So- I've read through the thread and couldn't find any info....
Have they cut the canyon that was going to be constructed right after the air hill?
Have they also cut the mine that was to be built over the first turn?
And if so- wouldn't it be smart for these concept artists and planners to make the ride look less themed, that way people aren't so disappointed when stuff is cut- Cough(Wildwater Kingdom at Geauga Lake!)cough
By the looks of it, yes they have scratched both projects. At least they didnt have to take anything away from the stations budget. I love how it's turning out (very sexy.:)) and would hate to see what it'd be like with a small budget.
I was also thinking. With the bad weather starting today, does anybody think they'd test in this kind of weather? I know I'm just being paranoid, but I'm just curious. The weather is suppose to break late next week so I guess they'd hold off testing till then. But say (hypothetically) they scheduled to start testing everything tomorrow, would they dispite the cold temps? *** Edited 4/4/2007 8:24:19 PM UTC by TTD 120mph***

While I agree that the fence is probably one of the least greatest ideas in Maverick...any other type of fencing that has holes or open areas would be an open invitation to injury, from objects flying off of the train, or idiots on the train throwing stuff towards Maverick. And yes, before y'all get out your but Millennium this and over the water that links...don't bother. I see the train traveling so close to Maverick as being the more dangerous area of the ride than anything else...
The leftover themeing that was not cut looks nice, and I too, would like to see that waterfall. But even if it is installed, themeing has a limited life at CP, so keep that in mind.

Actually I've been looking at the pic of the heartline canyon and noticed that the TC side is slightly convex in the middle and, by the looks of it on the inside, looks concave in the same area.

My guess is this might be where there'll be a water fall of sorts. Of course Im not saying this for sure. It's just something I noticed. It's most likely the way it is in that area because of the support.
I also like how the inside of the canyon is below the water line, good stuff.

The good part about the theming they HAVE installed is its permanent. Its not like the canyons have all that much upkeep required - compared to lighting, mist, sound effects, water. Its still a step in the right direction. They planned a lot of theme this time and built half of it. Maybe the next time they do a themed ride, they'll build all of it. But, half of the theme is better than none of the theme. Like most people said, I'm sure the ride will still be good. :)
I think I can tell where the on ride photo locations are going to be on Maverick. You'll have to look closely at the pics. The top pic shows a flash bulb close to the heartline roll, and the bottom pic shows another one right when you come down the 95 degree drop and start to round the curve. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/index.cfm is the link to the pics.

ltrain- Those appear to be the generator-trailer mounted portable work lights. Nice catch, though!

Looks like they cut much of the theming short. The rock/cave was supposed to go over top of the track. This doesnt appear to be the case in the photo. I wonder if they are going to finish up the theming next winter. I dont know if they are just running out of time. I know they have to cover the track in order to construct those canyons, so maybe they scratched those projects to get on with the testing soon.
What would be truly nice were if CF had a continuing theming budget on a year to year basis. Then if they went over-budget on a project and had to cut some of the advertised theming, they could at least add some of it back in future off-seasons. Of course, this would then require them to maintain their existing theming, and we all know how that discussion goes . . .
My author website: mgrantroberts.com.
For those who are experienced in construction/design, what causes things to be cut or added? Who makes these decisions? Were they ever part of the original plan?

Money is what causes cuts. The owner is usually who cuts items like that. Almost all construction projects go over budget and that's why they end up cutting things near the end. They get estimates for construction based on the drawings. They can afford the estimates. Construction begins. Costs go up because of changes, scheduling, lack of information, material costs, whatever. Client realizes they only have so much money to invest in the project, so they start cutting "non-essential" items so they can afford it.
It happens ALL the time.
Honestly, it's a beaten to death discussion. Cedar Point and themeing do not go together. Period. They can't maintain it for extended periods of time, especially if it requires continuous work and care. And with Maverick, why start off with more themeing then you can handle? Cut it now, and save yourself "headaches" in the future.
Notice headaches is in quotations. Hence, sarcasm. Cedar Point could handle themeing if they really wanted to. But they just choose not to, i.e. Disaster Transport and Dragster. Don't tell me that they couldn't have found ways to upkeep the themeing.

Exactly. They've proven they don't NEED theming on their rides. 90% of CP's guests would've been happy with Maverick with NO theming on it besides the station. I'm actually surprised they even tried considering their track record.
If Disney were to put in a ride and not theme it, people would be up in arms over it. They've already received TONS of flack for Primeval Whirl and they tried to theme that one.
But, Cedar Point isn't a theme park, so most people don't expect theme when they go there. Ironically, the most themed ride there is Mine Ride. *** Edited 4/5/2007 7:03:45 PM UTC by halltd***
