New for 2014

^^I get what you're saying, but Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is not a Pandora's Box (though I thought it could end up being one before Universal got a contract with KUKA). Harry Potter is a KUKA Robotic Arm basically, Pandora's box is a bit different and could even incorporate free falls and flips all while being on the same track...it's kind of hard to explain and the website posted above is the best way to explain it.

Coliseum? Yeah...please don't touch it.

Now if the Coliseum were to be home to a Pandoras Box what would happen to the arcade? Would it get a new in park home? Or would it just leave?

I would rather see a Flight Simulator in the Good Time theater over a Pandora's box. Although I wouldn't mind both.

everyone needs to lower your expectations. There is noway that they are going to be putting in what you guys are talking about as it would probably cost more than gatekeeper. If they get a dark ride it will probably be a sally corp shooter.

I'd think that the panoramic flight sim would be much cheaper than Gatekeeper. I honestly can't see one costing more than 5 million tops.

And if one were to go in Good Time they could use the pre staging area as a mission brief for the ride. Maybe reuse the name Disaster Transport and make the sim follow the same "story" as the coaster.

Well someone's getting a dark ride for 2014. The only good candidate at this point is Cedar Point.

Why do you say someone is getting a dark ride? I never said that CP isn't getting a dark ride but, it's not going to be a massive dark ride like people are thinking

Maybe it's just me but some of this stuff seems awfully complicated for the rider, I don't see myself enjoying a ride where I have to work for it or have to "choose my experience" either. Give me something nice to look at and/or make me feel transported a little or let me just laugh a little. Bottom line, they really need a ride that tots can ride, too, like Pirate Ride and Earthquake.

Sometimes I think what a shame about what they've ripped out. I'm not starting any debate but I think they really did have all that they needed and that includes the recent demise of Paddlewheel Boats in lieu of the dinosaurs upcharge.

I am not sure your definition of "Massive" but here is how Matt Ouimet described it on the Cedar Fair stockholder conference call August 8th 2013:

"innovative interactive dark ride that will set a new industry standard"

I don't think it is going to be a Cedar Point version of "It's a Small World" or something you have seen before. It will be something that blows your socks off.

I have faith in "The Matt"

I wouldn't say that. Knott's Berry Farm has a big building built for a dark ride that they could put a new one in sitting on site. I'd prefer Cedar Point get it because it is nearby, but I'm sure that a dark ride is in the plans for Knott's too.

I have to agree. Like I said, new unproven ride systems and technology are costly in the R&D department and in the maintenance department. They also come with lots of downtime while the bugs are getting worked out. Add to the fact how little development time a dark ride would've had since Matt came in just a short while ago and all this talk of Pandora's Box seems unrealistic. If, and that's a big IF, we get a dark ride next year, it's very unlikely you'll see anything too elaborate. Most likely Sally, since they do everything as a package and could easily accommodate a small budget and short development time.

Yes, Matt did say the dark ride would set a new industry standard but that doesn't necessarily mean it has a crazy new ride system (I feel innovation like that is best tested at year round parks, not seasonal parks, where it can be replicated later when proven). Setting an industry standard could easily mean in quality for a seasonal park. I just don't think these skyrocketing expectations that we're going to get the next Harry Potter in innovative ride systems is healthy. You're setting yourself up for a big disappointment.

That said, it's not totally out of the realm of possibility that Cedar Point could get something elaborate down the road. If they were to utilize proven ride technology and sanction a budget on the same scale as their coaster budgets ($25-30 million), you could get something really nice. Apparently Curse of DarKastle only cost a little over $20 million and I think that's a really fun ride system (love Spider-Man and Transformers). As mentioned before, I'd love to see a traditional dark ride like PotC (one of the highest capacity rides on this planet), with Garner Holt doing design work, but attractions like these would take lots of planning.

Very true, something to keep in mind. This dark ride might not even be for Cedar Point.

I'm sure it is in the plans, just not for 2014. It looks like the Calico Mine Ride will see the same treatment as the Timber Mountain Log Ride in 2014.

hello and good morning everyone. ok here is my train of thought ( feel free to derail it if needed) out of the past 4 times going to c.p. I noticed the basket ball area ( former chaos ) was not in use and seemed to have noticed small orange/red spots on the pavement. so my train of thought is that area is a midway, there is room there and well quite honestly if you look at the underside of walkways for all wheels extreme ( really showing age ) I say that is prime location for a new ride. again this is my train of thought and very well could be wrong

Well, they did just revamp the All Wheels show for 2013, but if they got rid of the building, it would open up more views of the lake, or have something like one of your boardwalk ideas be put to use.

I know I've been saying this for two years now, but I think something like this would be a good idea near the beach http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDubBKEcyu0 that is, if the capacity was better.

That actually sounds like fun and probably wouldn't cost much.

Well said, I share your sentiments especially the 2nd part when I think of PWE, and the old Pirate/Earthquake rides.
Anyhow, as much I don't want to see it happen and a new building would be better imo, there's probably a chance this dark ride will go into the Coliseum. I was doing some thinking and if the Arcade/Coliseum's 1st floor's games are taken out, I can see alot of them going in those 3 empty unused arcade spaces along the Gemini midway. They would fit in nice there I guess.
I guess I'm hoping that if the Coliseum is used for this new dark ride, that the top floor isn't ripped out, it has too much history and still in nice shape. There's plenty of room to expand behind the Arcade (where Chaos 3pt shootout is currently) like others have stated and the queue line would be ok back there. As much as I hate to admit it, the outer facade of the Coliseum building would look awesome/iconic at the same time for a new ride being put inside of it. I can deal with that but know this is going to upset some others.
I do think that we will be seeing the Cadillac Cars/Turnpike and especially the Dorms area being used for our 2015 project, my thought being another coaster.
Can't wait for this announcement....

On a side note, we found out about GateKeeper on this exact day one year ago! Well...if you didn't view the leaked images.

Many folks have mentioned Earthquake and Pirate which i would love to see revisited, but I also wouldn't mind a new take on the fun house. That place was very fun for me as a kid.

I'd really like to see a "history of Cedar Point" ride-through attraction like the Chocolateworld one, but it's probably too boring for the general population. I just think CP doesn't celebrate it's past enough. I'd love to see a dark ride or a "Lost Cedar Point" section of the park so someday.
