I conceded DT had a theme. So what? A failure covered by a failure is a failure twice over. Kinzel himself admits that. Why spend more money on a failure? To please fanboys on a Web site?

Putting a fog machine on a ride is not a theme. Making the queue a castle and molding dragon parts around the train is a theme. As for the mist (which for the record I don't recall being off on any of my visits, and I know I went more often than most of you), are the queues themed? They have mist.

Last I checked, Dragster still had the "Vroom! Vroom! noises and the peel-out, and the trains still look like drag racers in the front, there's still a grandstand, checkered flags, etc. Did I mention one of the slicks came flying off? Yeah, keeping those would've been a really great, safe idea. I'm sure the state and the insurance company would've been totally fine with that.

So again, Disaster Transport is a failed attempt at theme. Where are the others?

And I love watching squirrels fight......but that doesnt really have to do with Maverick now does it? Unless there's squirrels in the themeing.....:)

I agree with Jeff

Theming at Cedar Point has never been important, and things such as mist or fog hardly qualify as theming. The only rides that count as "themed" rides are DT, TTD, and Maverick.

The great thing about Maverick's theming is that it will not require much upkeep so it should last. No strobes or other lights (or light caps ;)) to worry about.

Hail to the Victors

Well, we don't know about the lights yet, so that's a little early to say :)

Cedar Creek Mine Ride is themed. I'd say it's the most effective too. The trains look like coal trains, it runs on rails, the structure is all timber like a trestle, and the queue even has a closed off mine. Can't get much more themed than that. Everything on that ride is spot on.

So a tire fell off Dragster. Big deal. Did it hurt anyone? Nope. So, figure out why it fell off and make sure it doesn't happen again. That's no excuse for just scraping it. The launch cable broke and sent people to the hospital. Did they just take the launch cable out and say screw this ride, its not important? No, because it WAS important. That just shows theme is not important to Cedar Point. That's all. There's nothing wrong with that, either. The argument here is if theme isn't important to Cedar Point, why even try in the first place? Like Jeff said, why spend money to "fix" Disaster Transport if it's not worth it? On the flip side, why spend the money on theme in the first place if its not worth it? If they are going to scrap theme at the first sign of a problem, they shouldn't have even spent the money on it in the first place.

Well said.

And whether you want to call an element theming or special effects, if it's not kept up, the attraction suffers.

I knew one of you would suddenly morph into an engineer. Did you fix Skyhawk as well?

Dragster sure has long lines for a ride that's "suffering."

I couldnt disagree more! Would you really rather them work on the theming of other rides, instead of building Maverick? You are outta your mind!

I was replying to TTDragster or whoever it was, saying they would rather have CP fix theming on rides rather than build a new coaster. It was a few pages back. What the heck is this guy thinking! No Maverick, but we have fog machines on Magnum again!! Get outta here!

Maverick is themed beautifully. If a few elements from the "concept" drawing didn't make the final cut its worth a mention but lets move on. If you want to discuss the theme work on the rest of the park start a new topic in general. There is probably one already started right under "CP is out of space where will the next ride be?"

I couldn't agree more. Cedar Point is named best park in the world all the time and CP fans still have something to complain about. Im just proud to have the best amusement park in the world so close to me. Thank You Cedar Point! Ignore all these weirdos that complain about everything you do.

i love all the themeing in the park. I am also not there for just the themeing, nor the hotel room. I sleep and shower so i just get a cheap room. The themeing is nice but you cant really see much at 120 mph or from 420 feet. Im there for the rides not the looks.

I couldnt have said it better myself, loneranger.

"ignore all those weirdos that complain about everything you do..."

so having a complaint, or rather an opinion, which members like Jeff had to be reminded of a few pages back makes someone a weirdo?

halltd: my point exactly. themeing shouldn't even be touched in the first place if its going to cause problems.

Again, Cedar Point is a great amusement park, and some of their themeing is absolutely great, and obviously not integral to the operation of the park. imo, some of their other attempts at themeing have not worked out so well, and have since become an eyesore, or have detracted, even if if only a little, from some of the rides.

I must say that the recent update is pretty disappointing (at least to me). I actually don't mind the fencing, as I think it looks slightly western and will fit in fairly well. I probably would have chosen something different, but oh well. Obviously as indicated with the blog, themeing is still in progress, but I'm going to comment on what we see so far.

Landscaping: Looks pretty bare so far. Hopefully the 5 trees that are there aren't the only ones they are planning on putting in. Obviously the landscaping will look a lot better in a few years when its been given time to grow, but I do think a few more trees could have been used.

Canyon after air-time hill: I guess its not definite yet, but since its already mid-April I'd say its been cut. This is really disappointing, as it was the best part of the themeing in my mind from the POV video. It also seems like the lack of this canyon will open the ride up more to the midway making it even more noticeable (good and bad). I really wish this hadn't of been cut.

Coal Mine: Again, this looked like it would have been pretty cool but I highly doubt its coming now. Would have been nice to see from the lift.

Station: So far, the station looks pretty great. I'm sure it will look better in person. Leaving the WWL station and landscaping alone really helped.

Canyons: The 2 canyons in place look nice, but they look a little weird just by themselves in my opinion. The heartline roll one should be cool.

Tunnel: Again this looks sort of disappointing to me. I'm probably being to picky with this, but the paneling on the side makes it look anything but western. Just makes it look too "normal" in my opinion.

I'm sure the ride will be great on opening day, but I the lack of themeing is pretty disappointing. For the "best amusement park in the world" this is just plain lazy on their part. C'mon CP! Step it up. Since people were pretty much equally excited for the ride as they were for the themeing (and all the press releases really promoted the themeing) I think this will detract from the ride experience. I just wish CP wouldn't promise all this themeing only to have it fall by the wayside.

I will agree with you on certain aspects of your post and respect what you said, but look at it from Cedar Point's POV. Is Maverick a highly anticipated thrill ride? Yes. Will people still visit the park and love it if a canyon and coal shaft are missing? Yes. Will the ride still be fun and look great with those 2 aspects missing? Yes. Cedar Point has another great coaster that keeps their guests happy under their belt. Good for them.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

I certainly agree, and I'm sure the ride will be popular no matter what. But its sort of like getting a "C" in school. Sure you will still graduate from high school and get into college, and you may become very successful. But why not go for the "A"?

Seriously, I hope you guys just don't ride if it's going to trouble you this much. More rides for the rest of us!

On a sidenote, for those of you worried about the fence, T and T said that it wont be as big of a problem as you might think...something you have to see in person
