CX360,
Well I see someone had a short lived existence on PointBuzz, hope you enjoyed your stay.
Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!
I would really like to say some very explicative things right now to your noob rear end but I'll refrain and be the bigger man in the situation.

Ride on, MrScott!
One of my favorite members on this site... gone. I don't even know what to say about that.
I got the PM from Loopy about the situation several months ago but sadly wasn't in the financial position to help at all. It's very noble of you for those who contributed to his pass especially loopy for organizing it. I can hardley imagine what he felt like when he got the pass. Too bad he couldn't use it.
I hate borrowing money from friends and family but I had not other choice. Got laid off and nailed by bills. My last month has been spent paying them back. I was hopeing when I was in this position, I'd be helping Mr. Scott enjoy Cedar Point. Instead I donated to the fund that Walt setup.
About the seat. Our money is going the the red cross in memory of Mr Scott. The seat is vacant and I think it should be enjoyed. If Troy and the family doesn't want to ride it then I think that the person that setup the fund for the seat (Walt) or the pass (Loopy) should have the choice to ride. It's just a ride but the seat is waiting for someone to enjoy it. Why not let someone have fun and enjoy it?
That defeats the whole purpose of what we're doing. The whole point of sending the empty seat is in remembrance of Scott. Besides, I don't think he wants anyone riding on his lap :).

I don't think it does. Most people won't understand why a perfectly good seat was sent empty. I'm one of them.
I understand your philosophy on the situation but I can guarantee that not one of the three of us will ride in that seat even if others wanted us to.
I could personally care less what others think about an empty seat, if they don't know about it, or if they ask and don't understand, that's their own problem. The ride will be there for many many years, it's not about getting a ride on the first train, it's about getting Scott a ride on it and giving to a good cause while doing so.
Just sit back and think about the situation for a few minutes and try to appreciate what is going on.

How is donating a significant sum of money to fireland's red cross in memory of someone, or a fish a waste of anyone's time? *** Edited 4/28/2007 3:01:34 AM UTC by Jump to Conclusions***
I haven't posted in a while, and indeed I haven't been to the site for over a week, so when I logged in today, I was quite shocked and saddened to read about Mr. Scott's passing. I always enjoyed reading what he had to say. His comments were never brash or rude, and he always had a jovial wit. I think it is a testament to how well liked he was that this thread has grown so much in such a short time. My condolences to you and your family, Troy. Mr. Scott will be greatly missed.

The point is it isn't necessarily a "free" seat. It's being bid upon just like others are bidding upon seats, and the money is going to a good cause in Scotts name and honor.
Once someone wins a seat through a donation of money, they can do what they wish...and the wish is the seat, that is paid for through donation, be left empty in honor of someone who has been a member of Poinbuzz for quite some time, has been an unofficial spokesperson for the park and LHP, and earned the respect of those of us who have met him.
No one has any right to be upset that a seat won in an auction has someone sitting in it or not.
I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead
Thanks Walt!

Question: How do you explain the actions of millions of people who wait hours upon hours to be dropped down a hill?
Answer: You don't...

Yeah, ditto!

Jump,
Walt brought this up with me yesterday. Having an auction for seats on a new ride and then sending a train out with an empty seat might create a PR problem.
Walt is placing a bid for a Maverick seat in my name. I will be wearing a pendant around my neck with a little MrScott inside.
MrScott will ride Maverick in 14 days.
If anyone feels I am trying to benefit through the donations made by members here, I want you to know I donated $500 to help make it happen. I felt that was enough to secure my ride. What other donations from people here, and many, many family members and friends of my brother will decide, is which train and which seat.
Again, I want to say what an amazing group of people you all are. What you have done has been very enlightening to our family. We knew Scott liked PointBuzz, but to read how he touched so many people has really helped us deal with this dark time.
Thank you all.
Troy
I don't want to see this topic go any direction, but the way it was. In remembrance of a former member of this forum.
I think some people have to keep some things to themselves on here.

Troy, enjoy your ride with Scott. I think he will enjoy it more if you went along on the ride with him anyways.
As for CX360, what are you so upset about, we are PAYING for the seat, it NOT free. Let me guess, you are in the bidding too, and you don't want to lose your seat? RIGGGGGHHHHTTT, smart move.
While I'm absolutely for Troy riding in the seat, I have to admit that I actually thought the opposite about the empty seat on the first train-- that it would be a GREAT opportunity for PR.
I mean, when I first read of this idea I instantly envisioned the front page of the Sandusky Register with a photo of the empty seat on the train and a story on Scott and our PointBuzz community that made it happen.
It's a pretty cool human interest-type story. But then again we don't want it to take away from the highlight of the day for the park and most the rest of the world, Maverick.
Like I said, I'm for either way...just had to share my initial thoughts :).

If things went smoothly then in could work. More likely would be a botch job. (Thinking of plastic surgery gone wrong.)
Hey guys, I havn't been reading all the threads lately and was just absolutly floored this morning. Mr Scott was always one you could count on to spark a discussion. He will be sorley missed. I just made my donation as well. With how the seat selection works, and from what I've read so far, it looks like we'll end up with enough to gaurentee a front seat on the secont train.
I've been watching the bids fairly closely and belive that the top two bids are being held by the same person. Obviously someone with some money to spend. The top 2 bids have not been going up in small increments. I belive they were 500, then 1000, and currently at $1,400. Someone said earlier to bid now and just keep adding. But, bidding to early can spark bidding wars. I like Walt's idea of bidding on the 8th.
Good luck everyone. It's always heart warming to see a community come together. I definatly got a little choked up reading some of these posts this morning.

Those were my thoughts exactly Kara.
Again, I'm for it either way, but I'm not sure CP would have a problem with sending the seat empty due to it's meaning.
Walt, can't you contact someone about this and find out one way or another?
It's really completely Troy's decision and no matter which way it turns out I'm just happy that this community could come together for a great cause again.
Thanks again everyone, from before and now.

I have an update as far as the last donation date is concerned. The process of moving the money from PayPal in order to make payment for the auction takes 3-5 business days. So, we will stop accepting donations at the end of the day, Sunday, May 6. That will ensure that the auction payment can made when it is due. Even though that will be the cutoff, I will wait until the evening of May 8 to actually place bid and will let everyone know on May 9 what the final amount is.
As Troy mentioned, the bid will be placed in his name so that the Red Cross can contact him, as they do all winning bidders, regarding the morning's agenda, park ticket, commemorative medallion, and other details. At that time, they can discuss what is best regarding the ride.
I'm sure we could discuss the details forever, so let's just focus on raising money and trust everything will be worked out.

Thanks for the update Walt. It's truly touching to see how everyone has come together in this effort. It really shows the sense of community we have here at PointBuzz.
As to what happens with the seat, I'm happy with whatever is decided. No matter what, we've shown Scott's family what an inspiration he was to us.
