New for 2014

With them choosing a family to announce their plans I don't think their announcement will excite most members here. I don't know what they will do. But I would imagine that 1980s kiddieland and the old chaos area get a kiddie coaster in their place and they spotlight the renovations to the hotels in their sales pitches next year. I think that is what they need the most anyways. They don't compete with Kings Island, but they have to offer something more to children.

hello and good morning everyone. ok here is my train of thought ( feel free to derail it if needed) out of the past 4 times going to c.p. I noticed the basket ball area ( former chaos ) was not in use and seemed to have noticed small orange/red spots on the pavement. so my train of thought is that area is a midway, there is room there and well quite honestly if you look at the underside of walkways for all wheels extreme ( really showing age ) I say that is prime location for a new ride. again this is my train of thought and very well could be wrong[/quote

were the red/orange dots survey markings? and the basketball game and old chaos location is right behind he coliseum...

Many folks have mentioned Earthquake and Pirate which i would love to see revisited, but I also wouldn't mind a new take on the fun house. That place was very fun for me as a kid.

Indeed. Those who only knew Kid Arthur's Court don't know what they missed.

ok the orange/red dots my wife and I noticed shortly after the opening of the season. I'm not too sure if they are survey markings but to the best of my knowledge it very well could be. my wife and I go soo often we find ourselves walking around the park looking for hints to upcoming attractions ( such as the little flags in the tree area around frontier area ) and yes that area behind the coliseum is exactly where I am referring to. could be markers for water, electric, or just about anything. just my observations that make me wonder

Unless I misunderstood your post, the Colosseum is no where near Frontier Trail or Frontier Town .

Seems most of us are on the same page of the kind of attraction we'd like to see CP get. Hope we are not the only ones, and that CF is listening.

lol Jason I was just pointing out that with my many visits this season so far ( over 20 I think ) there are several things I have noticed in the park ( damn adhd gets me every ... oh look something shiny )

In reading the Shoot the Rapids thread and its history of problems and in light of the recent accident, plus the fact is has a higher ride height than anticipated, I'm wondering if they should just stick a fork in it.

Wouldn't it be cool if they did a family friendly Pirate Ride/flume on the Shoot the Rapids site a la Splash Mountain? They can pull out and spruce up the old animatronics for all I care (if they have them). It would be the best of both worlds. Splash Mountain is one of the neatest rides I've ever been on. I don't know how Pirates would fit into the Frontier image, though, but it would sure work with a water ride.

They can pour a bunch of money into a coaster but I think something like this would be a huge draw and worth the investment.

I loved the Pirate Ride, Earthquake (whose crystal ball wizard can still be seen at Boo Hill), and Upside Down Funhouse as a kid. Anyone of these would be great to revisit but I don't think it's going to happen. Those slides at the end of the funhouse were the best. I thought Kid Arthur's Court sucked even back then.
As for the orange/red dots in back of the Coliseum, I can see the queue line or extension of the Coliseum going back there for a new ride (if its going to be there), so yeah that's highly probable. Its one of the few areas I haven't checked out this year because of my distaste for those stupid basketball games. I'd be thrilled to see it taken out, there's other ones in the park anyhow. I gotta check that area next time. Maybe someone going soon can verify?

You know, I don't think it's totally the same. I remember the original wizard looking more sinister in the face than the one in the Boo Hill window. But the window doors are very similiar the way they open and closed at the beginning of the Earthquake. I wish someone would post some old photos or film from the inside of that ride.

Pirate Ride and Earthquake are my fav old CP rides, unfortunately, they are not coming back. Hopefully something new to ease the loss is around the corner though.

It'd be interesting to see them add on to the Coliseum in the back where Chaos was, primarily because it would be a good way to install an elevator and finally get the ballroom up to ADA compatibility. I feel like if they could use the ballroom much more as a proper venue than just for tours and proms and weddings, they would.

A person told me at the Fairgrounds that the new addition for this yr for Hallowekends is adding some new scare zone or haunted house in the pavilion. She works at CP.

When you visit CP, visit my Mill, est. 1835

Wrong thread guys.

The winning family was announced for the 2014 announcement and it said they announcement will be in the upcoming weeks :)

I imagine they'll want to announce as soon as they can once the filming is done. Even if they make them sign non-disclosures, I'm not sure how long a kid can be expected to keep a secret.

Well, just discovered that apparently Dorney Park had a splash mountain type of ride called Journey to the Center of the Earth (formerly Old Mill) which Cedar Fair promptly removed after purchasing. According to wiki:

"Dorney's new owner, Cedar Fair, razed it due to poor safety and liability issues. They wanted rides where the operator could see the riders at all times. It was a fire hazard due to its age."

Don't have much hopes of anything like this. I wonder how ever do the other parks manage these rides since CF finds it impossible or to even entertain the idea of a refurbishment/safety upgrade on an existing ride.

Well, it is the same color as the paint on the side of the boat on the old pirate ride......

Looks like an orange fingerprint. ;)

Jason

Why do they call it common sense, when it's so infrequently used?
