Mean Streak is history!

And around 10 feet of brakes on the first drop that the Voyage (thankfully) lacks.

Firemen never die, they just burn forever in the hearts of the people whose lives they saved

(Long post no one may actually read it, but I have to say it in response to multiple posts of authority on the previous pages).

I have to chime in and defend TTD as a ride that's unique and never gets old for me. Is it a roller coaster? Is it a thrill ride? Interesting debate, but at the end of the day, I don't care. It's a fun, unique experience.

In fact I like it the more I ride it. Everyone, I mean everyone, I've ever ridden it with loves it. As a single rider, the only person I've ridden it with more than once is Mark Small (11x). All the others (88 with 1 rollback, not a lot, but enough to know) it's been a lot o' different people: Mom's, Dad's, kids, teens, bikers, middle-aged or older enthusiasts, foreigners who come just to ride TTD, first time riders, riders with all kinds of rollbacks and ride totals, people with and without rollbacks, ERT riders, season pass holders, single day tickets, resort guests, employees, dead weight et al.

It can be more fun if you know when to get on it for at least three rides within a shorter amount of time. That's true. It's a great way to end the night.

I know it's not been cost effective. But I'm not convinced if it if it were gone that it's not that important for the park nor it's image (like advertising you can't always see a tangible ROI). It's a signature ride that looks dominating yet welcoming on a skyline surrounded by water. The theme does not suck. What other roller coaster or thrill ride do people actually sit and watch. I would notice if it were gone and I'd be upset if/when it probably is down the road. I know a lot of others would be upset too.

I'll tell you one thing: I've been to CP 11 times and KI 8 times with the Platinum Pass. When I end my rides at KI, I ask myself, where's TTD? It's not there. I also say where's MF, Maverick and the others. But the first thing I think of is TTD and its unique launch & ride experience 420 feet into the night air.

As for Mean Streak. I don't ride wooden roller coasters anymore. They give me migraines. I wouldn't miss it. It looks good lit up at night. With enough good wooden roller coasters in the world like Voyage and even smooth pre-fab air time rides like El Toro, and with so many enthusiasts who hate MS for legitimate reasons (lack of interesting surprising elements, trim brakes in spots that ruin the ride experience, a long, rough ride and not in a good way etc) I can understand why MS wouldn't be missed and needs to go.

But the argument against TTD for whatever reason. It's a unique, marquee ride in my book. Where else can you go 120 MPH in 4 seconds then shot up 420 feet then down a 270 degree twist (not to mention the left side whip), all very smoothly with a great feeling of freedom, with the possibility of stalling on the top hat and/or rollbacks where gravity really wants to tear you through the high seat back yet it comes to a soft stop. (Kingda Ka is generally regarded to be not as good, nor as thrilling, nor as smooth). TTD looks & sounds cool as hell.

17 seconds. Yes. But 17 seconds of a Top Thrill you can't get anywhere else. I'd miss it if it were gone.

MS on the other hand: See ya wouldn't want to be ya. I can't wait to ride TTD this weekend and wonder what would be good where MS used to stand (El Toro but well that ain't gonna happen).

Hey thanx for reading.

No doubt there are people who like Dragster. I like it...for what it is. But, I think the issue Jeff was looking at was of a business perspective. Did it draw in the crowds? Did is warrant the price? Does it bring people back?

I think they may have exceeded the limit, quite literally of what the general public was going to want. They could probably go 500 or 600 feet but to what end? Would that be a smart business move? I think Dragster answered that question.

Top Thrill Dragster is what brought me and my family to the park and because we went that first time we have returned once or twice a year for the past 5 years. When we heard that there was a 400 foot coaster at some park in Ohio we were shocked because Raging Bull (200 feet) was the tallest coaster we had ever been on. Basically if not for TTD I never would have come to Cedar Point so I'm glad they put it in.

What Wahoo said. I think as a business decision it was ego driven and ultimately a bad idea because it didn't generate even short-term boosts in attendance.

First of all, Top Thrill Dragster is a roller coaster, but I agree that it's way too short (time not height lol) and they could have chose something alot better. As far as the business side of it, yeah it cost too much and may have not drawn in the crowds initially, but now I've realized how much energy it adds to the atmosphere around that area of the park. Walking down that midway seeing the trains launch down the track, sitting on the stands cheering for a rollback, racing to the entrance and hearing the music in the queue, waiting patiently in the front row for the Christmas tree lights to start the countdown, watching people watching you from the stands, then going from sitting still to 120 up and down a 420 ft tower, enjoying watching others have the same experience, etc. That was way too much to write about it, but oh well. My point is that not having TTD would really dull down that particular area.

No one is debating atmosphere or whether or not someone came to the park because of it. The point is that it wasn't worth the expense.

And I thought it was far from dull as the nice wooded area with Troika, Chaos, Dodge'Em and the back Paddlewheel sidewalk.

I totally agree with Jeff. As the midway stands now it's simply not as charming as it used to be.

For the money they should have built 2 great 200' coasters. but hind sight is always 20/20... looking back it's still a bit fuzzy.

Oh, go get a room with Lighty the Lightpost and stop talking about 'charm' all the time ;)

^I agree! CP has lots of charm and in my opinion does have a lot of trees. I would much rather have TTD where it is sitting now than a few trees, but hey if you would rather have trees than coasters that's your opinion.

I've seen pictures of Troika in the galleries here in its former location and I wish I could have seen the area pre-2002. I wish there were more pictures out there of that area.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

I just have to say that I love that quote. Its great. Dragster is the first thing I ride every trip I go on to CP.

Anyway, I have heard that there is something visible from the train that may have some impact on future attractions. Is there any truth in this?

Something is definitely happening in the area, and though I don't usually believe anything I hear from my fellow employees, I have heard GCI mentioned several times, and what's going on back at Mean Streak was the topic of a conversation I was lucky enough to hear while sitting next to two "suits" in the cafe today. Of course, there were a lot of things talked about, mostly a few of us seasonals, Monty, and Bill were discussing rides at other parks, particularly SFGAdv. I will say this much in terms of future rides; I can pretty much promise you that you won't see an Intamin pre-fab woodie any time soon at CP or any other CF park.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
