Paisley,
I agree, trimless rides are awesome and so much smoother than when trimmed and even some air time. We got four trimless rides last fall on a HW Friday night with light rain and single train operation. That is the most times I have ever been on MS in one day. We had another this past spring when we headed straight to MS when light rain started. I like the layout of MS and wish that there was something that could be done to improve the ride.

I was talking to a couple while in line for MF last night, their first trip. Their only complaint was Mean Streak. They couldn't believe how rough it was. It turned out they rode in the back, didn't know the "trick" about leaning forward keeping your back off the back or sitting in the front section.
Seriously, when you virtually have to rope off the mid to back section of a coaster in order to not feel pain and have to ride it a certain way, that should speak greatly of the ride's dysfunction.

My biggest problem with the whole let's torch it mindset is that I worry it wouldn't be replaced with another wodden coaster. I still ride it and enjoy it but the occasional trimless ride shows what we're missing. With the trims it's not the same. I undersand tha faults. I just worry that if it did get replaced it would be with some smooth steel thing. As a fan of wooden coasters who doesn't get to travel much MeanStreak and BlueStreak are my only reasonable options that I know of since Geauga Lake closed. I don't want BlueStreak to be the sole wooden coaster in Northern Ohio.
I agree, Paisley, they would need to either redo Mean Streak's wooden tracks or build a new wooden coaster. I like Blue Streak and wooden coasters. I still think Blue Streak is a great ride. I'm not even sure I'd be a fan of the supposed baby smooth El Toro either but I haven't ridden it. I'd like to feel like I'm on a wooden coaster to some extent.
Darkrider68, I've been checking out Waldameer. I'd really like to go to Knoebel's, too, (bit of a drive for us). I'd like to go to either not just for the wooden coasters but the dark rides which I miss. I don't know if we'll do it next summer since we renewed our passes and time is always short. But those sound like great old fashioned parks. Thinking of going back to Kennywood again, too.

There's gotta be a way to utilize the existing track and only redo the trains to provide a smoother experience. Struts on each wheel, better seat padding, something.
I say this because I love the coaster and wouldn't want it to change (or be torn down, to hell with that). The front seat is a dream ride. The rear seat is hell.
Wow, darkrider68, I don't know how you packed all that in! I'll say, for me, if given the choice between redoing Mean Streak and giving Shoot the Rapids (while they're at it) a makeover ala Old Mill/Splash Mountain, I'd have to pick the Shoot the Rapids makeover and let Mean Streak rot some more. That's how much I miss dark rides at Cedar Point.
Scottyf, Mean Streak is an impressive structure to gaze upon, I'd think they'd have come up with something by now considering the complaints. I don't know if they've explored all options.
