like object, with the initials 'CP' in old fashioned letters on it. I did not get a chance to climb up there to see what it was though. At first, I thought it was apart of the Beach Blast Event (which was great)! But it looked like the top of a very small carousel. I have no clue what it may be.

Ok then, what's going on with Mean Streak?? It was in this barrage of pics....they've been shutting this ride down early recently, no one rides it...something needs to be done with this ride! Mean Streak redone!!!!

Pretty sure that's for Luminosity.

Yeah, that's part of Luminosity. People dance or do acrobatic type stuff from it while hanging from the cable over the crowd and they spin slowly like a carousel.

That is the carousel for luminosity. The dancers hang from it while it spins in the air toward the stage

And if this is true then it looks like mantis will only have a new color scheme and possible new theming but will remain a standing coaster. So i no longer think that the floorless trains are coming any time soon.

The paint on Mantis's supports has faded to the point where it almost looks purple as it is. I thought the backs of the seats were that color already but hey... I only rode Mantis 3 times in the past 5 or 6 years.

Best part of that article..

"Bret Ulozas, the New Jersey regional representative for American Coaster Enthusiasts in Grand Prairie, Texas, said once you begin to exceed 4 G's of gravitational force, you start to see a safety concern."

Apparently being an ACE representative makes you a safety expert?

Ohh yeah, totally forgot. RCT and ACE membership makes EVERYONE an expert.

Anyone think this is tony saying no to the floorless idea??

Seems to me he's playing dumb so no one will think it will be transformed into a floorless, which it might not anymore since someone said they saw new paint on one of the trains.

^^^ Rob, ACE regional rep training must include industry-certified safety training amongst other criteria for making such uninformed statements. :)

^^ Tony's just saying that it is not a floorless coaster at the moment. He neither confirmed nor denied any future plans. He's sneaky like that.

So for anyone going out to the park in the next few days, I have a couple requests if you're able. If possible, could you confirm and possibly take pictures of these 3 areas of rumor?

1. Construction near Dragster. Where is it and what is it, if it's even true?

2. A portion of Point Pavilions is blocked off. Again, I'd like to know if this is a true claim, and if so, what is going on in this area.

3. Mantis. In particular, the new proposal that there is new paint on the trains. If so, this will easily (and unfortunately) disprove the floorless conversion, although a repaint/retheme is likely.

Thanks!

Not that it matters, but I've always thought Mantis was a dark shade of purple and yellow. It's dark blue and gold? hahaha

Well I might be colorblind... I had always thought that the supports on Mantis were purple and a few years ago I got into a discussion with someone who said they were originally blue and just faded. They pulled up some pictures where the supports do indeed look dark blue.

Anyway, what was the original color of the supports? I didn't think mantis was ever re-painted.

I dont know if they painted the whole thing but i remember that the rails were unpainted then they painted them a few years later. I dont know if they just painted the rails red or the entire coaster

If I were you guys I would take this easily, because it might have always been there and I have been to ignorant to notice it. But the colors did pop out more to me this time, and the bright purple looked fresh, so I honestly do not know. Can the next person to go to the point ride this and verify please?
