mean streak

If everyone likes this ride so much, how come i've never waited more than three minutes to get on the pos. They were going to tear down blue streak which I would take over mean streak anyday. The point would be much better off going after mean streak theres more land and its a worse ride anyways. They need to get their priorities straight.

^ Actually, on certain days Mean Streak can have a very long line. I've seen it in upwards of an hour on insane days. It usually has shorter lines due to no one going all the way back there, but I wouldn't say no one rides it.

Thrills Around the Corner!

i still think they could've done so much more with the land area I mean can anyone honestly say that the ride is worth that much land space? I cannot see why they wouldn't want to put anything else in, because i'm sure whatever they put in in place of it, would become much popular

Cedar Point probably didn't know how rough Mean Streak was going to turn out when Dinn Corp. was building it. Also, a wooden coaster that size that doesn't have prefabricated track is going to be very rough.

Edit is a wonderful feature.

Besides that, chew on this:

Richard Kinzel himself has said that of all the rides, DT was the lemon. You want to talk waste of space, talk DT. People only ride it for air-conditioning and for a good laugh. And even then, lately, its been awful quiet in there.

(and yes, I know there are those of you who take your kids in there, but I can easily use that argument on any other good ride in the park. Heck, even the space spiral sees better upkeep.)

I have been on the Voyage and it is definitely rougher than Mean Streak, but like you said, it feels like you are flying through the course (but you are really only going 2mph faster than MS) and that makes you want to ride the Voyage again. 5 1/2 acres is a lot of land, but CP can still build more coasters without ripping down something that cost them $7.5 Million. Plus, Voyage is an out and back style coaster, with lots of large drops, while MS is more of a intertwined type with less large drops. That makes you percieve that MS has less speed. I do think that the trim breaks on MS really make you loose some speed (or at least they make you think that you are going much slower). I doubt that MS would be on the top 10 speed list if they clocked it with the current trim breaks in place. When I went on MS in 2002, those were definitely not there. Then it was really jerky but it was also kind of fun because it actually had some air time. Now you don't go fast enough on the "air time" hills to actually get any air time. And for the record when we went on Memorial Day this year, I waited between 25 and 30 minutes to ride Mean Streak (at about 2pm). And don't say that it was one of those "really busy days" because I rode 12 of the 17 coasters that day and did many rerides (MF: 3, TTD: 2) Yes the ridership on MS is declining, but last year it was ridden over 800,000 times, so a pretty good number of people still do ride it. And I doubt that CP will tear down any coasters until there is absolutely no other place that they could put a new coaster.

Four discount funday tickets to Cedar Point: $130.96
Overnight stay at Breakers Express: $70
Riding rides the size of skyscrapers while "legally" breaking the local speed limit: Priceless

I've never waited more than 20 minutes to ride MS, but that's because I choose to ride it at times when very few people are back there. It would probably get more riders if it was placed differently in the park, but as it is, it's a long walk from the front of the park.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

It will be interesting to see if ridership numbers go up for it this year, being right next to Maverick. probably just a temporary uptick if they do.

I hadn't ridden MS in years until this year... I was surprised about the trims on the first hill. What's the deal there? The ride seemed so much slower... it was less bumpy, but isn't that the point? FWIW, my daughter loved it (she's 7).

I agree with all that said they can have a smooth ride on Mean Streak. I have felt that. In fact, last season on opening day my wife and I re-rode 3 times in a row because we thought they had actually changed something on the ride. We didnt feel the trims, eye had little "tear streaks" on my eyes (I get these in the wind...always fun), it was smooth...it was like we re-discovered a great ride at the park!

And then...each of the 10 times we came back we rode it...and it was horrid. Slow...the back-jolts at the bottom of hills...boring...

It's completely unreliable, and after last season, we're done with it completely.

I have to say that the post I agree with the most in this thread is the one that says CP can't just tear something down when there is something better out there. I hope to ride The Voyage this year, but I am sure it is better than MS... So is Shivering Timbers, and many other wood coasters. Heck, even Blue Streak is better than MS in my opinion. But does that mean you tear it down, just to have something better?

If the ride was in serious disrepair, or was seriously injuring guests, then I could understand taking it out. But if you ride in the right seat, and lean forward a bit, its really not a terrible ride. As much as I hate the trims, I understand the reasoning behind them (Side Note: For the person who said they didn't feel the trims on in 2002, they were in place by then).

As far as re-"rideability", I used to ride it several times a day when I worked at the park because I got tired of the smoothness of steel sometimes. Riding it at night is a real treat just because of the visuals. And I really enjoy going in and out of the structure so many times.

Is it my favorite ride in the world, or even in the park? Not even close.

Would I be upset if it went away?... for a better woodie, no... for another steel coaster, yes...

I know alot of people have talked about refurbing the ride, and if it is truly possible to correct the issues enough that the trims can be removed, and correct some of the roughness issues with re-tracking, I still don't think it would be a top 10 woodie, but I think far more people would enjoy it.

Ripcord Crew 2002 / MF Crew 2004

when i first saw mean streak i thought it was going to be absolutely amazing, its a great looking coaster but i would love to see it go for another wooden coaster, i doubt it will be taken down anytime soon though, i dont know if anyone here has ridden viper at six flags great america, that type of coaster would be a great replacement in my mind

I do not love Mean Streak, but by far it is not the worst coaster in the world. I like the fact that there is virtually no line for it too.

Quite frankly, if you don't like the ride MS gives, don't ride it. There are plenty of other people who will.

On a side note, I will always love the Beast best. I don't care how many Voyages or El Toros are built, I will still always view the Beast as the best.

I went yesterday and realized after two rides on each, that Gemini hurts my back more than MS does. It's a good ride, not sure if it's worth all the space but I'm definitely a fan.

When MS was new we waited 2 hrs in line and that ride rocked. Once they put in the trims it went from hero to zero, and wear & tear have made it a paintshaker from Hades. Modifying the trains might help.

I long for the old bench seats they used to have on Blue Streak, and you can still find on many coaster classics. Accurate ride comfort comparison: Current MS bucket seats = overcrowded hospital waiting room. Classic-style bench seats = La-Z-Boy recliner.

Just say no to trims

yea there going to put in a 500 footer and im gonna be the king of scotland. the theme park goal now has shifted in case you couldnt notice the money is in familys and building thrill rides does draw familys to the park. if they put a coaster in there it wouldnt be super tall or fast it would be entertaining for the familys

Have you ever heard of SARCASM? *** Edited 6/14/2007 10:51:01 PM UTC by rFo628***

People bitch and complain about meanstreak but i think it is a great and fun ride. Even better if it has no trims but i cant remember the last time i rode it without trims.

I've never heard anyone get off the mean streak and say that was great I want to ride this one again it's always a one-timer

There are a surprising number of people who ride MS rather frequently. I've seen large numbers of kids reride MS over and over at night.

It's not so bad in the very front seat.

yes. today i did it 3 times... over and over.

Mean Streak isn't a bad coaster. If you sit in the right spots, It's a good ride.
