There seems to be a real lack of appreciation for woodies. I just want to go on the record saying I LIKE the MS!

While me and my girl were there on the 17th and 18th, we noticed both days one or 2 maintenance men walking around under Mean Streak in red hard hats, at times getting really close to the track, standing towards the infield along the walkway rails as you come down drop after the mid-course brakes.

I for one like Mean Streak in the front seat. Nowhere else though. I wouldn't be sad to see it go, but I would love to see GCII or Gravity Group come in and give it a clean re-track. Literally scrap all the track bed and start fresh, leaving the bents. The ride has potential, it just needs good tracking.

Although it would be a costly project, including redesigning the tops of the bents in areas to get better transition and what not, the cost would far exceed tearing down the ride and buying a whole new one, but also wouldn't potentially bring in a load of new riders, either.

I am very dissapointed to hear the rumors of MS. The coaster itself is good. I still think its the cars and not the track. I wouldn't care if Mean Streak were to be destroyed though. It is DEFINATLY not my favorite coaster in the park but also not my least favorite. The coaster itself gives a great ride in the first 3 rows of the cars because of not only the view, but it is also very smooth in the area. The back of the car is a completly different expierence. It is painful and I still haven't got much airtime their either. For the next 2009/2010 coaster, I still think GCI is CP's best bet. I think GCI should create a coaster in the exact area of Mean Streak and not take up more room. I'm starting to hear very good reviews of the Evel Knievel coaster at SFSL and having GCI use the drop of Renegade and a similar layout to Evel Knievel, the coaster will be perfect.

Why is this an either/or proposition? What if you could build a coaster that wends it way in and out of Mean Streak's structure? That would be the uttermost of coolness. I'm sure if you paid some very smart engineers enough money they'd find a way to design it.

I still think Mean Steak shall be tore down :)

A coaster that winds within Mean Streak will be cool though. Maybe Premire could build it because we have enough Intamins, B&M would not like such a small footprint, but Premire always have some type of weird elements within the coaster....

I don't hate Mean streak enough to tear it down all the way, but please.........REMOVE THOSE DARN TRIM BREAKS ON THE FIRST HILL!! I think the ride would be alot more airtime filled with quicker turns then it has now with those breaks slowing down the first drop. My other firends like it and still ride it, though.

And......we will not joke about tearing down GEMINI EITHER.......

JuggaLotus's avatar

There is no airtime on the first half though. The first half was meant to be pure speed, with the second half being the airtime section. Of course, the second half is killed by the MCBR.

The trims on this ride are a necessity, although would be better enjoyed without them. They were installed because the ride was literally ripping itself apart. Poor designing and planning by Summers & Dinn, but this saves a lot on maintenance costs.

CP08's avatar

I HATE the Trim. Every time I crest the hill, I expect speed, but the car slows down because of the trim brakes and slows the rest of the ride down. That MCRB is very bad. I don't know why though.

I've been on a trimless ride, from the lift and mid-course. The ride is still boring and uninteresting. Nothing can help it.

Simply put, a wooden coaster does not have to be tall to be thrilling. Just ride Thunderhead at Dollywood, or the Lightning Racer or Wildcat at HersheyPark. All are under 110 feet or so and they all blow away Mean Streak. Personally, I find the Blue Streak a better coaster than Mean Streak. Take away the first hill on Mean Streak, and the initial turn after that, and the ride is a total bore. Zero airtime on a wooden coaster is not good. I barely stay in my seat on the three coasters I listed above at other parks.

For some reason, when I rode Lightning Racer, I did not enjoy any part of the ride. Am I the only one?
