Yeah I'm a little worried about the "interactive" aspect but I've figured that's the direction they go in all along anyways if they did build one. I know Sally has been playing around with the concept of light gun rides by removing the clearly marked targets to get people to focus more on the attraction, and "ripoff" Toy Story Mania type rides already exist. Supposedly the one in Phantasialand is really good; whether that's because it is really good or because it is really good compared to the other bizarre and kitschy dark rides they already have is something I can't speak for having not been in a few years. I wouldn't mind a Toy Story Mania type of thing even if I think they're kinda cheap. Honestly, there's not much there that can't be replicated in large part with a XBox/PS3/Wii.

What I don't want to see is something like "Boo Blasters" or whatever Kings Island is calling that ride these days (the old Scooby Doo shoot-em-up dark ride). My day dream is a ride a la Pirates of the Caribbean.
Well I was very impressed with the recent refurb of Knott's Timber Mountain Log Ride. I expected some new lights and paint here and there but entirely revamped /additional show scenes with all new animatronics from Garner Holt (Disney's supplier), well that blew away any expectations I may've had. The fact that the Calico Mine Ride is set to get similar treatment next year, with a rumored darkride coming after that, shows a definite appreciation and commitment towards this type of family entertainment. It has certainly bolstered my faith in Matt.
Before this I felt if Cedar Point were to ever get a dark ride, it would be on the level of Gobbler Getaway at Holiday World, but now my expectations have been significantly raised (but still being realistic, all things considered).
Sooo.. Idk if there is a rule against this but I heard from a reliable source thatSkyhawk will be leaving after this season. Apparently it keeps breaking and its too expensive to fix and the parts are too rare. Is that spot big enough for a dark ride??
OK, hopes officially raised by mentioning the work that has been done at Knott's, Skippy.
I had forgotten all about that, which was incredible.
After all the incredible work this past year, I honestly wasn't expecting anything for 2014. Perhaps Tony will give us something to gossip/spread rumors about soon.

Ok, here's just a thought. What if this dark ride will be a Vekoma Pandora's Box? http://www.vekoma.com/index.php/specialities-and-attractions/pandora-s-box
Ouimet said the dark ride would be interactive and would set a new industry standard. Well, I don't believe a Pandora's Box has ever been built before, so if CP builds one, it technically would set a new standard since it would be the 1st ride of its kind. Plus it might not be interactive in a shooting style way, but more of a flying into different scenes type interaction. This concept really intrigues me, and it fits all that we've heard so far. Plus this thing needs a decent amount of space, and after all there are rumors that our dark ride will go in the colisseum...
Just a little food for thought, but to me a Pandora's Box would be a perfect choice for a dark ride, and I think it fits everything we've heard about the ride so far.

Wow, I hope cedar point gets a pandora box it looks like an awesome dark ride but it said it can be a high thrill and a family thrill so one car/train would be a family programmed ride an another one could be programmed high thrill ride?
Possibly, but I was under the impression it would be one or the other. Either way, I think a Pandora's Box would be an awesome ride and I think with CP's history in innovative rides, it would be a perfect choice.

Something makes me think if Cedar Point gets a dark ride, it's not going to be some revolutionary ride system. It'll probably be based off of proven ride technology that won't take years of R&D (a huge expense). The innovation Matt speaks of will probably come from HOW the existing technologies are implemented together.
That said, if / when Cedar Point makes a dark ride, do you think it will be an entirely new IP or do you think it will be a revamp / homage to a former attraction (Disaster Transport, Paddlewheel Excursions, Earthquake, Pirates, etc.)?

You're stating the exact reason why it won't go into the Coliseum in my opinion. For what you're asking to happen with the rumored Vekoma, the upper floor of the Coliseum would have to be ripped out. The bottom floors ceiling isn't that high. I don't see that happening. I was just able to go into the Ballroom (upstairs of the Coliseum)today and that space is still used for events, etc. and has too much tradition/history for them to tear it apart, there are offices towards the front also. Anyhow, I would like to see something along the lines of a Pandora's Box also but if this is going to happen, I'm sensing new building construction (hence the stripes on the midway) and the Cadillac Cars spot is looking more like the area to me for it to happen. There's a ton of building/queue room there. Just my 2c.
Ah that makes sense. Either in that area or tear down the old Pirate Ride building and construct a new building in its spot suitable for the ride.

Rather than get rid of another ride that the whole family can go on, i.e. Cadillac Cars, I agree, the old Pirate Building or perhaps the speculation that they're tearing out some of the old dorms. There's also some space in the very back of the park, right now it's occupied with a lot of wood but they can clear that out pretty quick with some dynamite. Doesn't look to be that hard.

Parts are hard to come by ("too rare") for a product that is still in production? How does that happen? I doubt Skyhawk is going anywhere.
While a Pandora's Box would be cool, I'm sure we'll see something that the Sally Corporation will be involved in. Just a feeling.

Does anyone know just how tall the Coliseum would be if they removed the second floor?
Pandora's Box looks a lot like the Harry Potter ride in Hogwarts at Universal Studios. HP aside the ride was incredibly fun and seemed too have great capacity.
Exciting that's for sure.

That area is massive and would be enough if the 2nd floor would be torn out top of 2nd to bottom of 1st. Sorry, that's blasphemy to these ears though with all that history. I hope to God that's not the solution.
