Mean Streak is history!

It's no secret that Jack Falfas has been heard talking about how much he liked Renegade at Valleyfair (it's no secret, but it doesn't mean it's true either), and he certainly loved Ghostrider when he was at Knott's. A modern wood coaster to me sounds like a bargain compared to another Intamin anything.

Well lets back up for a moment. Does anyone remember the Q & A last year with Kinzel? Someone specifically asked him about Mean Streak and his response was vague, but he did say a company like GCI could be brought in to see what they could do with it (I am paraphrasing there).

Promoter of fog.

That same meeting also revealed that the park had absolutely no plans of going in any direction with Mean Streak, and as I recall, GCI was in fact, only a mere thought, and there was no serious interest expressed in the company doing something for Cedar Point, let alone for Mean Streak.

I think it comes down to what Jeff said about TTD, and the park really does not need to make that mistake again. Now Maverick was a great addition to the park, but I'm sure that the park's numbers didn't skyrocket because of it.

If something is being planned to replace MS, or revamp it, the park needs to carefully consider their options, and make sure that they're thinking the long term, not short term. I have no doubt GCI could come in and build an incredible ride that with a few other changes to that area could really bring a new image to the Frontier area, as Maverick did.

Whether that's the direction certain people at CF want to take, is another thing.

Replacing Mean Streak with any kind of wooden coaster would be a terrible decision from the business perspective. Most of the public would have no idea it's a different ride. If they were going to put in another woodie, it should definitely be in another location.

The general public couldn't tell a new wood roller coaster from Mean Streak if it was in the same location but could tell the difference if it was built in another location?

Has anyone ridden the train lately to see what is going on over there? I hear there is some visible stuff, but I don't know what it is.

mean streak is one of the best coasters there! it's sure one of the longest (duration). sure every seat but the front is painful, but i love mean streak because there usually is nobody there, so waiting for the front isnt that big of deal.

please tear down gemini!

Tear down Gemini?

That's exactly what I was about to say, Wahoo. Why? Gemini is a great coaster with very little down time and the coaster just hit a pretty big milestone in it's life. It's the only racer Cedar Point has had and will probably ever have. Gemini is most likely one of the most ridden coasters at Cedar Point. That would be a bad move on Cedar Point's part.

An inverted coaster is like a ski lift gone haywire!!

^Both are really reliable. In fact MS is probably the most reliable coaster at CP.

ashleygCP95's avatar

I think that goes for almost every wooden coaster. They are more reliable then steel. Everyone loves a good woodie!

If cedar point ever did remove mean streak, maybe install a dive machine

rollercoaster in the same area.

I have been thinking about this for awhile. As much as I want a new Woodie, a dive machine would be beast. If the hill faced the lake that would be a great view.

Why would they tear down Gemini? It's a great coaster that is enjoyed by alot of guests including families who aren't ready for the huge rides, but are tired of the baby areas. Slapping hands and trying to beat your friends to the finish line is alot of fun for people of all ages, and I can't see this happening anytime soon.

You would have to be mental to tear down Gemini. I would say more people and families enjoy Gemini over Mean Streak. Plus Gemini is a good coaster to start out on if your not sure if you like the big ones. It was my first big roller coaster, and I LOVED it!

^^^Dive machines are over rated. After the first drop (which wasn't as I imagined it) it's nothing special. They typically have a small layout with few exciting elements. I'd take a new woodie over a dive machine any day. I was so excited to experience a dive machine when I went to Busch Gardens in Tampa and I was generally disappointed.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Mean Streak is a Texas Giant wannabee. It has been 4 years since I have ridden Texas Giant, but that was a sweet ride. The twists and speed through the banked turns are unbelievable. It is hard to believe MS was built just a year later and has the problems it known to have. It is really too bad that it has to really be scrapped to make that area usable for something else. Give them a sawsall and have at it!!!

^ Agreed. I go to Texas Giant first every year, because everyone else always goes to Titan, and it's a great ride. The banked turns at the end are amazing, and you're still going fast, so you get this awesome sideways airtime feeling. Too bad Mean Streak didn't turn out as well.

^^^I have never experienced one. I just thought they always looked fun. My vision stated above was all about being held at the lift facing the lake. That would be a cool view. But yes I would still rather have a good woodie.

If B&M built a floorless dive machine with a lap bar combined with a hyper twister, I'd think it would be awesome.

P.S. I never ridden a hyper twister, but if they add a ton of airtime to the ride idea I stated above, I think it would a huge hit.
