I'd rather not have a new ride for a while and just finish theming on the other rides. Next offseason they could finish the canyons for Maverick. The next offseason after that fix lighting for all the rides and do w/e they have to with DT.
Let's Get Weird.
Are you talking hypothetically because, besides the canyon after the bunny hill, the other 2 will be finished.

Many of you are really going crazy over this theming.

Aside from Disaster Transport, where exactly has the park failed to maintain a theme? The train and Paddlewheel have been maintained and relatively unchanged for decades. The games midway is itself a theme. The Frontier Trail and all of its goodies have been maintained. Halloweekends themes the whole damn park.
So what are you talking about?

You kidder.
Disaster Transport: too many theming failures to count.
Top Thrill Dragster: lost its race car wheels, lighting in frequent state of disrepair.
Iron Dragon: no more fog machines.
Magnum: no more fog. And werent' there strobe lights in the tunnel once upon a time?
Other rides have lost their lighting effects.
I'm sure this list isn't all that exhaustive.
Oh, and I can think of a certain Challenge Park attraction that lost its 'vertical' theming in a rather spectacular fashion. ;)

^ - is it really considered a loss of "theming" when an entire ride comes crashing down?
Goodbye MrScott
John
Mike, I understand where you're coming from, but a few of those things I wouldn't consider theming. The lighting effects, fog at ID, and fog at Magnum are more special effects than theming. I won't argue with you about DT or TTD though.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
Didn't TTD have a "smoke" effect when it launched?
Magnum also used to have sound effects in the tunnels (and yes, there used to be strobes in the tunnels).
I still claim the auto-spiel was a big part of the "theme" on Millennium Force. I know most people will say it wasn't. But, the lack of the woman's voice in the station has definitely made the ride "feel" different. The logo lights in the station are also gone.
Yes, but I think that falls under ride removal rather than a lack of theming upkeep. And if I remember right, VertiGo didn't have much "theming" to begin with.
However one poorly attached tire on Dragster and they remove all the theming. Sure an extra row was gained, but the trains looked cooler before.
Goodbye MrScott
John
^^^ I guess I tend to lump all those things together. Anything extraneous to the ride structure that is intentionally added to make the experience more enjoyable, I call theming. But I can see your point as well.

Jeff:
I think my point was made clear by several posts above. Halloweekends can't be counted since it's a specialized event. It's not a season-round thing. So I stand by my point, the themeing CP has IS lacking. You just have to look.
And yes, we know CP is not a theme park. And most guests don't notice themeing. So in that case, dont theme.(not counting Halloweekends) CP is a great park without it. It's sad that when they do theme, it tends to get worse and worse with each season. So either scrap it altogether, or do it right the first time, and keep it that way every season.

Halloweekends doesn't count? They turn half of the park into a haunt, tear it down every year, and that doesn't count? I think you're just looking for something to bitch about.
As for...
Disaster Transport: The ride sucks anyway. Who cares?
Top Thrill Dragster: The trains didn't "lose" the slicks, they were a safety hazard. Frankly I'd rather have the extra seats. The lighting is not in "disrepair" just because the little hood isn't over the lights on the tower. They never needed them anyway because they're so bright.
Iron Dragon: The ride never had fog machines. Not ever. Weather permitting, and even when it was too cold, they have generally used the mist.
Magnum: The fog never stayed in the tunnels in the first place on a windy day. There were/are strobe lights, and when the fog is on thick, you can barely see them. And it's a roller coaster, not a dark ride.
Like I said... train, Paddlewheel, trail. Case closed. Calling any of the above things a "theme" is a stretch in the first place.
Jeff - Advocate of Great Great Tunnels™ - Co-Publisher - PointBuzz - CoasterBuzz - Blog - Music
^^ Calling any of the above a "theme" is a stretch? So TTD doesn't have a race car theme? DT doesn't have a sci-fi theme? (Oh, wait, the ride sucks, so it doesn't count. Case closed.) *sarcasm*
I admit I mis-stated ID having fog machines. I meant mist. I'm sure it wasn't obvious what I meant at all. * more sarcasm*
And since Magnum's special effects have been problematic from the beginning, it doesn't count as a theming failure? Okay, well that makes total logical sense. *even more sarcasm*
Your arguments are amazing!!! *okay, you get the point*

So first you admit DT had a theme but wasn't maintained, then because it sucks it doesn't matter. That's purely an opinion about a ride and has no bearing on whether it had theming or not. It was themed and now the theme is less than desirable, along with the other rides mentioned above.
You asked which rides had theming and weren't maintained, that question was answered, you just didn't like the answer so it then turns into your opinion being fact.

Wow. You know me so well. You're absolutely right. I am just looking for something to bitch about. It's my opinion, you've got one, and the difference is that you state yours as a matter of fact, I don't. Like halltd says: "because Jeff says so" right Jeff? right?
DT doesn't count because it sucks. Thats a great argument. It sucks to you Jeff. Not to everyone in the world. So because of that, it can count as a themed ride.
Pull your head out of your a**, it works, trust me.

About Dragsters's tower light caps; what I can't see is how hard they'd be to replace. While I agree with Jeff that the lights are soo bright the caps aren't really needed, I just wish they'd either take the rest off (though I'd like THAT to NOT happen) or replace the 2. Everytime I watch the tower, for some reason, those 2 missing caps annoy me. Why, I don't know.......
What happened to them any way? Did they fly off in that wind storm last year (the same one that ripped the laser screen)?
